letter from the EDITOR

HELLO &

DAUN LESS I feel like I have been at a loss for words and a loss for understanding so many of the things that are going on in our world. My heart aches for those that have lost loved ones to death and for those that are lost in this world without Jesus. Both Arman and myself believe that Jesus is coming back very soon. All of the signs are pointing to it. I excitedly await his return. Life has been beyond difficult for me for a few months now. I have been tormented with anxiety. I know anxiety is not from God and I have been fighting non stop. I am tired. We all are. So many are dealing with heavy burdens and heavy struggles but maybe our struggles will become lighter when we start sharing the load with others. I pray whatever you are carrying right now that you will be able to lay it at Jesus’ feet and that your brothers and sisters in Christ will come around you and help you to continue to stand until the return of our Lord. Stay strong and stay blessed! #bringingbeautifulback #dauntlessstrong XOXO 2

Arnette’s CORNER

It was the Giggle By: Arnette German

34

35

God always delights in revealing to anyone who He truly is. Be it showing up right in the nick of time in the mist of dire moments, inexplicably transforming the intangible into the tangible or birthing “can” out of “can not”-anything to show that He has everything already under control, He will do it! Now, don’t get me wrong; because of who He is, He does not have to prove Himself to us . After all, He is God. Without our Yay or Nay, our input or opinion does not confirm nor validate who He is. However, wanting to always know just how sovereign, merciful and caring He authentically is, God will creatively and effectively take the opportunity to show up to leave us in a complete stupor! Now, because of how B-A-D God is; sometimes, only faith is the requirement in order to receive whatever it is we’re petitioning Him for. For some, healings happen instantaneously which is a miracle. Where as, on the other hand, it is a process and faith is the key to receive that healing.

36

37

However, it is those delicate moments, disbelief unbeknownst to us, sneakily, yet, rather quickly, crept in making it that we’re desiring and/ or needing, seem “impossible” and/or, if being transparent, too good to be true. It is then in that split second, how we move, be it mentally and/ or physically or respond either audibly and/or subconsciously; will not only determine if you receive it or not but can delay in receiving it and/ or takes you through a process to receive it to demonstrate who He is. For Abraham’s and Sarah’s case, it was the giggle subconsciously, that was the game changer. See, God informed Abraham that he would have a son, in his and Sarah’s old age, both past child bearing ages. Sarah, his wife, in disbelief of hearing this laughed within herself at the thought of this coming to pass. In disbelief due to our human minds, our way of thinking, for a brief moment, Sarah forgot who God is and how He operates. Therefore, it was the giggle, that not only cultivated the delay of the word coming to pass, it “prompted” God to definitely ensure that His word manifested in His way without any help, (as Sarah, in the interim, tried to “assist” in the fruition of the word by giving her handmaiden, Hagar, to Abraham to be intimate to bring his “son” into existence. Yes, a son was birthed but not the “promised’’ son God spoke of ). It was the giggle, that interesting and different form of disbelief that confirms that God does not like to be mocked! Therefore, in order to receive all that you need from Him-Let Him Be! After all, it was the giggle-a small, yet powerful error of action that delayed the word. Govern your laughter accordingly!

Xiomara’s THOUGHTS

His plans are

Greater

By: Xiomara Eve Montalvo

40

When you look out the window, what do notice? “Houses filled with people and children playing outside.”” When you look up at the sky, what do you see? “A blue sky turning gray with the promise of rain.” When you turn around, what do you find behind you? “An empty living room with the TV on.” As you walk, where are you going? “To work, to the store, or to Starbucks.“ When you open your eyes, what is your first thought? “Shut off the alarm.“

These may sound like regular questions and normal responses. The average day to day hustle and bustle of daily life, right? Have you ever sat down and contemplated, “Is this it? Will this be all that I amount to?” We age with every passing day and the flow of time sometimes seems to run like sand through an hour glass. We feel the aches and pains of a days work, settle in our bones as we rest. We get up and do it all over again. Is this it? I am here to reassure you, and myself, that our stories are not finished yet. This may be our temporary reality, but perhaps the next corner we turn or the next time we step out the door there will be a encounter waiting to happen. It could as simple as paying for someone’s coffee or playing hop scotch with your neighbor. We will never know when or where we will be needed to make a change. Get ready because our stories will continue to unfold. God is not finished with us yet. His plans will always be greater.

Who Wants a Test??? By Tamara Haygood

Abraham’s faith and commitment to God was put to a very strong test. In fact, we see at least three separate times in his life that he had great tests placed before him. His first test we see in Genesis 12, “The Lord had said to Abram, ‘Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you.I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.’” He was told to leave his family and set out on a journey. He was not given a destination point, just to go. He was set out as a pilgrim to an unknown land. God was using Abraham as an example to believers as we are to be set apart from the world and unto God. God’s call to Abraham contained not only promises, but also, he required obedience on the part of Abraham. The obedience was contingent on receiving the promises. We see that throughout scripture. God’s promises are true and belong to us as His children, but they are always tied to our obedience. Another part of this that is so essential is trust or faith. Abraham had to trust that what God was telling him was true in order for him to step out in faith. Hebrews 11:8-12 says, ” By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going. By faith he made his home in the promised land like a stranger in a foreign country; he lived in tents, as did Isaac and Jacob, who were heirs with him of the same promise. For he was looking forward to the city with foundations, whose architect and builder is God. And by faith even Sarah, who was past childbearing age, was enabled to bear children because she considered him faithful who had made the promise. And so from this one man, and he as good as dead, came descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as countless as the sand on the seashore.” The next test was to believe in a promise that took 25 years to come to pass. We see in Genesis 15 that God not only made a promise, but he made a covenant agreement with Abraham. The same today for us would be a legally signed contract. Genesis 15:1-21 “ After this, the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision: ‘Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your very great reward.’ But Abram said, ‘Sovereign

48

50

Lord, what can you give me since I remain childless and the one who will inherit my estate is Eliezer of Damascus?’ And Abram said, ‘You have given me no children; so a servant in my household will be my heir.’ Then the word of the Lord came to him: ‘This man will not be your heir, but a son who is your own flesh and blood will be your heir.’ He took him outside and said, ‘Look up at the sky and count the stars—if indeed you can count them.’ Then he said to him, ‘So shall your offspring be.’ Abram believed the Lord, and he credited it to him as righteousness.

He also said to him, ‘I am the Lord, who brought you out of Ur of the Chaldeans to give you this land to take possession of it.’ But Abram said, ‘Sovereign Lord, how can I know that I will gain possession of it?’

So the Lord said to him, ‘Bring me a heifer, a goat and a ram, each three years old, along with a dove and a young pigeon.’ Abram brought all these to him, cut them in two and arranged the halves opposite each other; the birds, however, he did not cut in half. Then birds of prey came down on the carcasses, but Abram drove them away. As the sun was setting, Abram fell into a deep sleep, and a thick and dreadful darkness came over him. Then the Lord said to him, ‘Know for certain that for four hundred years your descendants will be strangers in a country not their own and that they will be enslaved and mistreated there. But I will punish the nation they serve as slaves, and afterward they will come out with great possessions. You, however, will go to your ancestors in peace and be buried at a good old age. In the fourth generation your descendants will come back here, for the sin of the Amorites has not yet reached its full measure.’ When the sun had set and darkness had fallen, a smoking firepot with a blazing torch appeared and passed between the pieces. On that day the Lord made a covenant with Abram and said, ‘To your descendants I give this land, from the Wadi of Egypt to the great river, the Euphrates— the land of the Kenites, Kenizzites, Kadmonites, Hittites, Perizzites, Rephaites, Amorites, Canaanites, Girgashites and Jebusites.’” In verse 6 it says, ‘Abram believed the Lord, and he credited it to him as righteousness.”

Abraham had trust in and reliance upon God to see this promise through. God saw Abraham’s heart and his attitude of faith and counted it as righteousness. Abraham was in right standing with God. His heart was turned toward God and he was living in obedience to Him. The third test we see was after God had fulfilled his promise to give him and Sarah a child. They had waited a very long time and had even tried to make things happen their own way by having a child with another woman. God was faithful and gave them a son.

51

We find this third test in Genesis 22. “Sometime later God tested Abraham. He said to him, ‘Abraham!’ ‘Here I am,’ he replied.

Then God said, ‘Take your son, your only son, whom you love—Isaac—and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on a mountain I will show you.’ Early the next morning Abraham got up and loaded his donkey. He took with him two of his servants and his son Isaac. When he had cut enough wood for the burnt offering, he set out for the place God had told him about. On the third day Abraham looked up and saw the place in the distance. He said to his servants, ‘Stay here with the donkey while I and the boy go over there. We will worship and then we will come back to you.’ Abraham took the wood for the burnt offering and placed it on his son Isaac, and he himself carried the fire and the knife. As the two of them went on together, Isaac spoke up and said to his father Abraham, ‘Father?’ ‘Yes, my son?’ Abraham replied.

“The fire and wood are here,” Isaac said, “but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?”

Abraham answered, ‘God himself will provide the lamb for the burnt offering, my son.’ And the two of them went on together. When they reached the place God had told him about, Abraham built an altar there and arranged the wood on it. He bound his son Isaac and laid him on the altar, on top of the wood. Then he reached out his hand and took the knife to slay his son. But the angel of the Lord called out to him from heaven, ’Abraham! Abraham!’ ‘Here I am,’ he replied.

‘Do not lay a hand on the boy,’ he said. ‘Do not do anything to him. Now I know that you fear God, because you have not withheld from me your son, your only son.’ Abraham looked up and there in a thicket he saw a ram caught by its horns. He went over and took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering instead of his son. So Abraham called that place The Lord Will Provide. And to this day it is said, ‘On the mountain of the Lord it will be provided.’ The angel of the Lord called to Abraham from heaven a second time and said, ‘I swear by myself, declares the Lord, that because you have done this and have not withheld your son, your only son, I will surely bless you and make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as the sand on the seashore. Your descendants will take possession of the cities of their enemies, and through your offspring all nations on earth will be blessed because you have obeyed me.’”

52

53

54

Here we see the ultimate test of faith. God commanded him to do something that made no sense at all. It is completely against his will as a loving father. He has waited his whole life for this child. This hope for his legacy, his only son that he adores. I believe God tests all of us to some degree, to determine where our love and commitment for Him lies. Do we put all of hope and aspirations in those we can physically see and touch and love? Or do we put our trust in our God that we cannot see and trust in the promises He has made, the promises that always hold a role of obedience for us? This is what Abraham faced. Through this test God forced Abraham to come face to face with these questions. Would he trust God with all his heart? God did not ever desire any harm to come to Issac. But He did want to test the commitment of Abraham. Through this we see one of the names of the attributes of God being revealed. In verse 8, “ And Abraham said, my son, God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering: so, they went both of them together.” The phrase “God will provide in Hebrew” is “Jehovah-Jireh”. He is our Jehovah-Jireh. At times we too are tested. And with our tests are His promises but just as it was with Abraham our obedience and trust and faith in God are necessary to receive those promises. Be blessed my friends, don’t grow weary in your times of testing. Galatians 6:9 “ Let us not grow weary or become discouraged in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap, if we do not give in.”
