Hawks served summons on 5 money laundering suspects in Mpumalanga, the Free State and Northern Cape

DOUGLAS: The Hawks served summonses on 5 money laundering suspects in Mpumalanga, the Free State and Northern Cape. Nine individuals are anticipated to appear in a Northern Cape court quickly in reference to a R5 million money laundering case. Hawks spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Philani Nkwalase mentioned 5 individuals and a business had been issued with summonses recently, following the arrest of 4 individuals in November 2020. He mentioned that the 5 further suspects, aged between 32 and 59, in addition to a juristic individual (entity), are anticipated to appear at Kimberley Specialised Commercial Crimes Court dealing with prices of money laundering following their arrests recently. The Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation crew served summonses on the suspects from Mpumalanga, the Free State and the

Northern Cape. The group, from Griekwaland-Wes Koöperatief Beperk (GWK), allegedly colluded with a worker of AG Equipment Direct LLC (AG) to inflate the costs of quotes for tools between 2014 and 2016. “Investigation by the Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation crew established that the suspects defrauded GWK of an estimated R5 million, which was allegedly shared among the suspects,” Nkwalase mentioned. Johannes Lodewykus Kruger, 60; Rudolph Kemp, 47; George Wheeler, 60; and Johannes van Heerden, 51, had been arrested in November. They have made a number of appearances in the Douglas Magistrate’s Court in the Northern Cape on prices of corruption, fraud and money laundering. Their 5 coaccused are anticipated make a court appearance on 22 July 2021 based on money laundering charges.

Northern Cape Health MEC, Mr Maruping Lekwene and acting HOD, Mr Riaan Strydom, recently engaged with the Pixley Ka Seme district health management team for the update on COVID-19 DISTRICT: Northern Cape Health MEC, Mr Maruping Lekwene and acting HOD, Mr Riaan Strydom, recently conducted a support visit to engage with the Pixley Ka Seme district health management team for the update on COVID-19 epidemiology and the vaccine rollout. In terms of weekly incidence variations, (from a period - week 24 & 25), out of 8 sub-districts in Pixley Ka Seme; Six registered increase in the weekly incidence with Siyancuma local municipality and emthanjeni recording the highest number of cases, while Ubuntu local municipality registering the

highest increase. In spite of the increase in cases, the MEC commended the team for their hard work and dedication in the management of COVID-19 cases. The MEC strongly calls upon on all members of the community to heed to the clarion call on wearing of masks, sanitizing hands and maintaining physical distancing at all times to lower the rate of COVID-19 transmission. Since the start of the COVID-19 vaccination roll-out programme, in the Pixley Ka Seme District 672 health workers have been vaccinated in Phase 1, and 2718 people over 60s as well as 571 educators have

also been vaccinated as part of Phase 2. The District has 8 active vaccination sites, complimented by the outreach teams. The MEC strongly urges all people currently eligible to be vaccinated (health care workers, people 60 years and over, and those working in the basic education sector) to present themselves for vaccination. The evidence across the world shows that full vaccination reduces the chance of becoming infected with Covid-19, and if you do get infected, the chance of becoming severely ill is dramatically reduced or even eliminated.

Forging ahead with municipal polls isn't ideal; health department tells IEC's inquiry NATIONAL: The health department has expressed concern about holding the local government elections, scheduled to take place in October, during the Covid-19 pandemic. Recently, the department said the country may not have reached desired herd immunity levels by then as a result of the "slower than hoped for" rate of vaccination. The department's DirectorGeneral Dr Sandile Buthelezi made submissions to the Electoral Commission of South Africa's (IEC) Moseneke inquiry on the possibility of holding free and fair elections during the pandemic. Explaining his presentation to the inquiry, Buthelezi said: "The country is currently experiencing a high number of Covid-19 cases, with high community

transmission rates. The holding of elections could put members of the public at risk of contracting Covid-19 during one of the various activities such as physical voter registration, the voting process itself, where large numbers gather at polling stations and [form] queues to complete their ballots, and large political gatherings, especially in venues that are difficult to manage or limit (such as sports stadia)." On 30 June, the Electoral Court postponed by-elections that were due to be held in eight wards this week. The IEC requested a postponement for the by-elections in wards in the Northern Cape, Eastern Cape, Western Cape and KwaZulu-Natal. This was due to an increase in the Covid-19 infection rate.

IEC: We don't yet know if upcoming local elections will be free and fair The IEC made the submission at the inquiry into ensuring free and fair local government elections during COVID-19. The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) on Monday said it had not yet made a decision on whether the local government elections would be free and fair. The IEC made the submission at the inquiry into ensuring free and fair local government elections during COVID-19. The inquiry, headed by former Deputy Chief Justice Dikgang Moseneke, kicked off on Monday in Johannesburg and will this week hear arguments for and against the postponement of the October local polls. IEC chief electoral officer Sy Mamabolo made the first oral submission as the inquiry kicked off. He said the inquiry was established after concerns about the elections were raised by political parties. “Concerns have been expressed by some parties that the elections this year may not be free and fair given the impact of COVID-19 as well as the measures government has undertaken to curb the spread of the pandemic.” As far as the fairness of the elections was concerned, Mamabolo said the jury was still out. “No such decision has been reached at this point on the side of the commission. We are eagerly awaiting the final report.”

Hoe vier jy jou feesmaal? My vraag was natuurlik eerste waaroor moet ek skryf? Enige iets is die antwoord. Sommer net jou waarnemings en ondervindings. Ek herkou aan die gedagte. Dae sluimer verby en my kop voel leeg! Goed wat hier rond gebeur is so allerdaags. Dit laat my dink aan die gesegde: “Some men die and have never lived!” As groei plaasvind! Nou wonder ek. Hoe vier jy jou feesmaal? - Hannetjie Brooks

Heuningdruppels “Waarom is julle so verskrik en waarom kom daar twyfel in julle harte?” (Matt. 11:28) As Jesus vandag langs jou kom staan en vra: “Waarom kom daar twyfel in jou hart?”, hoop ek jy sal die twyfel kan uitdoof en met geloof en vertroue sê: “Die Here is my helper, ek ken geen vrees nie.” (Heb. 13:6) ~ Wilna Botha

What is Epilepsy? Epilepsy is a chronic disorder, the hallmark of which is recurrent, unprovoked seizures. Many people with epilepsy have more than one type of seizure and may have other symptoms of neurological problems as well. Sometimes EEG testing, clinical history, family history and outlook are similar among a group of people with epilepsy. In these situations, their condition can be defined as a specific epilepsy syndrome. The human brain is the source of human epilepsy. Although the symptoms of a seizure may affect any

part of the body, the electrical events that produce the symptoms occur in the brain. The location of that event, how it spreads and how much of the brain is affected, and how long it lasts all have profound effects. These factors determine the character of a seizure and its impact on the individual. Having seizures and epilepsy also can also affect one's safety, relationships, work, driving and so much more. How epilepsy is perceived or how people are treated (stigma) often is a bigger problem than the seizures. A person is

diagnosed with epilepsy if they have one or more seizures that were not caused by some known and reversible medical condition like alcohol withdrawal or extremely low blood sugar. The seizures in epilepsy may be related to a brain injury or a family tendency, but often the cause is completely unknown. The word "epilepsy" does not indicate anything about the cause of the person's seizures or their severity. BETWEEN 4 AND 10 OUT OF 1,000: Number of people on earth who live with active seizures at any one time.

Although the guidelines do not constitute binding law, the commission was clear that they reflect the policy position of the commission regarding what would be considered anticompetitive in the industry going forward, said Bowmans. “The commission also noted that it is interested to see how the industry will implement the guidelines in everyday practice and that it will be conducting periodic assessments to monitor compliance with the guidelines. How the application of the Guidelines will unfold is – of course – not certain. Industry players may need to adopt purposive interpretations in certain instances where compliance is commercially impractical, Bowmans said. “To this end, it is not implausible that the guidelines may evolve over time based on experience and application.
