BHT Innovation Research and Innovation Centre – latest Work on the new R+I hub has been paused since March due to the Covid-19 outbreak, but is expected to restart August / September. A new project manager has been appointed by the Trust to oversee the project which will take 15 weeks to complete. A marketing consultancy firm has also been appointed who Chris will be working with to develop a new microsite and marketing strategy for the innovation space.

#YourIdea - Innovation case study in action!

At the height of Covid-19, staff in ICU were having to adapt to new guidance to care for their patients and deal with the fast changing demands of the coronavirus pandemic. The idea of having a quick and easy way of referring to the latest guidance was raised. And in a matter of weeks a simple QR based Covid-19 ICU guidance tool was created.

Innovation @ BHT BHT is one of 6 Trusts that have come together to pilot England’s first AI enabled stroke network. The e-Stroke suite technology developed by Brainomix is being used by the Stroke team at Wycombe. Ongoing projects + horizon scanning Ufonia: is testing a new post op cataract follow up pathway by replacing human telephone follow up with a medical device voice ‘chat-bot’ system. Following a pause for Covid-19 this went live in June and 9 participants have taken part to date. Binding Sciences limited: is an evaluation project of an innovative replaceable gel-based urine absorption pee bag ‘Releaf2’ for users with limited mobility with the community continence team. Invention for innovation (i4i) grant application recently submitted. If successful, the project will start later this year. Other projects on the horizon: DeepXHealth - evaluation of a tele dermatology solution within the dermatology pathway in collaboration with the Oxford AHSN; Keratify - a clinical trial of an Innovative Advanced Skin Testing technique with the Plastics team; CovidCalculator – a tool developed at BHT that aims to provide an estimated probability of Covid-19 in those who present to A&E and a Health & Wellbeing mental health app to be evaluated in ICU in collaboration with the clinical psychology team!

Innovation - Newsround Bucks Health & Social care ventures - update BHT are partners on this 6 month innovation accelerator programme. It was paused during Covid-19, but has now restarted and applications for cohort 3 closed this month. The programme is expected to open again next month. Innovation Strategy Chris is working on a new 5 year innovation strategy that will be based around practical innovation themes building on our reputation as a centre of excellence for spinal rehab, plastics + burns, cardiology + stroke and Ophthalmology.
