Cuba anuncia que reabrirá sus fronteras a partir del 15 de noviembre próximo, una noticia que causa gran alegría en la isla caribeña, y las cadenas hoteleras preparan sus resorts para darles la bienvenida a los visitantes que buscan pasar unas vacaciones inolvidables en el Caribe.

Geografía: Ubicada a la entrada del golfo de México, el archipiélago cubano está formado por la isla de Cuba, la Isla de la Juventud y aproximadamente 4,195 cayos e islotes. Cerca de 140 km la separan las Bahamas; 77 km Haití; 180 km de Florida; 210 km Cancún y 146 km de Jamaica. La silueta de Cuba, alargada y estrecha, alcanza los 120 km de longitud y entre 32 y 145 km de ancho. TORNEO INTERNACIONAL DE PESCA DEPORTIVA

Uno de los principales eventos que Marinas Marlin ofrece ocurre en las inigualables aguas que rodean a los Jardines del Rey, en la provincia de Ciego de Ávila. El Torneo Internacional de Pesca Deportiva Big Game Trolling celebrará su octava edición este mes de octubre, en los días comprendidos entre el 26 y el 30. Este torneo convoca tanto a pescadores profesionales como a aficionados de todo el mundo a competir en la modalidad de tag and release, según estipula la Federación de Pesca Deportiva en sus normas internacionales. Esta área de pesca tiene una extensión de alrededor de 5 millas, ubicada al norte nordeste de Cayo Coco y Cayo Guillermo, y es considerada como una de las más ricas en vida marina de toda esa zona del país. Los competidores tendrán la oportunidad de ver diferentes especies de peces como la aguja de abanico, el principal atractivo del torneo, los marlines azules, los atunes y dorados.

International Fishing Tournament One of the main events offered by Marinas Marlin takes place in the unique waters surrounding Jardines del Rey, in the province of Ciego de Ávila. The International Fishing Tournament Big Game Trolling will celebrate its 8th edition between October 26th and the 30th. This tournament summons both professional and amateur anglers from all over the world to compete in the tag and release modality, as stipulated by the Cuban Federation of Sport Fishing in its international rules. This fishing area has an extension of about 5 nautical miles, located north-northeast between Cayo Coco and Cayo Guillermo, and is considered one of the most biodiverse areas in that part of the country. Competitors will have the opportunity to observe several species of fish such as the Atlantic sailfish, the main attraction of the tournament, blue marlin, tuna and dorado. 12

« FOTOSUB 2021

Cienfuegos será la anfitriona del Evento Internacional de Fotografía Subacuática FotoSub 2021. Este certamen de carácter internacional se celebrará del 27 de noviembre al primero de diciembre en el Centro de Buceo Faro Luna. Las 3.5 millas náuticas que abarca este centro tiene reconocidos puntos de inmersión que resultan perfectos para un evento de fotografía de flora y fauna submarinas como este. Entre los principales puntos de inmersión que los competidores podrán utilizar en sus trabajos se encuentran el reconocido La Dama del Caribe, una formación coralina que se ha convertido en una de las preferidas de los buceadores. A la vasta fauna y flora del área se suman más de 10 barcos hundidos y cuevas, túneles y pasajes que resultan el escenario ideal para las diferentes categorías fotográficas del certamen. Los competidores concursarán en las variantes de Ambiente Subacuático, Cámara de Acción y fotografía Macro y encontrarán en Faro Luna el ambiente natural ideal para sacar el máximo provecho a sus fotos.

Subaquatic Photography FotoSub 2021 Cienfuegos will host the International Subaquatic Photography Event FotoSub 2021. This international event will be held from November 27th to December 1st at the Faro Luna Diving Center. The 3.5 nautical miles that this center covers feature renowned dive sites that are perfect for an underwater flora and fauna photography event such as this one. Among the main dive sites that competitors will be able to use in their work is the renowned La Dama del Caribe, a coral formation that has become a favorite among divers. In addition to the vast fauna and flora of the area, there are more than 10 sunken ships, as well as caves, tunnels and passages that serve as the ideal scenery for the different photographic categories of the contest. Participants will compete in the Environment, Action Camera and Macro photography categories and will find in Faro Luna the ideal natural environment to make the most of their photographs. « AVANZA CAMPAÑA DE VACUNACIÓN PEDIÁTRICA EN CUBA

Cuba comenzó la inmunización contra la COVID-19 de sus niños y adolescentes el pasado día 3 de septiembre, convirtiéndose así en el primer país del mundo en realizar una campaña de vacunación masiva en población pediátrica de 2 a 18 años con inmunógenos producidos por biotecnología nacional. Esta campaña fue autorizada por el Centro para el Control Estatal de Medicamentos, Equipos y Dispositivos Médicos (CECMED), autoridad reguladora nacional. Esta autorización se realizó tomando en cuenta los resultados positivos del ensayo Soberana Pediatría, desarrollado por el Instituto Finlay de Vacunas que incluyó a 350 niños de La Habana de entre 3 y 18 años de edad. La plataforma sobre la que se crearon estos inmunógenos se utiliza en otras vacunas pediátricas, lo que representa un importante elemento de seguridad para este grupo etario. El formato de esta campaña será intensivo y reportará una alta cifra de menores vacunados en poco tiempo, lo cual es posible por la capacidad demostrada del sistema de salud cubano en alianza con las instituciones científicas. De esta forma se han podido emplear conocimientos aprendidos con anterioridad en este tipo de acciones, como es el caso de la campaña de vacunación contra la poliomielitis que se realizó en el país hace años.

Pediatric vaccination campaign advances in Cuba

Cuba began immunizing children and teenagers against COVID-19 on September 3th, thus becoming the first country in the world to carry out a massive vaccination campaign in pediatric population from 2 to 18 years of age using immunogens from national biotechnology. This campaign was authorized by the national regulatory authority, the Center for State Control of Medicines, Equipment and Medical Devices (CECMED). The approval takes into account the positive results of the Soberana Pediatrics trial carried out by the Finlay Vaccine Institute on 350 children in Havana between the ages of 3 and 18. The platform on which these immunogens are based is also used for other pediatric vaccines, which translates into important safety features for this age group. The format of this campaign will be intensive and will result in a high number of vaccinated children in a short period of time, which is possible due to the proven capacity of the Cuban health system to collaborate with scientific institutions. In this way, we have been able to take advantage of the experience we already have with this type of campaign, such as the polio vaccination campaign that was carried out in the country a few years ago.

Ya han recibido la vacuna en el país más de 460 mil niños y adolescentes y, en estos momentos, en La Habana se les está administrando a los pequeños entre 2 y 11 años. En el municipio Plaza, por ejemplo, se realiza en vacunatorios en el que están creadas todas las condiciones para que el proceder transcurra sin dificultad y se garanticen las buenas prácticas médicas. Los niños de primaria están recibiendo el esquema de dos dosis de Soberana 02 en intervalo de 28 días, más una de Soberana Plus al día 56. Este esquema ha demostrado un 91,2 %de eficacia contra la enfermedad sintomática, en su análisis de fase III. Los infantes que no puedan inmunizarse contra el virus mediante la vacuna en el momento que les corresponde, por cualquier razón, podrán tener la oportunidad nuevamente más adelante según las fechas que digan los diferentes vacunatorios de las áreas de Salud. La vacunación a los niños de entre 2 y 11 años concluirá el 15 de noviembre y el propósito declarado por Cuba es que toda la población apta para ser vacunada contra la COVID-19 reciba al menos una dosis de cualquiera de los esquemas autorizados antes de finalizar el actual mes de septiembre. Esta campaña de inmunización reviste gran importancia para las familias cubanas porque garantiza la salud de quienes comienzan un curso escolar en tiempos de pandemia y brinda la certeza de que si de alguna manera sus pequeños contraen el virus, gracias a las vacunas transitarán por las formas más leves de la enfermedad, como ya se ha comprobado. 24

Avanza campaña de vacunación pediátrica en Cuba

More than 460,000 children and teenagers have already been vaccinated throughout the country, and in Havana we are currently vaccinating children from 2 to 11 years of age. In the Plaza municipality, for example, this is held in vaccination centers where all the conditions are provided for the process to run smoothly and good medical practices are guaranteed. Elementary school children are receiving the two-dose vaccination scheme, consisting of two doses of Soberana 02 at an interval of 28 days and one dose of Soberana Plus on day 56. This scheme has shown 91.2% efficacy against symptomatic disease in its Phase III trial. Children who, for whatever reason, cannot be vaccinated at the given time, will have a new opportunity at a later date, according to the schedule established by the vaccination centers of each health area. The vaccination of children between 2 and 11 years of age will conclude on November 15th and the objective declared by Cuba is that all the population eligible to be vaccinated against COVID-19 receives at least one dose of any of the authorized schemes before the end of the current month of September. This immunization campaign is of great importance for Cuban families because it guarantees the health of children who will be starting school in times of pandemic, and provides the certainty that if somehow their children contract the virus, they will have a milder form of the disease thanks to vaccination, as has already been proven.

Cuba ha desarrollado un ensayo clínico, ya en su fase II, del candidato vacunal CIGB 2020 del Centro de Ingeniería Genética y Biotecnología (CIGB), para estimular la respuesta inmunológica frente a infecciones respiratorias agudas, incluidas las causadas por el virus SARS-CoV-2.

Cuba has developed a clinical trial, already in phase II, of the vaccine candidate CIGB 2020 from the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (CIGB), to stimulate the immune response against acute respiratory infections, including those caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

El estudio llevado a cabo evalúa el efecto y la seguridad en sujetos de 60 años o más, contactos de pacientes con infecciones respiratorias agudas, comparado con un grupo control de igual población. El inmunopotenciador que se analizó se aplica por vía nasal y sublingual y estimula la inmunidad a nivel local. El candidato tuvo resultados efectivos en pacientes con COVID-19, al limitar el progreso de la afección a estadios de mayor gravedad pues impide que el virus sobrepase al sistema inmune y logra un equilibrio en la inmunidad natural o innata.

This study evaluates the effect and safety in subjects aged 60 years and older who are contacts of patients with acute respiratory infections and compares it to a control group from the same population. The immunopotentiator studied is administered nasally and sublingually to stimulates local immunity. The candidate showed its efficacy in patients with COVID-19 by limiting the progression to more severe stages of the disease, as it prevents the virus from overcoming the immune system and achieves a balance in the natural or innate immunity.

INVESTIGAN EN CUBA EL NIMOTUZUMAB PARA SOLICITAR SU USO DE EMERGENCIA El anticuerpo monoclonal cubano Nimotuzumab es objeto de investigación con el objetivo de evaluar su efectividad contra la COVID-19 que le permitirá solicitar el Autorizo de Uso de Emergencia. En pacientes graves este fármaco ha demostrado una efectividad impresionante sobre las lesiones pulmonares pues eliminó los coágulos y redujo las secuelas asociadas a la enfermedad. También provocó una mejoría en la función ventilatoria, la reducción de la inflamación, la recuperación radiológica en el 80 por ciento de los estudiados al séptimo día de tratamiento y una alta tasa de recuperación. El Nimotuzumab, desarrollado por el Centro de Inmunología Molecular, alcanzó su registro en 2002 y ha sido empleado pródigamente en tratamientos de cáncer de cabeza, cuello, esófago, pulmón y páncreas.

Cuban scientists present results of three of their vaccines against COVID-19 to WHO Scientists from the Finlay Vaccine Institute and the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology presented virtually to the World Health Organization the results of the clinical trials of the Soberana 02, Soberana Plus and Abdala vaccines. El sol apenas irradiaba el Abra del Yumurí la mañana de aquel 12 de octubre de 1693, cuando en las márgenes de la Bahía de Guanima se fundaba la Villa de San Carlos y San Severino de Matanzas.Trescientos veintiocho años después no han sido pocas las transformaciones que ha afrontado la ciudad. Cuenta la historia que, hasta esa localidad, y por orden expresa del Rey Carlos II, llegó la encomienda de fundar una villa con familias de origen canario, para aprovecharlas riquezas geográficas y naturales que ofrecía tan excelso paisaje.

The sun was barely shining on the Abra del Yumurí on the morning of October 12th, 1693, when the Village of San Carlos and San Severino de Matanzas was founded on the shores of Guanima Bay. Three hundred and twenty eight years later, the city has undergone many transformations. According to history, by express order of King Charles II, a commission was given to found a village with families of Canary Island origin, to take advantage of the geographical and natural resources offered by such an exceptional landscape.

La rebeldía de Guayucayex En el año 1510, y producto de un fatídico naufragio, llegaron hasta los límites de la bahía un grupo de hispanos en busca de cruzar al otro lado de la rada. Pidieron así a un grupo de aborígenes del pueblo yucayo, establecido en la zona, que les cruzaran en sus canoas para seguir su camino en busca del conquistador Pánfilo de Narváez, que venía desde el oriente de la isla con sus huestes. Liderados por el cacique Guayucayex comienzan la travesía y una vez en la zona más profunda de la masa de agua, aquellos españoles fueron golpeados y volcados de las canoas por los nativos, yendo a parar al fondo del mar, con sus pesadas armaduras. Del fatídico suceso solo sobrevivieron tres ibéricos: un hombre y dos mujeres. Rescatados a la postre de su cautiverio, contaron al Fray Bartolomé de Las Casas lo ocurrido en aquel lugar, que, luego de una misiva enviada por el gobernador Diego Velázquez al Rey de España, comienza a llamarse “Bahía de las Matanzas”. Este hecho, que dio nombre también a la actual provincia de Matanzas, está considerado por la historiografía como el primer acto de rebeldía de los aborígenes cubanos y uno de los primeros del continente americano. Prueba de ello son las viviendas del casco histórico, donde todas sus edificaciones son bañadas por la iluminación del Astro Rey en alguna hora del día. Otra característica valiosa es que en las mañanas y en las tardes, según la estación en el calendario, la estrella cubre con sus rayos las tres principales calles de la ciudad: Milanés, Contreras y Medio. Con un total de 24 en toda su área, la otrora “Ciudad de los Puentes” o “Venecia del Caribe” cuenta con tres grandes afluentes: el Yumurí, el San Juan y el Canímar, que cruzan y delimitan algunas de sus barriadas más populares: La Marina, Versalles y Pueblo Nuevo. Entre sus puentes más relevantes aparece el centenario “de la Concordia”, llamado así por ser edificado, como lo conocemos hoy, luego de numerosas trifulcas entre franceses y españoles asentados en la zona, que lo destruían indistintamente para evitar el paso de los otros hacia la rivera opuesta. Cuenta con un valor agregado pues debido a lo peculiar de sus columnas, son estas el símbolo de la urbe. Majestad humilde La ciudad no deja de impresionar a quienes la visitan. El majestuoso Teatro Sauto, ubicado en las cercanías de la plaza fundacional, surge como un coloso neoclásico para plasmar en la imaginación del visitante la grandeza de esta villa tricentenaria. The city of bridges It is difficult to talk about Matanzas and not refer to its bridges. Cada 20 de octubre la mayor de las Antillas celebra el Día de la Cultura Cubana, en ferviente evocación a igual fecha de 1868, en que por vez primera se cantó el Himno Nacional en una plaza de la oriental Bayamo. El 13 de agosto de 1867, los luchadores independentistas Francisco Vicente Aguilera y Francisco Maceo Osorio, en el contexto de los preparativos de la futura insurrección, encargaron a Pedro (Perucho) Figueredo que creara un himno que fuese «La Marsellesa de los revolucionarios cubanos».

Every October 20th, the largest of the Antilles celebrates the Day of Cuban Culture, in a fervent evocation of the same date in 1868, when the National Anthem was sung for the first time in a square in eastern Bayamo.

On August 13th, 1867, the independence fighters Francisco Vicente Aguilera and Francisco Maceo Osorio, during the preparations of a future uprising, commissioned Pedro “Perucho” Figueredo to compose an anthem that would become "The Marseillaise of the Cuban revolutionaries".

October 20th Day of Cuban Culture

Perucho solicitó al músico Manuel Muñoz Cedeño que realizara la instrumentación de la pieza para interpretarla sin letra, con el fin de mantenerla en secreto pues conminaba a los cubanos a luchar por la independencia de la patria. Se aprovechó la cercana festividad del Corpus Christi, el 11 de junio de 1868, y fue interpretada en la Parroquial Mayor y durante la procesión. El 10 de octubre Carlos Manuel de Céspedes en su ingenio La Demajagua, dio la libertad a sus esclavos quienes junto a él se levantaron en armas para alcanzar la independencia de la Metrópoli española; sus tropas liberaron a la ciudad de Bayamo que se convirtió en la primera capital de la República en Armas. El 20 de octubre de 1868, Perucho Figueredo, en medio de la hoy llamada Plaza del Himno de Bayamo, y sobre su caballo, dio a conocer la letra de La Bayamesa, que fue de mano en mano hasta asegurar un gran coro que estremeció el alma de todos los presentes partidarios de la soberanía. El Cubano Libre, órgano del Ejército Libertador, en su número 4, del 27 de octubre de 1868, publica la letra de «La Bayamesa. Himno patriótico cubano», que contenía las dos estrofas con que hoy se entona el canto de combate. On October 20th, 1868, Perucho Figueredo, in the middle of the nowadays called Plaza del Himno de Bayamo, and on his horse, unveiled the lyrics of La Bayamesa, which passed from hand to hand until it became a great chorus that touched the souls of all the supporters of sovereignty present. El Cubano Libre, official organ of the Liberation Army, published in its fourth issue of October 27th, 1868 the lyrics of "La Bayamesa. Cuban patriotic anthem", which contained the two stanzas with which today this combat song is intoned.

En el mes de enero de 1869, los españoles amenazan con tomar Bayamo. Sus habitantes al reconocer que no podían hacer frente a un enemigo tan superior en hombres y armamento deciden el día 12, incendiar la ciudad antes de entregarla a la guardia colonial.

In January 1869, the Spanish troops threatened to take Bayamo; but its inhabitants, recognizing that they could not confront an enemy so superior in men and weaponry, decided to set fire to the city on January 12th before handing it over to the colonial guard.

El fuego redujo a cenizas la hermosa urbe, y con ella, la partitura original de La Bayamesa, pero tanto había calado en el corazón de los cubanos que estos continuaron cantándola y conservándola en su letra y música mediante la tradición oral.

The fire reduced the beautiful city to ashes and with it, the original score of La Bayamesa, but it remained deeply rooted in the hearts of the Cubans who continued singing it and preserving its lyrics and music through oral tradition.

El 10 de noviembre de 1869, durante una visita de Perucho Figueredo a la finca Santa María de El Camagüey, propiedad de la familia Morel, la hija de los dueños, la joven Adela, le pidió al combatiente y compositor, que le copiara la música y la letra del himno.

Perucho Figueredo, Mayor General del Ejército Libertador, cayó en manos de soldados españoles al año siguiente y fue fusilado el 17 de agosto en Santiago de Cuba; a las balas se enfrentó cantando La Bayamesa. Adela Morel atesoró en secreto la partitura que el patriota le regalara, hasta 1912, que se crea el Museo Nacional, la dona a la institución; desde 1971 es el Museo Nacional de la Música guardián de la simbólica partitura. 38

Perucho Figueredo, Major General of the Liberation Army, fell in the hands of Spanish soldiers the following year and was executed on August 17th in Santiago de Cuba; he faced the bullets singing La Bayamesa. Adela Morel secretly treasured the score that the patriot gave her, until 1912, when the National Museum was created, she donated it to the institution. Since 1971, the National Museum of Music has been the guardian of this emblematic score.

José Martí, en medio de la organización de la Guerra del 95, decide rescatar La Bayamesa y ampliar su conocimiento por parte de todos los cubanos; indica al músico y patriota camagüeyano Emilio Agramonte su transcripción al pentagrama, reproduciendo los recuerdos de varios de los emigrados en Estados Unidos. A fines de 1898, el compositor José Antonio Rodríguez Ferrer fue encargado de armonizar, orquestar e interpretar el Himno de Bayamo, con cuya ejecución se daría recibimiento en Guanabacoa al primer contingente militar cubano que arribaba a La Habana, concluida la contienda bélica, hecho que conmocionó a los patriotas y a todos los asistentes. En la Convención Constituyente de 19001901 La bayamesa fue interpretada y declarada oficialmente Himno Nacional de la República de Cuba, a la vez que se izó y formalizó como Bandera Nacional, la llamada «bandera de la estrella solitaria». Desde el año 1980 se celebra en toda la isla el Día de la Cultura Cubana, con un vasto programa de acciones en el que artistas, ciudadanos y visitantes festejan y rinden homenaje al himno patriótico que ha acompañado cada contienda nacional y que es símbolo de cubanía y amor patrio.

During the preparation of the War of 1895, José Martí decided to rescue La Bayamesa and spread it among all Cubans. He commissioned Emilio Agramonte, a musician and patriot from Camagüey, to transcribe it to the pentagram by compiling the memories of several Cuban emigrants in the United States. At the end of 1898, the composer José Antonio Rodríguez Ferrer, was in charge of harmonizing, orchestrating and performing the Bayamo Anthem. This performance would welcome in Guanabacoa the first Cuban military contingent arriving in Havana after the war, an event that moved both patriots and attendees. In the Constitutional Convention of 19001901, La Bayamesa was interpreted and officially declared as the National Anthem of the Republic of Cuba, and at the same time the so called "Flag of the Lone Star" was hoisted and officially recognized as the National Flag. Since 1980, the Day of Cuban Culture is celebrated throughout the island, with a wide program of activities in which artists, citizens and visitors celebrate and pay tribute to the patriotic anthem that has accompanied every national struggle and is a symbol of Cuban identity and patriotic love.

Cuenta la historia que en la isla de la música, la mayor de las Antillas, el día 22 de noviembre de 1948 vio la luz, bajo la protección de Santa Cecilia patrona de los músicos, Adalberto Cecilio Álvarez Zayas. En la orquesta que fue su vida tuvo dos regentes fundamentales: su música y su religión yoruba. Bajo la guía de su padre se convierte desde muy pequeño en sonero y aprendió las esencias de lo popular. Participó en ensayos y tertulias donde el tema principal era el abordaje del son y otras esencias de lo cubano. Su madre Rosa Zayas le dio a conocer el canto a dos voces y, sobretodo, fue la que le enseñó a tener la intuición necesaria a la hora de emprender sus distintos proyectos musicales y sugería en el repertorio los temas que luego se convertirían en himnos para los adalsoneros y público en general. Adalberto sembró su semilla en tres de las más importantes ciudades cubanas: La Habana, Camagüey y Santiago de Cuba. Su padre Nené Álvarez fue el director de la agrupación camagüeyana Soneros de Camacho y la mayoría de sus hermanos son también reconocidos músicos como Román Álvarez (contrabajista y profesor) y Enrique

Álvarez (violinista y director de orquesta). Años más tarde, Adalberto crearía su propia familia musical pues la mayoría de sus hijos también son músicos: Dorgeris, Yaritza, Jennifer y Brayan Álvarez. Heredero de grandes soneros como Miguel Matamoros, Ignacio Piñeiro y Arsenio Rodríguez, su estilo actualizó el son de siempre. Entre 1966 y 1972 cursó estudios de nivel medio en la Escuela Nacional de Artes (ENA), en la especialidad de fagot. Allí comienza su incursión en la composición y los arreglos y entrega un número musical al conjunto Rumbavana titulado Con un besito mi amor que se convirtió en un tema muy popular a inicios de la década del 70. En 1978, a petición del Presidente de la UNEAC santiaguera, el compositor Rodulfo Vaillant, le llega la primera oportunidad importante a Adalberto Álvarez. En este momento, se traslada a Santiago de Cuba donde forma el conjunto Son 14. Surgen, así, nuevas composiciones como A Bayamo en coche y El son de la madrugada, que ponen de manifiesto su gran talento no solo en la composición sino también en los arreglos y la orquestación.

El puente se levanta sobre el río Yumurí, se sustenta sobre una estructura de hierro gigantesca que fue fundida en Estados Unidos y en cada una de sus entradas se levantan cuatro columnas de piedra cilíndrica. Inaugurated in 1878, the so-called Puente de la Concordia connects the colorful neighborhoods of Versalles and Matanzas and is considered a true work of architectural art. The bridge rises over the Yumurí River, is supported by a gigantic iron structure that was cast in the United States and at each of its entrances are four cylindrical stone columns.

Comenzada en 1871, la iglesia tiene cuatro estatuas de piedra en su frente que representan las provincias catalanas y fueron traídas de España. En el centro del templo se levanta, majestuosa, una estatua de la Virgen de Monserrat.

Started in 1871, the church has four stone statues on its facade that represent the Catalan provinces and were brought from Spain. Everyone who visits Matanzas is impressed by the classical magnificence of the Sauto Theater. Built in 1863, it is a design by architect Diego Dell Aglio who made sure that the building's neoclassical interior was filled with Greek marble statues. Its ceilings are guarded by the muses and it is considered among the main theaters of all Cuba.

Ignacio Jacinto Villa, el cubanísimo Bola de Nieve, es de esos músicos inolvidables que marcan a toda una generación y dejan su huella indeleble en la cultura de un país. A 110 años de su natalicio, al poeta y cantautor se le homenajea de la única forma posible para alguien como él: a través de la música. Bajo la producción musical de Michel Herrera, reconocido saxofonista, artistas de varias generaciones se reúnen en un mismo álbum para rendir tributo al pianista y compositor guanabacoense. El disco contará con ocho sencillos de su autoría, grabados casi en su totalidad en formato de banda de jazz. Bola de Nieve nació el 11 de septiembre de 1911, en el capitalino municipio de Guanabacoa, lugar de nacimiento de grandes de la música cubana como Ernesto Lecuona y Rita Montaner. Desde joven tocaba el piano en las tandas de películas silentes del cine Carral y la cultura musical de una región tan rica en historia como Guanabacoa definiría el sello único que lo llevó a convertirse en uno de los artistas cubanos más conocidos. El irrepetible Bola de Nieve, apodo que se dice recibió de la grande Rita Montaner, nunca se consideró un cantante sino que se reconocía a sí mismo como un intérprete más original de la canción hablada. Sin embargo, sus canciones han sobrevivido al paso del tiempo y han ganado una valía internacional innegable. Su encanto, la frescura de sus letras y esa honestidad criolla que destilaba lo llevaron a interpretar en escenarios de Europa del Este, México, Chile y Argentina, y se presentó en el Teatro Lara, el Carnegie Hall y el Café Society de Filadelfia con Paul Robeson. Se les unen los talentos de Frank Fernández, Chucho Valdés, Aldo López Gavilán, Roberto Fonseca, Yazek Manzano y, como invitado especial, Arturo O´Farril. El lanzamiento de este álbum homenaje coincide con el aniversario 35 de la Asociación Hermanos Saíz (AHS), que ofrece una beca con el nombre de Ignacio Jacinto Villa. Bola de Nieve, a song for eternity

Ignacio Jacinto Villa, the very Cuban Bola de Nieve (Snowball), is one of those unforgettable musicians who mark an entire generation and leave their lasting mark on the culture of a country. A 110 years after his birth, the poet and singersongwriter is being honored in the only way possible for someone like him: through music. Under the musical production of Michel Herrera, renowned saxophonist, artists from several generations come together in a single album to pay tribute to the pianist and composer from Guanabacoa. The album will feature eight singles of his authorship, recorded almost entirely in jazz band format. Bola de Nieve was born on September 11th, 1911, in the capital city municipality of Guanabacoa, birthplace of great artists of the Cuban music such as Ernesto Lecuona and Rita Montaner. From a young age, he played the piano in the silent movies screening at the Carral movie theater and the musical culture of a region as rich in history as Guanabacoa would define the unique seal that led him to become one of the most famous Cuban artists. The unrepeatable Bola de Nieve, a nickname it is said to have received from the great Rita Montaner, never considered himself a singer, but a more original interpreter of the spoken song. However, his songs have survived the passage of time and have gained an undeniable international value. His charm, the freshness of his lyrics and that Cuban honesty he exuded led him to perform on many stages in Eastern Europe, Mexico, Chile and Argentina, and he performed at the Lara Theater, Carnegie Hall and the Café Society in Philadelphia with Paul Robeson. His music is considered as pure essence of his Cuban identity, and in his words both the black and the white grandfather found a voice, in that enigmatic cultural mix that characterizes all Cubans. His tribute in the form of an album was recorded at Abdala Studios, under the label of Empresa de Grabaciones y Ediciones Musicales (EGREM). Singers of the stature of Luna Manzanares, Beatriz Márquez and Polito Ibañez will give voice to songs such as No puedo ser feliz, No dejes que te olvide, Alma Mía and Vete de mí. They are joined by the talents of Frank Fernández, Chucho Valdés, Aldo López Gavilán, Roberto Fonseca, Yazek Manzano and, as special guest, Arturo O'Farril. EL PALACIO DE LOMBILLO « UN VIAJE A LA

Recorrer las calles de La Habana Vieja es la mejor manera de realmente conectar con la cultura y la vida cotidiana de los habaneros. Edificada frente al mar que la ha marcado desde sus inicios, la ciudad es en la actualidad una simbiosis armónica entre pasado y presente. En el corazón de La Habana el caminante encuentra la Plaza de la Catedral, una de las más emblemáticas de la ciudad. En una de sus esquinas se levanta el Palacio de Lombillo, una antigua residencia colonial que sobrevive al paso del tiempo. Edificada en el siglo XVI, la casa fue el hogar de varias familias aristocráticas que la modificaron durante siglos antes de convertirse en el hogar de Concepción Montalvo y Pedroso, la esposa de José Lombillo y Ramírez de Arellanos, a quien la edificación debe su nombre actual. La típica arquitectura colonial que inunda la ciudad encuentra su más pura expresión en esta casona. Sus tres pisos fueron concebidos, a la usanza de la época, para servir como cuartos principales para la familia (el tercero y más amplio), para almacenar bienes y albergar las oficinas de la casa (el segundo, con menor altura) y con un patio interior, galerías y habitaciones de servicio y para los carruajes.

The Lombillo Palace, a trip to colonial Havana Walking the streets of Old Havana is the best way to really connect with the culture and the everyday life of the people of Havana. Built in front of the sea that has influenced it since its beginnings, the city is today a harmonious symbiosis of past and present.

In the heart of Havana, visitors will find the Cathedral Square, one of the most emblematic squares in the city. On one of its corners stands the Lombillo Palace, an old colonial residence that has survived the passage of time. Built in the 16th century, the house was home to several aristocratic families who modified it over the centuries before it became the home of Concepción Montalvo y Pedroso, wife of José Lombillo y Ramírez de Arellanos, to whom the building owes its present name. The typical colonial architecture that characterizes the city is expressed in its purest form in this mansion. Its three floors were conceived in the style of the time and are divided between the main rooms for the family (the third and largest), storerooms and offices of the house (the second, with less height) and the first floor with an inner courtyard, galleries and rooms for service and carriages.

Los dos zaguanes de la casa tienen acceso directo al patio interior, en el que se mantiene aún un pequeño pozo y la brisa del mar refresca a quien toma un descanso. Como elemento que la separa de otras construcciones coloniales, esta casa tiene tres fachadas diferentes con sus respectivas entradas. Dos de ellas abren sus puertas a las calles Empedrado y Mercaderes y la otra recibe a los visitantes desde un enorme portal de piedra que abarca todo el costado de la edificación y se abre en la esquina de la Plaza de la Catedral. En la actualidad, esta es la entrada principal del Palacio de Lombillo que atrae a los curiosos con diversas exposiciones de arte y la oportunidad de conocer de primera mano las costumbres de los habaneros de los siglos pasados. La historia de esta residencia española apenas empieza con la familia Lombillo. Durante el siglo XX, la casa fue sede del bufete del reconocido abogado Ricardo Dolz y para 1936 la Escuela Municipal de Música y la secretaría de Defensa Nacional se ocuparon del lugar. En 1947, bajo la atención de Emilio Roig de Leuchsenring, el palacio pasó a ser sede de la Oficina del Historiador de la Ciudad y albergó al Archivo Histórico Municipal y la Biblioteca Cubana y Americana. Quien visita actualmente el Palacio de Lombillo encuentra una casa-museo con exposiciones de arte permanentes. La restauración a la que fue sometida por la Oficina del Historiador de La Habana permitió que la casona recuperara el esplendor que la caracterizó en sus inicios y que la convierte en uno de los principales exponentes de la arquitectura colonial en la ciudad. El Palacio de Lombillo, un viaje a La Habana colonial

The two vestibules of the house have direct access to the inner courtyard, where there is still a small well and the sea breeze refreshes those who enjoy a break. One element that distinguishes the house from other colonial buildings is the fact that it has three different facades with their own entrances. Two of them open their doors to Empedrado and Mercaderes streets, while the other welcomes visitors through a huge stone portal that covers the entire side of the building and faces the corner of the Cathedral Square. Today, this is the main entrance to the Lombillo Palace, which attracts the curious with its various art exhibits and the opportunity to learn firsthand the customs of the people of Havana in past centuries. The history of this Spanish residence only begins with the Lombillo family. During the 20th century, the house was the headquarters of the law firm of the renowned lawyer Ricardo Dolz, and in 1936 the mansion housed the Municipal School of Music and the Secretariat of National Defense. In 1947, under the care of Emilio Roig de Leuchsenring, the palace became the headquarters of the Office of the City Historian and housed the Municipal Historical Archive and the Cuban and American Library. Hasta cincuenta ( 50) unidades de tabaco torcido, con la condición que estén contenidos en el envases originales, cerrado, sellado y con el holograma oficial establecido, exigencias sin las cuales no se autoriza la exportación. Cantidad en exceso de cincuenta (50) unidades de tabaco torcido, las cuales no pueden exceder el valor de los 5,000.00 CUC, deben presentar la factura de venta oficial expedida por la red de tiendas autorizadas a comercializar tabacos torcidos cubanos, correspondiente a todo el tabaco torcido que intenten extraer y que necesariamente tiene que estar contenidos en envases originales, cerrados y sellados y con el holograma oficial establecido.
