elcome to the all-new Weddings and Honeymoons magazine. I say all-new because it’s my first issue as editor and we have a brand new look, too. I’m not new to weddings, nor am I new to wedding magazines, in fact I’ve been banging the wedding drum for almost 20 years. In that time I have been extremely privileged to share the stories of hundreds of weddings (including one of my own!), and this issue it’s the turn of my Features Editor Becci, who married Ben just before the pandemic interrupted everything. The couple’s day was filled with amazing details – we would expect nothing less from Becci – but also we tip our hats to her because she had to cope with force 9 gales, sending them inside for the ceremony from their preferred beach-side spot. I’m not sure I would have been so chilled if the weather had dampened my plans…

This issue I am thrilled that we are celebrating the beauty of Italy, from page 125. My personal love affair with Italy goes way back. My proposal was in Rome, one of the best ski holidays I have had was in the Dolomites, I have good friends in Parma and I learned to dive off the coast at Portofino. That’s not to mention when I was working with the British free-dive team at the world championships in Sardinia. I remember one time sitting in the piazza in Portofino, watching the uber glamorous fashionistas walk on by, surrounded by the beautiful pastel-coloured houses, bathed in the late afternoon sunset and thinking that I had really stolen a slice of la dolce vita. And finally, this issue’s cover features the beautiful Stephanie, whose wedding to Josh has only just taken place. Like Becci (above), Stephanie had obstacles to overcome, firstly Covid – which caused a postponement – and then the re-arranged date, which happened to be the same day as the finals of the Euros. The couple decided to show the final during the evening and even though England lost, they still had the day of their dreams. Her photographer Anna Fowler, who I have worked with for many years, said Stephanie wears Pronovias, shot by Anna Fowler that her wedding was one of the best she had ever @annafowlerweddings photographed… Needless to say, Stephanie makes the most beautiful cover star, and we can’t wait to feature her wedding in a future issue of Weddings and Honeymoons (we will let Anna finishing editing the photos first!).

Vintage 1940's Tea Party A 1940s inspired photoshoot full of the cutest details and best vintage wedding inspiration Katy Poole of The Hertfordshire Event planners has long had an interest in all things 1940s, and following her own themed wedding day, she found that styling this shoot, bringing together the best local suppliers, was an absolute dream. Wanting to put the message out that a traditional ceremony inside can spill out to something far more informal and relaxed outside, the high tea became the focus of the day, just like it was at many weddings in that era. This heavenly shoot was planned for summer 2020 but of course the pandemic had other ideas. The re-arranged shoot was brilliant at helping the suppliers to build up their confidence again as they, and the industry as a whole, comes out of lockdown.

mily and Joe celebrated their love in their home county of Kent. They picked Eastwell Manor for its awe-inspiring views and romantic English atmosphere. This was a picture-perfect backdrop for their weekendlong celebrations. WHERE DID YOU FIND YOUR DREAM DRESS?
I found my dress at The Pantiles Bride in Royal Tunbridge Wells, Kent. I had no idea of what I wanted until I started trying on different styles. I picked the dress that I felt the most beautiful in. My gown was the only one that I could imagine myself walking down the aisle with.
TELL US ABOUT YOUR LOOK. HOW DID YOU ACCESSORISE IT?
I chose a trumpet-style Pronovias dress with floral details. I added off-the-shoulder sleeves as my personal touch. I kept it simple and didn’t add lavish jewellery pieces, except for a pair of teardrop earrings. A destination wedding event certainly allows couples to show off a bit, to be very creative, and to leave their guests in awe! Here are a few ideas of things that will work well to create a wedding spectacular: BACHELOR OR BACHELORETTE PARTY
Before your all-important rehearsal dinner, you should think about hosting these events simultaneously. Here at Blame Her Ranch we have four separate locations where the two parties can be kept completely separate. We recommend a mechanical bull for the boys and a pyjama party for the girls. If you like, after two or three hours the two groups can come together and party for the rest of the night! THEMED WELCOME DINNER
A bit different from the traditional rehearsal dinner that is common at Stateside weddings, the welcome dinner is extended out to close family not in the bridal party, and to guests who are staying at the venue for the duration of the celebrations. This could be a more casual affair, or even themed. A rip-roaring 1920’s style event works well (especially now that we are in the 2020s!) and a BBQ or a food-truck arrangement gets guests mingling rather than tied to a seating plan. Long trestle tables and laid-back décor will set the scene further.

Breakfast shouldn’t be forgotten – it’s the most important meal of the day! Other ideas that have gone down well at Blame Her Ranch are: Family Reunion Night, a quiz where we find out who knows the couple best, late night s’mores with a campfire and ghost stories, a children’s pizza night – they could even design the ultimate pizza, or a piñata smash – with something wedding related or even the couple’s faces! If you’re using a wedding planner, they will of course, have some great ideas of their own. And your venue will have the ideas and experience based on what has worked before. Just make sure that your venue can accommodate your ideas and timescale. As well as adding to the reception decor, a table plan will help guests find their seat for the wedding breakfast and avoid any dithering, giving you more time to enjoy the delicious menu you have chosen. Firstly, check with your venue how many guests can be seated at each table, whether you will have trestle tables or round tables and where they would suggest you display your table plan. When you start thinking about where to seat guests, we’d recommend that you plan for everyone to be sat with at least one person they know for conversation to flow throughout the meal. Consider seating guests that are hard of hearing away from music systems, so that they can hear other guests at their table. Decide whether you want to seat children with their parents or at a designated children’s table and if you will group your tables into friends, family, colleagues or if you will mix guests. Mapping out the basics will help you when it comes to assigning seats. As soon as you have received your guests' RSVPs you can create the rough plan – there is no point in trying to create your seating plan before you have your RSVPs back, or you will end up re-doing it multiple times. Start by drawing out the table layout. Then write each guest's name on individual Post-It notes and arrange them around the tables you have drawn. Using sticky notes makes it easier to move guests around, meaning you don't have to keep starting again. Once you’ve nailed the tricky part and you know where everyone will be sitting, it’s time to get creative! From picture frames to flower pots with tags displayed in them and printed cotton cloths to sleek boards to display on easels, there are many ways to showcase your finished plan. If you are having the table plan made for you send the details to the supplier around five weeks before the wedding day to give them time to create it. If you are making the plan yourself you could start sooner – especially if the design is elaborate – and then add the names a couple of weeks before the wedding day. WH

Glowing skin is here for brides of all ages. Brides are ditching the nude lip and adding a glossy colour in pinks and corals, but that’s not to say that a red lip isn’t on trend. Natural lash extensions are big this year too. Adding a few cluster lashes to enhance the eyes is definitely the way to achieve that lovely wide-eyed look. Use a hydrating serum and moisturiser and wait a few minutes before applying your primer. You could add a glowing primer under your foundation, too. Always outline your lips with a matching lip pencil closest to your lip colour. Start at your Cupid’s bow, outline your whole lip and then colour in your lips with the pencil. Apply your lip colour and blot with a tissue, then apply a second coat of lip colour and set with a very fine coating of loose powder. Alternatively, use LipCote to seal the colour.

To achieve a Smoky bridal look that’s not too dark, choose three colours that complement each other – two matte and one satin shade. Apply an eyeshadow primer to neutralise your eyelid and press a skin-toned matte eyeshadow over the top to set it. Smooth out any creases and softly blend the eyeshadow, so you have a flat base to work on. Apply the darkest shadow colour to the outer corner and under your lower lashes. Apply the satin shade to just the lid, avoiding the outer corner darker colour, this colour is the colour you will see on your eyes. Add liner and mascara to finish the look.

For that extra va-va-voom on your wedding day, add some lashes to make your eyes really pop! Adding additional lashes can make a soft smoky eye look incredible and open up your eyes to make them look bigger. Lashes are also great if your own lashes are very short. Choose natural looking lashes, just to give volume and length. If you still want lashes to look like your own use individual clusters rather than strip lashes. When applying lashes wait 30 seconds for the glue to go tacky before sticking them on, this will ensure they stay put all day long.

How to create the perfect Created in the American southwest, but to be enjoyed round the world, we bring you the Blame Her Margarita!
Margarita
Before we begin, you should know that this margarita was created at Blame Her Ranch outside of Santa Fe, New Mexico many years ago! You will also have to accept the fact that the perfect Margarita requires a bit more attention and unique ingredients. However, with complexity, comes perfection! Here goes: INGREDIENTS
• Bamboo skewers • Crushed ice • Corkcicle cup. You can use any glass, but a corkcicle cup keeps the perfect maragarita cold for up to eight hours. At Blame Her Ranch we have our own Corkcicle • Shishito peppers • Cherry tomatoes • Olive oil spray • Sea salt • Worm salt. This is optional, of course, but keeps the tequila worm tradition alive • Margarita salt can be used as a replacement for worm salt • Mezcal (not tequila) to provide a smoky taste • Margarita mix. We use Santa Fe margarita mix but if you can’t find that, simply choose a high-quality lime juice-based mix • Grand Marnier • Sliced limes • Long decorative toothpicks or stirrers
This is the ‘BHR Shishito Margarita’. Every great wedding needs a signature cocktail and we think your guests will enjoy this special drink, especially given that the ingredients and complexity add to the mystique of your special day!
METHOD
Step 1: Grilling No other margarita we are aware of requires you to grill the condiments, but this is an essential first step that adds to the flavour and smokiness of this drink. Soak the bamboo skewers in water for 5-10 minutes (this prevents them from burning). Then build two separate skewers – one with Shishito peppers and the other with cherry tomatoes. Shishito peppers have enormous flavour but aren’t too hot or spicy – a substitute could be Anaheim Chili Peppers because Shishito peppers are hard to find in some parts of the world. After building the two skewers, spray them with olive oil and sprinkle a little sea salt on both. You are now ready to grill both skewers on your preheated BBQ until they show grill marks on both sides. Remove from grill and set aside. Step 2: Corkcicle Preparation Again, we prefer the Corkcicle cup, but any cup will do. Take the worm salt and pour it into a small dish. Cut the limes into four pieces. Take one lime slice and cut into the centre of it so it can be easily put on the rim of the Corkcicle cup. Slide the lime slice around the rim of the Corkcicle cup and remove the lime slice. Then take the Corkcicle cup, turn it upside down and dip the rim of the cup into the worm salt. If you don’t like the traditional worm salt accent, feel free to replace it with normal margarita salt. But you are giving up one of the unique and talked about ingredients to the perfect margarita. And, you’ll never taste the worm, I promise! Step 3: Mixing Add crushed ice all the way to the top of the Corkcicle cup. Then add a shot and a half (don’t wimp out here) of Mezcal. Then take your premium margarita mix and fill the remainder of the cup up to a quarter of an inch from the top. Finally, pour a splash of Grand Mariner on top for extra flavour. Step 4: Cocktail Garnishing This is the step that visually differentiates our margarita from all the rest. First, take one of the lime slices and set it on the rim of the cup, then take your grilled Shishito pepper and cherry tomatoes and skewer them onto your long toothpick or stirrer. It should be placed in this order: cherry tomato, Shishito pepper, cherry tomato. Set the garnished toothpick on the top of the Corkcicle cup. Explain to guests that the smoky smell and taste come from both the Mezcal and grilled condiments.

What you should ask the person who will bring your creative vision to life and make you feel like a true bride – the all-important florist
“I always tell my brides that they should blow the budget when it comes to flowers… More is more!” Anna King, photographer SO, WHAT FLOWERS WILL BE IN SEASON ON MY CHOSEN DATE? This is really important, to reduce costs and if you want to keep your wedding eco-friendly. Any flower is possible, whatever the time of year, but the cost of getting peonies to you in the winter, for example, will be high. Much better to use local flowers that are in season. HOW MANY WEDDINGS MIGHT YOU BE WORKING ON THAT DAY? Ideally it would only be one, but florists often work in teams (sometimes with other florists). It’s always good to know that the person you have been dealing with will be the actual person to do your flowers, but the bigger the outfit, the more likely that yours will be one of a number of weddings they are working on that day. HAVE YOU WORKED AT MY VENUE BEFORE? Top tip: You should always choose a florist that has worked at the venue before, and who comes highly recommended by the venue.

That way your florist will know what works where, and be able to maximise the opportunity that each nook and cranny at the venue presents. They will also know how to work with the wedding team at the venue and also what equipment lives there that can be put to use. I NEED SUGGESTIONS FOR COLOURS AND FLOWERS. CAN YOU HELP? If creativity isn’t really your strong point, ask a creative for help! Also professional florists know better than most which colours work together well, and what sorts of flowers come in those colours. Most people need quite a lot of input from the florist, if that helps. CAN YOU DO A MOCK UP OF MY BOUQUET? It’s always useful to check that your florist has a good grasp of your creative vision. A trial bouquet of flowers might cost a bit extra, but it will give you reassurance, and you will have lovely flowers for your home for a week!

WHAT TIME WILL YOU BRING MY BOUQUET? And will it actually be you bringing it? Is there a charge for this? Some brides say that they don’t feel like a bride until they have hold of their bouquet! HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE YOU TO STYLE THE FLOWERS AT THE VENUE? This might mean you have to ask for early access from the venue if you’re having an early’ish wedding. CAN I MOVE MY CEREMONY FLOWERS TO THE RECEPTION? This is a great budget-saving tip. Sometimes the florist will offer to come and move them for you, and even offer up some of their containers, vases or pedestals for you to borrow. These will probably need to be collected the next day, so make sure that is organised, too. CAN YOU WORK WITH MY CAKE MAKER TO ADD FLOWERS TO MY CAKE? Good professional florists will be absolutely fine with this, and will always carry extra flowers for things like this, and for table decoration, too. DO YOU HAVE OTHER TABLE DECORATIONS I CAN BORROW? Some florists will have a stash of brilliant décor items like candles, mirrors, wedding signs, table name holders, votives… You might be surprised – just ask! DO YOU CHARGE FOR BREAKAGES? Look, accidents happen. A vase might get chipped or a votive accidently smashed. It would be good to check this on your contract – and all small print, in fact! WH

hen it comes to bouquets, while goo looks are essential, the other senses are just as important. Scented roses have become a regular feature in bouquets because their natural, fine fragrance fills the air – powerful yet somehow subtle in its allure. Popular with the royals and with every top florist around the world, a sound knowledge of scented roses is a must when it comes to working on weddings. Alina Neacsa explains: A few years ago I discovered a large-scale rose farm that grows the most beautiful scented wedding roses – the best that have ever come across. These included some of the most famous international brands like English roses from David Austin and French roses from Meilland Jardin & Perfume.

Teenage Sweethearts A summer of romance sparked the beginning of this couple’s love story, who met at school and have been inseparable ever since. It was over a weekend in Cornwall, a place close to their hearts and where they’d shared their very first holiday, that Ben proposed: “He very dashingly dropped to one knee to ask me to spend the rest of my life with him. Without hesitation, I said yes!” smiles Becci. WEDDING WARDROBE It was a Sassi Holford style – the ‘Amelia’ design – that captured this bride’s heart. “I purchased it from their flagship store and Sassi even fitted it herself. I had imagined choosing a dress with lots of embroidery, but when I tried them on, they just didn’t suit me. The dress I chose had a subtly printed skirt, which I adored, and a beautiful satin bodice.” Equally stylish, groom Ben opted for a navy herringbone suit from Dobell and accessorised with a floral print bowtie from Le Colonel Moutarde. “When I saw Ben at the end of the aisle, he turned around and I could see how happy he looked. I couldn’t wait to be by his side and hold his hand,” Becci reminisces, who was joined by bridesmaids wearing sea green dresses from Dessy, with Sasha Pallari creating their big day beauty looks and Michael Gray styling their locks. BLOOMING BEAUTIFUL “We didn’t pick a colour scheme, but I knew I wanted a huge bouquet with lots of bright colours, and the rest stemmed from there. I designed our save the dates, invitations, thank you cards and order of the day, drawing and 00 74

painting each flower by hand before editing them ready for print,” explains the talented bride, who now heads up her own stationery business, ABCD Weddings. Sea glass table decorations paid homage to the couple’s breath-taking coastal location at Devon’s Tunnels Beaches, while floral arrangements overflowing with peonies, ranunculus, sweet peas and roses packed in charm and whimsy by the vase-load. Continuing the floral theme, Becci and Ben opted for real flower petal confetti from Shropshire Petals for the big cascade. “Our confetti moment was so fun,” Becci laughs. “It was so windy that we nearly all blew away, but somehow Amber our photographer still captured the perfect shot! Our live wedding painter, Stephanie Paints Things, also documented this moment so beautifully.” LET THERE BE CAKE Self-confessed cake fans, this couple went the extra mile with their wedding cake and opted for an entire dessert table, created by Edible Essence Luxury Fine Cakes and laden with a feast for the eyes as well as the stomach. FIRST DANCE “We chose Al Green’s ‘Let’s Stay Together’ for our first dance. We felt the words fitted and we’ve liked the song for years. When we told my mum our plans, she said it was one of her favourites too, and that sealed the deal for us. Then, at the end of the night we all danced to ‘Wonderwall’ by Oasis as the band played. It was the best feeling on the best day of my life with all the people I love,” smiles Becci. BEACHY BLISS Thanks to their dream beachfront wedding venue, the couple enjoyed a minimoon without even needing to hit the road, staying for three nights. Then it was flights, camera, action as the newlyweds swapped Cornwall for Kos, for a sun-kissed seven days in paradise. WH

After a romantic Christmas proposal in Bruges, the bride’s favourite city, it was Hertfordshire’s Micklefield Hall that stole the couple's hearts for the big day. “The only date they had left was Good Friday for 2019 – we’d been planning to wait another year, but my Dad persuaded us to go for it the year earlier, he was so excited. Now, looking back, we realise we owe the whole day to him, because if we had waited for 2020 as planned, we would have suffered the same disappointing fate as so many other couples that year,” explains Monica. FINDING THE ONE It was in White Lace and Butterflies boutique in Great Missenden that this bride found the one. “The dress I chose was the design the ladies picked out to suggest for me, so I owe a lot to them,” smiles the bride. “I loved my dress so much I have vowed to wear it every anniversary.” Monica opted for a Nicola Anne design with an illusion lace sweetheart neckline and dreamy three-quarter-length off-the-shoulder sleeves, while groom Mikey looked dapper in a navy suit from Country House Menswear.

A TOUCH OF MAGIC The couple personalised the celebrations with a Harry Potter theme. “We named each table after different characters and our table plan was based on the design of Marauder’s map.” Providing perfect party fuel, a crowd-pleasing menu of luxury pie and mash, followed by a moreish sticky toffee pudding, meant Mikey and Monica could enjoy their very favourite foods for their wedding breakfast. “In the evening, our caterers organised cheese burgers and fish and chips. It was impeccable and our guests raved about how tasty it was!” PARTY TIME After kicking off the festivities with their first dance to James Morrison’s ‘I Will Never Let You Go’ – a song Monica explains they had loved for 10 years, and so felt sure they’d love for 10 years more – a DJ kept the dance floor buzzing. “We danced a lot!” Monica and Mikey laugh. “The whole wedding party were on the dance floor right up to the last song.” Fortunately, the bride had organised personalised slippers for the bridal party so they could kick off their heels and embrace their party feet. “Don’t over plan the day and over-book evening entertainment,” Monica recommends. “We had a brilliant DJ but I had been worried we’d need more to keep people entertained. Actually, it meant we were all together on the dance floor having a great time together. As we all danced to Coldplay’s ‘Yellow’ for the final time, Mikey and I realised just how special and perfect the day was.” PICTURE THIS “Our photographer Sarah Legge was the absolute best,” the couple gush. “Neither of us feel entirely natural in front of the camera, but she made us feel brilliant. It felt like a friend was taking our photos, and as you can see, the results are second to none!” WH

Natural Beauty It’s fair to say Emily and Rob’s engagement was unique, but we’ll let the bride tell you why: “I decided to propose while we were running a half-marathon,” reveals Emily. “I picked one of our favourite spots to run – alongside a fishing pool that is shaped like a love heart – and I proposed with birthstone cufflinks for Rob.” THIRD TIME LUCKY This couple had initially planned a winter wedding – in fact, they’d planned one twice! But with two lockdowns hampering their plans, fate saw them finally tie the knot in May 2021. “It was gorgeous and we loved the history of our 12th-century venue. In fact, we’re both teachers and it felt serendipitous, because our ceremony room was actually used as a school room way back in the 16th century!” FINDING THE ONE It seems three might just be the magic number for this couple, because bride Emily also fell for the third dress she tried on. “I adored the shape, the classic 1950's style. It fitted me like a glove and even had pockets, which I loved! Gemma at Stitched Up Warwickshire adding a feature bow to the back of the dress for me, as well as a blue ribbon underneath for my something blue,” Emily smiles.

THE CEREMONY “We could only have 30 people present at the time because of Covid regulations, but that meant the room was full of love,” the couple reminisce. “My dad gave me away as a string quartet rendition of ‘You’re My Best Friend’ played, and both our mums gave readings and it all just felt so right, so relaxed, so happy.”
FOOD OF LOVE Two courses of mouth-watering buffet dishes treated guests at Rob and Emily’s reception. “Our caterers, NICuisine, were phenomenal,” they gush. “So many people commented on the food, NICuisine attended to every detail and went above and beyond to cater to all kinds of dietary requirements.” PICTURE THIS “The best decision we made was to splash out on our brilliant photographer. Having such gorgeous images to look back on is so worthwhile, and loved ones who couldn’t be at the wedding with us mentioned how the photos made them feel like they’d experienced it too in a way, because there are so many candid shots. Our photographers had the most fantastic energy, it really felt like friends joining us!” THE HONEYMOON Emily and Rob had a sun-kissed honeymoon in Cornwall to look forward to after their intimate wedding. “We couldn’t wait to spend some time by the seaside,” they grin. Love in London POPPING THE QUESTION Kaori and Harry truly were on cloud nine after their engagement, because this groom asked his bride to marry him on the 102nd floor of The Ritz in Hong Kong! “I was so surprised (even though I really wanted it to happen!) that I forgot to say yes,” laughs Kaori. “But of course I did eventually!” IT’S A DATE Like so many couples with 2020 celebrations on the cards, this couple’s original wedding date in March 2020 came and went, and they finally tied the knot the following May. “It gave us something to look forward to before the summer,” they smile. AISLE STYLE “I found 'the one' months before our original wedding date,” the bride smiles, “but little did I know that our winter wedding date would move to the spring! Luckily it was still a bit chilly in May so the dress was perfect for it.” A mid-length lace design with full-length sleeves and lace bodice detailing stole this bride’s heart. “Because it was an intimate wedding, Harry and I decided to get ready at home, but in different rooms, then surprise each other just before getting into our black cab to the ceremony.”

Love in the Lakes Farms and weddings may not often feature together in the same sentence, but Zara and Daniel aren’t afraid of throwing convention to the wind, as Zara explains: “We always told our children that we like to do things back to front. Waiting to get married after we had had our four children meant we could have our children there, we could celebrate as a family and team.” Their family farm set the scene for their dream wedding with a little bit of help from uber-hip Atlas Domes and a whole lot of bohemian flair. AISLE STYLE The bride glowed in a Rue de Seine dress, purchased from Jean Jackson Couture. Armfuls of ethereal lace framed Zara perfectly, with romantic keyhole back detailing and whimsical drape sleeves. Being a stylist herself, the bride did her own hair, with makeup artist Amy George stepping in to create the beauty looks. SENTIMENTAL CEREMONY With a family friend officiating, the bride’s brother giving a reading and their children penning a poem for the occasion, this couple’s ceremony overflowed with heartfelt emotion. Zara and her bridesmaids danced down the aisle to Fleetwood Mac’s ‘The Chain’, before the bride and groom said their “I do”s.

HOMESPUN HAPPINESS Staying true to their family roots, Zara and Daniel embraced a hands-on approach to crafting their ideal laid-back wedding. “We wanted our wedding to be colourful, wild and unstructured, to fit in with our surroundings,” Zara smiles. To create the look, the couple and their daughter created macrame decorations and pom-pom bunting, with their daughter even mastering the art of calligraphy for their on-the-day place settings and stationery. Garden-grown blooms and stems foraged from hedgerows filled vases, with family and friends coming together to arrange them the day before the big one.

Dance with your dogs, chill out with your cats or hang out with your horse. Here's how Your dog wearing a flower crown, your cat acting as ring bearer, your tortoise setting the pace down the aisle… There are heaps of ways to get your favourite nonhumans involved at your wedding, and quite right – they are family, too. I worked with colour schemes to complement nature, and the backdrop of the house to create that painting-like wedding style. ome might say that Greece, and specifically the Greek islands, is the ultimate honeymoon destination. There is no need to settle for one island, but if you do, we’d like to recommend Rhodes as a fail-safe island that is practically designed for romance. We are talking jaw-dropping scenery, all-year round sun that sinks into your bones, mouth-watering menus designed to have you savouring every last forkful and plenty of activities to keep your body going while your mind relaxes. This is Rhodes, which has long been the haunt of deserted travellers, for it’s eclectic, heady mix of culture, adventure and gastronomy. The beauty of Rhodes is that you can do as much or as little as you please. Sensationally romantic, yet lovingly down-to-earth, Rhodes offers spectacular scenery, ancient towns, stunning properties and miles and miles of deserted coves and coastline. Lindos is a picturesque village – an acropolis – that comes straight from a picture postcard. Once the home of many a writer, artists and aged rock musician, Lindos is the sort of place that it’s cool to be in, but not for appearance’s sake. The village’s elaborate villas boast black and white-pebble mosaic courtyards, warrens of rooms, steps and roof terraces, of which ae bathed in the sun’s rays at various points of the day. Lindos has changed little today from yesteryear, when its regular visitors would invariably end up returning or even staying, such is its allure.
We recommend a visit to Tsambika – a tiny cliff-top church, which offers up far-reaching, awe-inspiring views of Rhodes’ south-west coast. Actor Anthony Quinn loved Greece so much that he bought a bit of it, specifically this isolated bay in Rhodes – Anthony Quinn Bay. The azure water, peppered with yachts, attracts visitors for the photographic opportunities and tends to be family-free – so potentially more romantic than some. Kamiros, the ancient city, is well worth a visit – it lies on the north-western shore of Rhodes. Rhodes is blessed with beautiful treasures like this: ancient monuments, awe-inspiring architecture and some of the most visited acropolis in the whole of Greece. Just beyond the village of Eleoussa, hidden in the verdant, mountainous interior of the island is nestled Agios Nikolaos Foundoukli - a charming little chapel, Byzantine by build, dating back to the 15th century. Perched high on the hillside, it’s well worth a visit. The west coast of Rhodes offers up hiking and adventure. It’s relatively untouched and the scenery – especially the seascape – is a sight to behold.
The Old Town is well worth exploring on foot. Steep cobbled lanes, boutique cafés, sights to see and history to soak up. There are beautiful gardens, too, the haven of cumquat and orange, which are sweet-smelling – in fact the air is filled with a treat for your senses in Rhodes. Cypress and myrtle trees surround the quaint little building, chapels… the Old Town delights from every angle.
To drink… Forget ouzo for a minute, you can’t go far wrong with a bottle of Mandilari, a rich and deep, tannin-heavy red, which is produced using the indigenous local grape Mandilaria, which tastes of sour cherry and blackcurrant. You won’t find these wines much outside of Greece, so pick up a couple of bottles to take home as gifts to your connoisseur peers. The vineyards are scattered over the lower, south-facing sloped of Rhodes’ highest mountain, Mount Attavyros.
Petaloudes – valley of the butterflies – is probably Rhodes’ most popular tourist attraction. There stands the Zitia tree, rarely seen anywhere in the world, which hosts millions of butterflies that hang peacefully along the paths, as streams and rolling rivers flow along – butterflies always head for humidity and this spot offers the perfect environment for these awesome soft-winged creatures.
Finally… what lies beneath? We recommend seeing what Rhodes looks like underwater, with some of the best scuba diving in the world. Head for Kallithea Springs (worth a visit alone) with its pebble-stones mosaic pathways and white-domed buildings. The small sandy beach is popular with discerning locals with its café and luxury loungers. Here you will find scuba and snorkelling so that you can see Rhodes in its full glory. WH

Simply Beautiful by Anna Nikola Anna Nikola is an international makeup artist who divides her time between Rhodes in Greece and the Hampshire and Wiltshire in the UK, but has worked on weddings all around the world. Here she provides her top three tips for destination wedding makeup: Whether you’re the bride or a guest at a hot wedding, you will want to adapt your makeup to cope with the heat and humidity. Anna says that you should choose a makeup artist who has experience in different environments and climates. She says:
1. DO prep well, including using a primer for oil complexions, even if yours isn’t oily. 2. DO invest in a decent blotting powder (avoiding creams as you go) and go for products with a matte finish. 3. DON’T go easy with your makeup, but don’t trowel it on either. Gradually build up the layers, focussing on different areas as you go. 4. DON’T use your fingers – in hot weather brushes work much better. 5. DO use blotting paper, which will soak up any excess oil. 6. DON’T rub! If you do sweat or cry, dab down on the moisture, never rub.

I have always worked in tourism as my family has owned the Bonadies Hotel in Ravello since 1880. I started planning weddings in 1995. Initially, I did it just to help family and friends with their events. I enjoyed it so much that I decided to continue and after a while, I opened my agency Art & Culture Enterprise Corporation. The wedding day is, for the majority of the people, the most important day of their lives. Choosing the location is surely one of the most exciting moments during the organisation of a wedding, especially in Italy. Tuscany, with its landscapes that seem to come directly from a fairy tale, offers a wide variety of places for those who wish swearing each other eternal love. Getting married in Tuscany means being able to choose between take advantage of one of the many splendid Tuscan villas for wedding venues and ceremonies, get the chance to marry in the presence of splendid works of famous art or hidden jewels of architecture unknown to most. HOW ARE YOU FACING THE RETURN OF WEDDINGS IN ITALY? WHAT SAFETY MEASURES DO YOU HAVE IN PLACE? Since prime Minister Mario Draghi’s office has declared that weddings can begin in Italy on June 15–with no guest limits, I know that couples are now eager for their ceremony to take place in this fascinating country. Being the optimistic person that I am, I think that many of the international restrictions are going to end in the next two or three months. Also, the vaccination campaign in Italy is moving quickly and the situation is getting better each day. Still, preventative measure are a must in order to enjoy the event safely: there are no limitations on the number of diners at the table, but the distance of one meter must always be guaranteed, guests must have a green certificate and the stuff has to wear a mask all the time, includind the hair and makeup team. Masks and small sanitizers are being offered in baskets for guests to take upon arrival to the ceremony and we also offer a “program packet” instead of distributing programs: the packets are individualized so that no one has to share and it includes the guest’s name, ceremony program, table number, a bar menu, mask and a hand wipe.
WHICH IS YOUR WEDDING PLANNING INSPIRATION? For me, inspiration can come from absolutely anywhere. I subscribe to lots of different wedding blogs that keep me updated with new trends and I attend wedding fairs occasionally in order to come back with new contacts and twists on a certain theme. Also, I visit as many new places as I can to take inspiration for their colour schemes and the way that they style things. But most of the time I take inspiration from a guest’s perspective: I use it to be creative in a way that is centred around everyone having a good time, not just focusing solely on a theme. TELL US ABOUT THE BIGGEST EVENT YOU HAVE BEEN IN CHARGE OF I met my dear friend Enza when she was 19, and for a while we worked together. From the moment we met, we became great friends. Almost 20 years later, when Enza and her fiancé Mirko asked me to help them with planning and styling their wedding, I was really excited, even though I was so scared of making mistakes because I hadn't got much experience yet. The following months were so intense in the preparation of the big day but, thanks to the help of Carlotta from the beautiful location of Villa Chiatina, it turned out to be a great success. From my small contribution was born the desire to do a course in wedding planning, which then combined with my love of Tuscany.

Island Romance Victoria and Luca picked the
Santorini
WHERE DID YOU HONEYMOON? We honeymooned in Santorini, Greece straight after our wedding in Italy. We stayed there for 6 nights during the first week of September.

WHERE DID YOU STAY? We stayed at the Pegasus Suites in Imerovigli. Although Oia is the most famous village in Santorini, with its magnificent sunsets, we chose to stay in Imerovigli, a slightly smaller and less busy village just 10 mins drive from Oia. Firstly, in Imerovigli, you can enjoy a much more calm and relaxed atmosphere than busy Oia, which can become extremely crowded during August. It’s also a village that boasts some of the best boutique hotels on the island and has equally as spectacular sunsets as Oia, minus the crowds! Lastly, Imerovigli has some fantastic bars and restaurants. This combination of stylish accommodation, relaxed atmosphere and great culinary options was what drew us to Imerovigli following our busy wedding week! WHAT DID YOU GET UP TO? One of the main reasons I love Santorini, aside from its breathtaking beauty, is how many things you can do on the island. From wine-tasting in one of its many wineries, to enjoying a relaxing afternoon on a catamaran tour of the island, this island boasts both culture and luxury - the ideal mix for any honeymoon! We took a sunset boat tour around the island which involved swimming in the island’s hot springs, a delicious home-cooked Greek lunch and finally a sail into the Santorini sunset. We also spent a day by the beach on the other side of the island, swimming in crystal clear waters with black volcanic sand. For those who enjoy hiking, you can take a two-hour walk from Oia to Fira or spend the day discovering some of its many inland towns dotted with blue-domed churches and idyllic cobbled streets.

WHAT DID YOU EAT? We tried to mix up both traditional and fine-dining Greek meals as Santorini is home to some of the best gourmet restaurants in Greece. Our favourite fine-dining meal had to be at the Athenian House, located in Imerovigli. We were enamoured with the overall atmosphere, the food and the service. Going down a more traditional route, friends had recommended the restaurant “Ta Postaliou tou Agiou” located in the middle of the island - the food is completely traditional and prices are much lower than you’ll pay anywhere on the Caldera. We absolutely loved it and for those looking for a real taste of Greece that is where I’d suggest going.
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THIS LOCATION FOR YOUR HONEYMOON? I’m half-Greek, my husband is Italian and our wedding was in Italy, so we chose to have our honeymoon in Greece to enjoy the best of both of our countries during our nuptials! Of course, the first place that came to mind for a honeymoon in Greece was Santorini and my husband had never visited the island so it was the perfect option. In my opinion, the island offers the perfect balance of romance, luxury and traditional Greek island vibes, which is exactly what we wanted after our wedding celebrations! In addition, if you don’t wish to spend an entire week in Santorini there are plenty of islands nearby that you can visit such as Milos, Folegandros and of course famous, Mykonos. A FEW SPECIAL MOMENTS OF THE TRIP? One of my favourite moments was booking a sunset photoshoot with my friend and fellow photographer Maxeen Kim. She kindly flew in from one of the other Greek islands she is based in and captured us a set of magical images at sunset. Booking a honeymoon photo shoot session is a wonderful way to remember this special holiday together and I’m so glad we did it! Additionally, it had to be our first night sundowner at Cavo Tagoo. Watching the sunset from here is like nowhere else you’ve ever experienced - it’s completely ethereal and somewhere I would recommend all honeymooners book whilst in Santorini. We stayed for dinner but it’s also an ideal spot for a sunset drink before you head out for your evening meal!
