ASHLYN QUINTANAModel + Dancer

INDULGE: Ashlyn, how are you? Thank you so much for taking time out of your day. Tell us how you got started in modeling.

ASHLYN QUINTANA: I am doing great, thank you for asking! Modeling has always been a field of interest for me, I grew up watching America’s Next Top Model. Walking the runways and posing for photoshoots have consistently been a dream of mine since I was young. I bought my first camera at 18 and started posting my photos to Tumblr around that same time; moving to Instagram a couple years later. I moved to Albuquerque in 2019 to continue my education and began modeling for professional photographers the same year. I had several friends that were active in the local modeling scene and I began following the photographers they had worked with. One of these photographers was Glenn Sena (@Gcoco_Visuals on Instagram). He had posted to his story that he was offering collaboration shoots with new models that weekend. I responded to the story and was able to set up my very first photoshoot. On the day of the shoot, I met Glenn and experienced model Treana (@serpentine_1 on Instagram) who helped me pose and taught me some important tips I use to this day. Making that first professional connection opened the door for many others.

INDULGE: Our lives revolve so much around emotion, whether it’s in work or family life. If you were forced to choose only one, which emotion, more than any other, drives you to stay involved in such a competitive industry? Is it joy, anger, desire, passion or pride and why?

ASHLYN QUINTANA: I felt instantly at home in front of the camera. I left my first photoshoot with confidence I did not know I possessed happier than I knew was possible. Modeling helped me find my people, the Albuquerque modeling scene is a family, I have never seen other models as my competition. We support one another, sharing tips, accessories and wardrobes when needed. I will always celebrate the wins of other models, just as my friends celebrate mine. Another individual’s wins do not take away from my own, the only competition I am interested in is the one with past versions of myself, working to steadily improve my craft one day at a time. The emotion that consistently pushes me forward in following my dreams is the contentment I feel when I am behind the camera. I don’t model because I have to, I do it because the studio is my happy place. Being under lights while cameras click away is peaceful, modeling consistently brings me joy. There is so much extremely detailed work that goes into every good photo and I am proud to be part of this community of creatives.

INDULGE: I’m sure you have had many photoshoots. Please share 1 or 2 of your favorite shoots with us.

ASHLYN QUINTANA: I have so many favorites honestly but if I had to choose, my favorite would probably have to be any of the shoots I have done with Pete Gonzales (@pgp_fitfoto on Instagram). I was featured in his Angel series last year, and it was such an honor being included in a series with so many other stunning models. Pete puts so much work into the sets he creates in studio, he has spent years perfecting his craft and is always a genuine joy to shoot with.

Which ingredient do you think makes you special and unique as a model in an industry overflowing with new faces and ideas?

The main quality or ingredient I feel I possess that helps me stand out as a model is my ability to adapt quickly

to new situations. I pride myself on being able to learn new skills quickly and have found this competency to be quite valuable in the modeling trade. During many of the photo shoots I have done there is usually little time to prepare; so I learn as I go. I am confident in jumping into new scenarios, taking criticism, and making positive changes quickly and professionally.

INDULGE: Which people or books have had the most influence on you and why?

ASHLYN QUINTANA: My grandmother has always been a big inspiration for me, she taught me to sew as a child which fueled my interests in fashion. The Weetzie Bat book series by Francesca Lia Block also had a huge influence on me growing up, it showed me how beautiful life can be when you see the magic in the everyday and taught me to stay true to myself and wear the clothes I want!

INDULGE: In your opinion, what would you say is the #1 key to success?

ASHLYN QUINTANA: Personally, I believe that the best thing you can do to get closer to reaching your goals is showing up everyday, trying your best and learning from your mistakes. Failures are essential for learning anything, mastery only comes after learning what NOT to do. Improvement is always possible in areas where we are willing to allow ourselves the space needed to learn and grow, mistakes in all.

INDULGE: Talk about the biggest failure you’ve had. What did you learn from it?

ASHLYN QUINTANA: I have tried and failed at anything I consider myself good at now. I have few regrets though, as there is a lesson in every mistake. I suppose the biggest failure in my life came in early adulthood after my first big breakup, I began doubting myself and stopped doing things that made me happy. I was in a dark place but that experience showed me my own resilience and taught me that my value was not tied to who loved me. I did a lot of personal work and came out much stronger for it.

INDULGE: A little off subject, but maybe not.. I feel that music can often play a big role in our lives. What 5 albums or artists have made you who you are today?

ASHLYN QUINTANA: My music taste has shifted a lot over my life, but I would say the most influential musical artists to me would probably be BTS, Sunmi, Grimes, Melanie Martinez and Rosalia. I have always loved music from around the world, my liked playlist is full of Y2K K-Pop, old French music, Reggaeton, Russian dance, indie Vietnamese rock, angsty emo, Portuguese alternative, Netherland’s Rap and everything in between. What I listen to just depends on the current vibe.

INDULGE: What advice can you give other individuals who want to follow in your footsteps?

ASHLYN QUINTANA: Be brave and put yourself out there! Reach out to other local models and photographers. Interact with the models/photographers you like on social media, use hashtags in your posts and use the (@) symbol for modeling agencies and magazines. Do your research before meeting new people. Always bring a safe person to your first shoot with someone new and discuss boundaries and expectations prior to the shoot date. Practice poses in the days leading up to your shoot and believe in yourself, confidence is always attractive!

INDULGE: What does a typical day in your week look like?

ASHLYN QUINTANA: I consider myself to be rather spontaneous, so every day really is different! Some days you will find me stretching and practicing new tricks on the pole. Other days are consumed by creating art of some kind, whether that be collage, paint, digital drawing, or staging my own photo shoots. I love going out with friends, shopping, going to events. Every day is an adventure and gift, my goal is to make new experiences each day and learn about myself and the world. Life is magical and I am grateful.

INDULGE: How can fans-to-be follow your career? Please share your social media platforms.

ASHLYN QUINTANA: Currently I am only active on Instagram. My only accounts are @ashlynthefairy and @msbabysnow please feel free to shoot me a message on either account for any business or modeling related inquiries.

INDULGE: Again, thank you for sitting down with us. Is there anything else you’d like to share with us?

ASHLYN QUINTANA: Thank you for having me, Its always a pleasure!
