BHS Key Clubbers, As fall winds down, winter is picking up the pace. The Thanksgiving Dinner has come and gone, leaving the Bloomfield High School Key Club to prepare for the Craft Fair and Cupcake Wars. December is upon us as we get ready for the winter holidays and 2019. Be ready for a jolly good time and extra work as we begin to build our scrapbook for DCON in March. See a board member with any questions or feel free to text the Remind. Yours in caring and service, Jamianne Kelly BHS Key Club Bulletin Editor

Dear Key Clubbers, This November we were able to do some great things. From November 11th until November 19th we held a Canned Food Drive. We were able to collect and donate a total of 1,373 pounds of food to the Community Food Bank of New Jersey. Then on November 20th, we held our annual Thanksgiving Dinner. This is a wonderful event where we work with our local Builder’s Club to serve senior citizens a Thanksgiving meal. It was great to see the smiles on everyone's faces that attended. Overall this month was very successful for us and we are very excited to see what December will bring to our club!

LTG Note Hello Bloomfield, I hope you are all having a great service year. It is that time of the year again when we are all reminded about how fortunate we are. Let us remember to always be selfless and generous when helping others. As the days get shorter and colder, think about ways in which you can help those in need. Everything helps! I am so excited to see what other great projects you get behind this service year! I cannot wait to hear of your success! Happy holidays! Yours in caring and service, Joe

Senior Citizen Thanksgiving Dinner THINGS TO DO

After school, grab some food and come back to help set up for the annual Senior Citizen Thanksgiving Dinner. If you can't make it, come later for helping with the event where you can serve food and drinks to the guests.

WISDOM

Ask the guests questions and introduce yourselves. They tell great stories if you ask respectfully!

We can't wait for next year!

KEY TRAITS FOR KIDS

MAIN FOCUSES: KINDNESS, EMPATHY COURAGE, AND TOLERANCE

What did we do? Two Key Clubbers went to each third grade classroom in Bloomfield to read Each Kindness by Jacqueline Woodson and The Last Stop on Market Street by Matt de la Pena or The Sneetches by Dr. Suess and Ruby Bridges by Robert Coles. With each book, a lesson was taught to the kids about either kindness or empathy, along with activities such as skits and dropping beads in to a bucket to give them a hands-on learning experience. Key Clubbers also spent lunch with the children, reminiscing in their memories of elementary school.

November Updates

Hello BHS Key Clubbers, Can you believe the first marking period is already over!? This school and service year is definitely flying by! I’m so proud of all the service hours that have already been completed by so many of you since September. November was a short, but busy month for Key Club events. On November 13, we wrapped up our Key Traits 4 Kids program at all the elementary schools in Bloomfield. The 3rd graders had a great time and really enjoyed learning about important character traits such as Kindness, Empathy, Courage, and Tolerance. We can’t wait to see how their poster and essay contest entries come out! On the same day, we also held our first Scrapbook Meeting to start brainstorming ideas for our nontraditional scrapbook entry at this year’s district convention. Toy Story is the theme and I’m excited to see all the creative ideas that will get put into the scrapbook. Lastly, we ended the month with our annual Senior Citizen Thanksgiving Dinner on November 20. Over 150 service hours were put into this amazing event and it’s a great way to give back to our community, especially around the holidays! Unfortunately, Thanksgiving week also ended my time as a Key Club advisor for this year. I am currently home on maternity leave, awaiting the arrival of my first baby! Over the past 7 years, I have put so much time and effort into the club and I’m very upset to be missing out on all the upcoming events this year. Being an advisor to this amazing club is definitely one of my most favorite parts of being a teacher! However, I am totally confident that Mr. Bodor and Mr. LaTorre will do a great job without me. They are already hard at work with the board members planning some brand new events for December and January. Stay tuned for more information on all these upcoming events and continue to stay up to date with the Remind messages and emails sent to you by the board. Keep up the great work with all your service hours and I look forward to seeing you all at the Key Club banquet in May! =) Mrs. Gasparri
