Burns Pet Nutrition is a pet food brand that makes a difference. We’ve been at the forefront of the healthy pet food market since the company was founded by veterinary surgeon John Burns in 1993. And since our humble beginnings, we’ve won numerous awards, sold over 2 billion bowls of healthy and wholesome pet food to date and have continued to support shelters, charities and community projects across the UK by donating 25% of our profits every year. Three decades of getting it right Some things never seem to change, but why should they? Especially if you’re a pioneering company like Burns Pet Nutrition. The company was founded in 1993 by veterinary surgeon and philanthropic Scotsman John Burns. He saw that some of the most common ailments in our pets could be solved simply by better nutrition, which is why he brought healthy, high-quality and hypoallergenic pet food to market. Using just vitamin E and rosemary oil, John was able to preserve Burns food naturally, creating one of the first chemical-free pet food brands and setting the industry standard for others to follow. Not content with changing the world one bowl at a time, John decided to set up a charity that would use a staggering 25% of all profits from the sale of his healthy pet food for good causes. Fast forward to today, Burns hasn’t changed much. We still support as many shelters, charities, and community projects as we can; still use the same recipe to create the award-winning, healthy food that pets love; and at over 70 years old, John Burns himself is still very much the captain of the ship, but now he’s joined by his family, and a group of dedicated and passionate pet lovers who share the same values that made the company possible all those years ago. For John, good health and sustainability has always been important, he just had to wait for the rest of the world to catch up.

These days, Burns supports over 20 rescue centres and shelters, mountain search and rescue teams, dog trainers, sanctuaries and we even have an in-house charity, The John Burns Foundation. The John Burns Foundation has multiple programs; including a reading for dogs scheme that helps children become more confident through reading to volunteer dogs; Burns in the Community, which helps people at risk from social isolation by bringing them to activities such as coffee mornings, dementia groups or lunch clubs, and the Better Tomorrow program, aiming to change the lives of children who are at risk of social isolation by bringing them together and giving them valuable skills for the future.
