LT RONNIE

STANLEY

quoth the raven “This team is special, and I think anybody that watches our games can see that. The caliber of players at every position we have is special, and that includes the coaching staff. We’re never satisfied; this is just the beginning. The last three weeks, we’ve been turning that leaf over and getting better and better. For us, [it’s about] just continuing to work, focusing on ourselves, tuning out all the outside noise. We’re just worried about ourselves and getting better.” – TE MARK ANDREWS on the significance of Baltimore’s 6-2 record

It’s a battle of division leaders when the Baltimore Ravens (6-2) host the Seattle Seahawks (5-2) for an interconference showdown today at M&T Bank Stadium. Baltimore is riding a three-game win streak, while Seattle has won its past two contests. Under head coach John Harbaugh, the Ravens are 42-22 vs. NFC teams (2-0 this season). With QB Lamar Jackson as its starter, Baltimore is 17-1 against the NFC, including 1-0 vs. Seattle (2019). The all-time Ravens-Seahawks series is tied, 3-3, with Baltimore winning the most recent game, 30-16, at Seattle in 2019. The Ravens are 2-1 in home games played against the Seahawks. In last Sunday’s 31-24 victory at Arizona, RB Gus Edwards led the charge by rushing for a game-high 80 yards and 3 TDs. QB Lamar Jackson was an efficient 18-of-27 passing for 157 yards and 1 TD (TE Mark Andrews), while the defense registered 2 INTs (DB Brandon Stephens & S Geno Stone) and 2 sacks (DT Justin Madubuike & NT Michael Pierce). The Ravens scored 4 TDs on 4 red zone trips, including a perfect 3-for-3 in goal-to-go situations. Baltimore is 6-2 for the eighth time in team history (also 2019-21, 2010-12 and 2006) and seventh time under Harbaugh. The Ravens made the playoffs in six of those previous seven such seasons (all but the 2021 campaign).

NUMBERS TO NOTE S Geno Stone, a 2020 seventhround Baltimore draft pick, leads the NFL with 5 INTs. Stone has recorded a pick in three straight games and in four of his last five contests. Last Sunday, he became the first Raven since CB Cary Williams (2012) to record an INT in three consecutive games.

NFL INT LEADERS 2023 SEASON

Rk. Player (Team) 1. Geno Stone (Bal.) 2. DaRon Bland (Dal.) 3. Seven Players

INTs 5 4 3

40 – Career touchdowns recorded by TE Mark Andrews, becoming the fourth TE since the 1970 merger to reach that figure in the first six years of a career (Antonio Gates – 51, Jimmy Graham – 53 and Rob Gronkowski – 65). 11 – Team-leading tackles for both LB Patrick Queen and LB Roquan Smith in the victory at Arizona. The outstanding duo leads the Ravens in TTs (Smith has 82, while Queen is second with 69). Sunday marks the Ravens’ fourth home game of the season (2-1 record thus far) and the first of three consecutive contests at M&T Bank Stadium for Baltimore in November. 2023 baltimore ravens gameday | 5

ON THE RAVENS’ 6-2 RECORD: “As we always say, ‘Nobody’s crowned after eight games.’ There’s a lot of football to be played. The season is long for a reason, and it does weed out the best. If we want to be the best or considered the best, we’re going to have to do it over the long haul. I’m very confident in our guys. Our guys have what it takes – character, toughness and resilience. I really love our guys. I’m proud of our guys.”

CEO OF THE

“SHOW ME” BUSINESS BY DAN HOROWITZ

10 | 2023 baltimore ravens gameday

Off the field, shaped by his small-town upbringing in Marshallville, Ga., Smith has become a community stalwart. From serving food and distributing coats, to hosting a jersey exchange for fans to replace his former No. 18 jersey with a free-of-charge No. 0 jersey, Smith’s wide-ranging off-the-field engagements emulate his diverse skill set and loaded plate of gameday responsibilities.

IT’S BEEN JUST OVER A YEAR since Roquan Smith was traded to Charm City, made his Ravens debut in New Orleans and previewed what a new-age Baltimore defense could look like with an All-Pro-type performer manning the middle. That once promising glimpse has turned into today’s reality. Smith, who doesn’t mince words and is good for a fiery one-liner each week, truly steers the ship with his actions. When stating that he’s from the “Show Me” business – as Smith recently did when teetering the fine line between not overhyping or underestimating his opponent (one he helped beat by 32 points, by the way) – he means it; those aren’t empty words. In fact, Smith isn’t just in the “Show Me” business; he’s the CEO.

Just as “Harbs” alluded to, Smith’s teammates recognize his greatness and have elevated their game, too. The impact he’s made extends beyond the beforeand-after snapshots of individual and team success in relation to his Baltimore arrival – which tells an interesting story, too. Smith has created a force multiplier effect that snapshots can’t illustrate, box scores can’t showcase and data junkies can’t quantify.

The Georgia native has been a “Show Me” guy since the Ravens acquired him on Nov. 1, 2022. He’s consistently showed up and showed out on gamedays, within the training facility’s walls and out on the practice fields of 1 Winning Drive, as well as in the Baltimore community.

“No linebacker I’ve ever played with has been better than him,” Jadeveon Clowney, a three-time Pro Bowler himself, boldly stated. “He’ll be a big reason why our defense goes the way it goes. He’s bringing the best out of a lot of guys around him. When you have a leader like that who is going to put it all out there, not just on Sundays, but on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays – the whole week – and you come to the game, it just rolls over. It rubs off on people. It’s contagious.”

“He’s relentlessly chasing every detail of his craft, and he does so with an enthusiasm and a demeanor and a confidence that you respect,” head coach John Harbaugh oozed of praise for Smith. “The culture of our team becomes a mix of all the parts and all the pieces in there, and sometimes there can be a catalyst. I think he is a little bit of a catalyst for us in that way – just with the way he operates – and that’s good. That’s what leadership is.”

“If someone is in a more fortunate situation than others and is able to give back, I know the type of feeling that it can have,” Smith stated. “It changes lives, and it gives you a totally different perspective on life. I was able to know the impact that you can have – even at such an early age – well before I was Roquan Smith playing in the NFL. With just how much love the Baltimore community has shown me, I’m excited to be able to put my hand in the pot and do a lot of things for everyone.” Only a year into his role as CEO of the “Show Me” business, Smith’s leadership has already taken the team’s culture, defense and community engagement to new heights. And because nobody reaches maximum professional potential in their first year on the job, JUST IMAGINE WHAT THE FUTURE HOLDS...

BALTIMORE’S MARCHING RAVENS PRESENTED BY M&T BANK

Currently in its 76th season of operation, Baltimore’s Marching Ravens consists of over 150 musicians, Crew Members, and Staff. On gameday, the Marching Ravens can be found at their pregame concert at Oriole Park, marching down RavensWalk and through the tailgate lots, and performing in the stadium throughout gameday. In addition to performing at Ravens home games, the ensemble continues to be deeply involved in the Maryland community, appearing at several parades and events throughout the year. Truly a Maryland tradition and a Pro Football Institution. For information and to schedule an appearance, visit:

RISE & CONQUER

The Ravens’ live mascots, Rise and Conquer, live in the Animal Embassy at the Maryland Zoo. These important birds aren’t able to travel due to a dangerous avian flu. But you can meet other Zoo animals along Ravens walk before each home game. For more information, visit:

POE

PRESENTED BY MERRITT CLUBS

For the 2023 season, Poe can be found doing what he loves most – hanging out with fans and cheering on the Ravens at M&T Bank Stadium. Find him on Ravens gameday to say hi! Poe also loves meeting fans out in the Baltimore community. Bring Poe to your event in 2023!
