[ \īdi l\ adj. — Perfect; most suitable; an ultimate object or aim of endeavor. ]

Are you looking for a larger university that offers hundreds of academic programs and a wealth of activities, located in a vibrant city with a diverse population? Then Bradley University is the ideal place for you. Or maybe you see yourself at a school where classes are small, people are friendly, the campus is easy to get around and professors know your name. Then Bradley is the ideal place for you, too.

When you choose Bradley University, you don’t have to choose between the activities and resources of a larger university and the personal attention and exceptional learning experiences of a smaller college. Our size — nearly 6,000 students — gives you the best of both worlds. We’re known for our high standards, exceptional academics and access to an outstanding faculty. And we leverage relationships with top organizations and industries to provide unlimited handson learning opportunities. In fact, we don't just offer these experiences, we guarantee them. Every student will graduate with at least two mentored, real-world experiences documented on their transcript. This guarantee makes Bradley the ideal choice to prepare you for immediate and substantial success — in your career and in life.

[ \s (r)prīziŋ\ adj. — Causing wonder or astonishment; something unexpected. ]

We’re confident that Bradley will deliver everything you expect from a university. But it’s the things you may not expect that make Bradley an ideal choice. We follow a proven, hands-on approach to teaching, learning and development. All classes are taught by talented and dedicated faculty, some of whom hold patents, earn Emmys, write symphonies and run businesses. Our extensive partnerships and relationships connect students to opportunities locally, nationally and around the world. And we’re committed to being affordable and making it possible for you to access a remarkable education. While some of these things may be surprising to you, they’re not surprising to those who know us. Publications like U.S.News ranks us the top regional university in Illinois, and The Wall Street Journal recognizes Bradley as among the top 25 private universities in the country for student engagement.

Our location in the heart of a vibrant city also sets Bradley apart. Peoria is a major metropolitan area of 350,000 people located halfway between Chicago and St. Louis. It’s large enough to provide a wide range of recreational, cultural and professional activities yet small enough to maintain a shared community spirit. Bradley has much in common with our home: a diverse population, world-class research facilities, outstanding fine arts and entertainment, and a great sense of community.

Bradley’s residential campus is located in a historic neighborhood just one mile from downtown, where the business district and riverfront have been revitalized with art galleries and restaurants. Peoria is home to a number of Caterpillar Inc. facilities and innovative technology companies, as well as three hospitals, including the largest medical center in downstate Illinois.

What will your Bradley University experience look like? Whatever you want it to. As a mid-sized university, we can personalize your college experience, providing the attention and guidance you need to achieve your goals. Classes are small enough that your professors will know your name. You’ll have access to resources like free math tutoring, a writing center and a student support center dedicated to your success. But “personalized” doesn’t mean “easy.” You’ll learn from top-notch professors who expect excellence, and work alongside other highquality students who welcome the opportunity to engage with peers who challenge, question and inspire them.

“Does it have my major?” and “Can I afford it?” are two obvious questions you’ll have when choosing a college. But you might be surprised to learn that nearly all potential students will also have this question on their mind: “Will I feel comfortable?” While college is the place where you’ll prepare for a successful career, it’s also the place where you’ll discover who you are. At Bradley, you’ll find a welcoming and supportive environment where you can embrace new experiences. You’ll study with and learn from classmates with differing points of view, diverse ethnic and racial backgrounds, and from different countries and cultures. You’ll find lifelong friends, make memories and change the way you see the world.

SEEING THE REAL WORLD

For students in any major or discipline, studying abroad is encouraged — and in some majors, it’s required. Bradley students have the opportunity to study in every major city in the world, with study abroad programs ranging from a week to a year.

[ \rē( )l\ adj. — Actually existing as a thing or occu in fact; not imagined or supposed. ]

above: Bradley students don colorful robes during a visit to a mosque that towers over Old Delhi in India. The spring break trip is part of an International Business course on doing business in India. Students experience firsthand the country’s rich history along with the present-day business environment.

One of 46 American cultural ambassadors, she teaches classes, works with student organizations like Model United Nations and spends time giving back to her host community.

“It’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience I get to have twice. I was determined to get back to Spain because I felt I had unfinished business there. I thought of things I could have done — or could have done more — while I was there.” –Sojourner White, Psychology and Spanish Double Major

DOING REAL WORK

Bradley prides itself on having a student body of “doers” rather than observers.

urring

How will you know if the major you’ve chosen is the right one? By putting it into practice. How will you gain the experience you need to land a job? By putting your skills to the test. At Bradley, you won’t wait until you graduate to join the real world. You’ll be doing it from the moment you arrive on campus. You’ll quickly become immersed in major course work, and you’ll be doing real work — in the classroom, in the lab, and through internships and study abroad opportunities.

LEFT: Every 65 seconds someone in the U.S. develops Alzheimer’s disease, while anywhere from 7 million to 10 million Americans suffer from Parkinson’s disease. Drug resistance, particularly to antibiotics, is another health crisis that is one of the biggest threats to global health, food security and economic development today. Jennifer Houser has looked at both these issues during her time at Bradley. Beginning in her first year, the Dunlap, Illinois, resident spent 18 months guided by biology professor Craig Cady determining if the drug Simvastatin, commonly prescribed to lower cholesterol, could prevent disease at the cellular level. Her current project, with Brad Andersh, chemistry chair, and Naomi Stover, biology professor, looks at drug resistance as it relates to gene expression. “Research like this is so relevant,” she said. “It helps train future medical professionals in an important way so we can treat members of our communities. It also prepares us for our careers by giving us the groundwork we need.” –Jennifer Houser, Biomedical Science

LAUNCHING REAL PRODUCTS

MAKING A REAL DIFFERENCE

At Bradley, entrepreneurship is more than just a program in the business school. A major initiative for the university, students in all majors have an opportunity to become entrepreneurs — developing ideas, starting companies and launching real products.

Leadership development is a core value of the university and is a hallmark of the Bradley Experience. We believe that leadership is essential to the future careers of our students and the communities where they will choose to live. All student clubs and organizations — from honorary societies to social clubs to local chapters of major professional organizations — are managed and governed by student leaders.

The glove enables DJs to control sound systems through basic motions and different colors of LED lights. It’s a recreational twist on gesture recognition — a technology that relies on sensors to follow commands based on recognized motions. “People in audio engineering or performance may understand one side of the process but not the other. With this experience, I can make the technical parts less complex and help people involved throughout the whole process.” –Evan Leong, Electrical Engineering

In South Africa, exposure to the effects of poverty and social unrest on children helped her develop empathy and strengthened her passion for pediatric medicine. Her journey will continue after graduation to a job at the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital.

The Bradley students worked behind the scenes monitoring live feeds, tracking highlights to be used for news recaps and determining when to insert sponsorships. Bradley students have assisted NBC’s Olympics production staff since 2012.

“I came back more receptive and understanding of what people are going through. I’ve seen how things out of our control can put people in unfortunate situations. It’s my job to do whatever I can to help them improve their lives.” –Lauren Bilgri, Nursing

“I really wanted to know that I would have the best advantage when it came to jobs. The Olympic internship program was something that I found out about when doing research about Bradley. It was an added bonus to what the Department of Communication and Bradley already offers its students.” –Nathaly Trujillo, Sports Communication and Spanish Double Major

Every Bradley student has the opportunity to study at the Turner School of Entrepreneurship and Innovation, a stand-alone academic unit that is the first of its kind. While entrepreneurship education at other schools is typically housed in a specific college and restricted to students studying business or engineering, the Turner School is available to students throughout the university. The school makes it possible for Bradley students from all disciplines to earn a minor in Entrepreneurship and Innovation.
