INSIDE LOOK:

(On Right) Our spring cover mom Meghan Trainor gets candid about her postpartum experience. (Below) I'm so excited that this issue includes tips from one of my very favorite interior design studios, Chango & Co!

What a difference a few months makes! I'm now writing this as the birds sing, the sun shines, and the temperatures have finally come back above 50 degrees. I'm so ready for fresh, spring style (like what you see on Page 22!) and flipping through these next 100 Mini pages outdoors!

In this issue, you will find everything you need to create and organize the perfect play space (ideal for channeling your spring cleaning energy!), a peek inside the Louis Vuitton bag of Larroudé co-founder Marina Larroudé, plus how Live Beautifully host Katrina Scott is rais-

ing her littles to go after their dreams. In our cover feature, soon-to-be mom of two Meghan Trainor discusses what she wishes she knew prior to welcoming her first son, Riley, the realness of postpartum life, and why she wrote her new heartfelt (and hysterical!) book, Dear Future Mama!

We're giving away a few copies of Meghan's new book, so be sure to come see us on social media and we'll see you in the summer, Mini friends!

BUMP TALK

Investing in maternity clothing may not rank highly on your list, especially when many pieces are designed only to be worn for a f ew months. But those rules don't apply to Bumpsuit .

3 M I N I s p r i n g ‘23 2

.

AS THEY SAY necessity is the mother of invention and that was exactly the case when Trunfio found herself in a maternity style bind. Unable to find anything fashion-forward that checked the boxes for comfort and confidence, she set out to create a collection of uber soft pieces that made women feel and look their best through pregnancy and long after. It is precisely this attention to detail—and the luxurious fabric—that made our jaws drop when we first tried on the brand's signature one-piece.

"This is the most incredible thing I've ever put on my body," says Mini's Editor-in-Chief Kate Kirby. "I've never felt anything like it." Bumpsuit's brushed jersey fabric is made with a four-way stretch—a delicate combo that Trunfio confirms took much trial and research to perfect—that allows the iconic styles to glide easily over growing bumps. It's all of the comfort a mom-to-be desires without any of the extra, loose fabric that would make it a one-hit wonder only fit for pregnancy. Bumpsuit offers styles like the Lucy and Kate—popular full length unitards—and the Cindy, a best-selling bike short version ideal for every spring and summer wardrobe that has made them a hit with celebs like Cardi B, Kelly Rowland, and Hilary Duff, to name a few. The brand has taken the maternity, or rather, the fashion world, by storm and it's not stopping with suits, having expanded into dresses, underwear, and even baby carriers!

Founded by Nicole Trunfio, Bumpsuit is the most versatile style staple we've ever seen with its stretchy, buttery fabrics and neutral hues. The best part? It's meant to be worn both with a bump and beyond

POK POK PLAYROOM

On a mission to help raise the next generation of creative thinkers, Pok Pok is a digital playroom full of fun activities that will have Minis ages 2 to 6 using their imaginations, exploring, and experimenting. The app is both calming and sensory-friendly with soft sounds and slow-paced animations to avoid overstimulation. Inside the playroom, they’ll tell stories, develop early STEM skills, draw, build, and learn about the world we live in through open-ended play. playpokpok.com

Getting your Minis to sit still for longer than 30 seconds may seem impossible, but that doesn’t mean they can’t still learn and enjoy the benefits of meditation to calm their tiny minds. The Headspace app offers helpful kids meditations for starting the day, melting away anger, practicing focus, and of course, settling down before bed.

No more wondering what’s on the menu for your baby-led weaning or puree-fed babes. Biteables from Little Spoon eases the transition to table food with cut-to-size meals in perfect portions.

MEAL PLANS

Variety is the spice of life, or so they say, and that applies to feeding your littles too. When your babes are ready to dive into the wide world of fruits and veggies and proteins (oh my!), you might find yourself researching appropriate portions, bite sizes, and what exactly to set on their tiny plates. Little Spoon is eliminating the guesswork for parents with the addition of Biteables into their already nutritious portfolio of early childhood meals and snacks.

Each Biteables plate includes a range of perfectly-portioned early finger food meals, with each component cut-to-size and optimized for fine motor and oral skill development.

IN TODAY’S DIGITAL

AGE screens are a constant presence in our lives. From watching TV to using a smartphone or tablet, kids spend a significant amount of time in front of screens which can ultimately leads parents to wonder how much is too much. We asked Esther Huybreghts and Melissa Cash, the co-founders of award-winning digital toy app Pok Pok Playroom, how parents can encourage a healthy relationship with screens, make tech time more intentional, and at the end of the day, feel a little less guilty about Mini scrolling and clicking.

DO IT TOGETHER. “This lets you be more handson in managing their experience,” says Huybreghts. “If it’s an app, make sure they know how to interact with the content. Turn on the

Idevice’s parental guide like Guided Access on iPad/iPhone to make sure they don’t accidentally swipe out of the app and into something they shouldn’t be playing with. In an app like Pok Pok, you can give them a little tour of the different activities, exploring a few of them together to see which ones they’re most excited about. We recommend having a “debrief” afterwards. Take a few minutes to talk about what they’ve watched or done. If it’s TV, ask them what the story is about. If it’s an app, ask them to show you something new they have discovered. This sets a healthy base to communicate about screen time right from the start and will pay off big time when you are dealing with teenagers and their devices.

CATEGORIZE IT. “Split screen time into different categories: passive, active, independent, and collaborative. This will help you decide which types of screen time you’re most comfortable with and think about how you’d like to regulate it for your little one,” says Cash. “Passive doesn’t require your little one to do anything. Watching TV, including most YouTube channels, falls into this category. Active requires kids to interact in some way. Apps and games belong here. Within both categories (especially Active) you can have Independent and Collaborative screen time. Independent means that not only will kids enjoy it on their own, but it’s also possible for them to play successfully without help from a grown-up. Collaborative means that the experience is going to be intentionally enjoyed by you and your child, like watching a movie or exploring an app together. This adds a level of interaction and social-emo-

tional connection, which is fantastic for your relationship with them.”

THINK BACK. “Something I always find comforting (and hope fellow parents do too) is that people once thought that reading books was actually “dangerous.” Every generation in history has had a taboo media that people freaked out about, thinking it would ruin people’s lives,” says Cash. “First, it was the telephone in the late 1800s. Then, the radio came along. The TV was even more terrifying and was accused of “hurting the patterns of family living.” When computers were invented, there was a wave of mass panic... you get my point. New technology is always scary, especially as a parent worrying about screwing up their child. It’s important to remember that the type of content is a lot more important than the device itself. Find content that you feel good about sharing with your child, and don’t dwell on the rest. We’re all just doing our best!”

SET BOUNDARIES. “We try to empower parents to set their own guidelines based on their own preferences and comfort levels. Communicate about screen time with your child. Is it a special treat they only get to have while traveling? Or, is it part of their daily lives? Is there a time limit? Why? Helping kids understand what is happening and why is a great way to set healthy boundaries and navigate playtime that you both feel good about,” Cash recommends.

TAILOR IT. “One of the most important

M I N I s p r i n g ‘23 64

things when it comes to content is making sure that it’s not over stimulating or dysregulating for kids— this will help transition away from it. Slow-paced animation and scenes are better than fast cuts for brain development. Sounds should be gentle, and not frantic or too loud,” Cash tells us. “Know that all screen time isn’t created equal. Passive screen time like YouTube or TV is different from active screen time such as playing with an age-appropriate app or FaceTiming with a loved one. There is a time and a place for both, but we always recommend active screen time where kids are encouraged to actively engage with the content in a meaningful way.”

LET IT INSPIRE. “My number one rule is that I want their screen time to inspire offline play, and open-ended apps and games tend to do that,” Huybreghts tells Mini. “They play with the Marble Machine in Pok Pok, then after screen time is over, they’re inspired to build their own marble run out of blocks and toilet paper rolls. They bring the stories they tell in Town and House with them to their playroom floor and continue them with their real toys— I love to see that.”

LET THEM EXPERIMENT. “Creativity and curiosity are the seeds that start all important life skills,” says Huybreghts. “By giving kids a space to experiment freely without punitive consequences, they feel safe to fail and try again, building confident kids with resilient minds that are able to think outside of the box. These are the kids shaping the next generation.”

BREATHE , BABY

Almost baby time? Try these three yoga poses from mom of two and Yoga Director at YogaRenew Teacher Training, Kate Lombardo, to help induce labor.

WHEN YOU’RE NEARING your due date, you may start to consider labor-inducing methods that will get things moving. We’ve heard it all— from eating spicy food to engaging specific pressure points—but another, perhaps more calming, technique includes prenatal yoga poses to promote labor. It is important to remember that both your body and baby need to be ready for such poses to work. “When it comes to labor and birth, the most important thing someone can do is to just stay present and breathe, and yoga is the perfect way to practice that leading up to labor,” says Lombardo.

GODDESS POSE. Come to stand with the legs 3-4 feet apart (wider than hips distance). Turn both heels to face in and the toes to face out. Bend the knees and lower the hips about halfway down as

W

if coming to a high squat position. This pose puts both of the legs in external rotation which helps to open the pelvis and make room for baby to move downwards into the right position for birth. This pose also allows for intuitive swaying movement which can help to relieve typical end-of-pregnancy discomfort.

ANJENAYASANA WITH A SIDE LEAN.

Come to all fours with your hands on blocks at the high setting. Step the right foot forward between the blocks. Shift the hips forward to bring a stretch into the hip flexor of the back leg and crease of the front hip. Raise your left arm overhead and take your right forearm to the top of your right thigh. Side lean towards the right to stretch the whole left side of the body. Repeat on the other side. This pose opens up the psoas, another important area to release as it cradles the uterus and can have an effect on the baby’s position. The side lean helps to create space around the ribs and whole abdomen.

WIDE LEGGED SQUAT. Come to stand with feet slightly wider than hips distance apart. Turn your heels slightly in and toes slightly out. Bend your knees and lower your hips down towards the floor so you’re in a squat position. Place a block underneath your seat for support. This position opens the inlet of the pelvis to allow for baby to move down towards the cervix. It also puts you in a position to relax the pelvic floor which is important through the labor process.

POST BABY BRAIN

Postpartum depression affects as many as 1 in 7 women after giving birth and while there may be no definitive way to avoid it, you can lessen the likelihood of experiencing it by following these helpful steps.

6 M I N I s p r i n g ‘23 8

“POSTPARTUM depression can start during pregnancy or any time up to a year after childbirth,” says Alicia Brown, a licensed therapist with Grow Therapy. “Anyone can be affected— moms, dads, even adoptive parents. It impacts a person’s mood and even their thoughts on being a parent.” Different from the “baby blues” which typically resolve within a few days, postpartum depression (or PPD) is known to cause extreme mood swings, exhaustion, and feelings of hopelessness, among others. So what’s a new mom to do? We must first acknowledge that it is not your fault. You may not be able to avoid PPD, but the following steps can help lessen the mental load that it brings.

Seek Help Early .

Having a baby changes a lot in your life that is not often spoken about. A therapist can help

educate you on what postpartum depression looks like, help process your concerns, fears, and needs, and teach different skills and techniques to communicate them to your support system.

Rest and Recharge . Our two main sources of energy are sleep and food. Do your best to maintain healthy sleep habits (as much as you can!) and eat nutritious foods that fuel your body and help you feel your best.

Change the Scenery . For the first few weeks after childbirth, you will spend most of your time at home. Go outside! Take a 15 minute walk in your neighborhood. Sit in the park. Instead of having family come over to see the baby, meet up at your local Starbucks, invite

them to run errands, or go on a stroll with you.

Use Your Village . As a parent, you will not have it all figured out and it’s okay to ask for help. It may be hard to voice what your needs are, so start by practicing on yourself: I need sleep; I need help cleaning the house; I need two hours to myself. Remember, people are not mind readers. If they are not told what is helpful, they will support you how they think you need support.

Reduce Stress . Having a baby is a big change in itself. Try to avoid major moments right after childbirth, such as moving or changing jobs. The first six to ten months, make it your priority to focus on your own wellbeing and take it easy. There is no shame in that game!

A SOFT RUG . The softness of the rug material is essential in play spaces because children are always engaging in floor play. I love wool rugs with a short pile, or jute rugs, which can be very soft layered over a 1/4” wool rug pad.

STORAGE. I always add a combination of both open and closed storage pieces. Closed storage for the clunky, unattractive toys along with space for bins to easily organize by genre (like LEGO, art supplies, etc); Open storage to personalize the space with styling. This may be shallow, wall-mounted bookshelves to display favorite books by color or a bookcase with cabinets at the bottom and open shelving on top to display objects specific to the child’s favorite hobbies.

WHIMSY . Children love a light feature and neon signs are a buttoned up way to add this without the messy look of endless, twinkling light cords. A custom neon sign could be made into an inspirational phrase, favorite saying, or graphic in a color that suits the theme of the playroom. A gallery wall with a beautifully framed collection of curated children’s art is also a way to personalize the space while adding color. I like to choose art with similar color palettes in a variety of mediums, which can be displayed in a mix of standard frames and shadow boxes to create dimension and interest.

STATIONS. It’s important to think about how the playroom will be used specific to your child and create defined areas that engage different types of play. I always include a lounge area with a floor sofa, corner chair, or bean bag with books around for cozy, quiet reading time; a small play table with no more than two chairs near a storage piece holding arts and crafts; lastly, an area for floor play.

OVERHEAD. I love adding wall coverings to the ceiling. It’s a less expensive way to add a statement and less committal than covering an entire room. Maybe a cloud mural, a fun floral or stripes— the sky is the limit! A statement light fixture is also an opportunity to add something fun to the space.

CALMING THE CHAOS

Channel your spring cleaning energy into the playroom with these helpful tips from Ashley La Fond, founder of home organization company

Keep Things

Accessible .

To encourage independence, we suggest keeping storage low so kids can access toys on their own. When they can reach for their own toys, books, and games, they have more freedom when playing. It also means that maintaining your space is easier as children can be encouraged to do their own clean-up! We love creating a reading nook in playrooms and to save space, we’ll often use wall shelves for books. Add comfy seating, a cozy rug, a cute play tent, or floor cushions to maximize comfort.

Use a Cube System.

We love a cube system like the Ikea Kallax so we can add in cute cubes for toy storage while keeping some shelves open for books, puzzles, or single toys. We also love the Ikea Trofast system with built-

in, lightweight bins that are perfect for toys. When selecting pieces, look for durability and sturdiness, and then layer in fun accessories like our favorite storage cubes.

Rotate Toys . In a lot of playrooms, we see toys mixed in huge bins or baskets that kids have to dig through or dump out to find what they want to play with. This makes playtime unfocused and creates a huge mess! Prevent this kind of overwhelm by rotating

toys into play, and storing toys and activities in smaller, focused bins. Rather than large bins, separate toys into categories with smaller, clear bins that can be pulled out and easily stored. If you can, designate a closet or other space for storage, so you can rotate in toys, games, and books to keep playtime fresh!

KEEP IT CLEAN

These playroom essentials will help you keep everything in its place, while also amping up the style factor.

Make

It Fun

. We recommend sticking with a neutral palette for furniture in a playroom, and then layering in color and texture with floor coverings, decals, wall art, and fun decor. This way, your playroom can easily grow with your child, and decor can be swapped as your kids’ interests change. For younger kids, colorful playmats are great floor covers instead of a rug because they are soft and can be wiped clean. We often source artwork from places like Etsy, where you can find inexpensive and colorful prints to download and frame yourself. Featuring kids artwork in inexpensive frames is another great way to add decor and a personal touch to your playroom.

FAMILY FOCUS

Spaces designed for the family to enjoy should feel friendly and stand the test of time. Susana Simonpietri, Creative Director of NYC-based design studio Chango & Co , shares what to keep in mind as you plan.

Get Low

When designing a space for the whole family, we like to furnish rooms with pieces that are lower to the ground so that you can interact with your kids more. This makes the room a lot friendlier to people of all ages!

Star Power

Choose a design focal point when furnishing a kid's space. This could be a fun rug with a pattern, bold wallpaper, or anything else that can be a “big moment” in the room. Start from there, and choose the rest of your decor around this.

Smart Fabrics

To design with longevity in mind, stick to neutral colors and fabrics for bigger pieces of furniture and paints. Bring color in through fun accessories or other easy pieces that can be swapped out over time such as pillows, art, or even rugs.

Time Test

Focus on durability. Use performance fabrics where you can to help with stains and upkeep. The last thing you want to be worrying about is how to keep a space tidy that is meant to get messy.

The host of the Live Beautifully podcast, Katrina Scott is on a mission to help women live fulfilled, happily, and beautifully. It's a passion that carries over into her everyday as a creator, entrepreneur, and mother of two. We sat down in her sunny Manhattan Beach home to discuss the challenges of motherhood, postpartum, and how she's raising her own Minis to create the lives of their dreams.

8 M I N I s p r i n g ‘23 0

DREAM WEAVER

The Most Surprising

“I’m surprised how strong I’ve become for my girls. I thought motherhood would be all about raising our children and teaching them how to take on the world… but they have actually become my greatest teachers. They make me stronger than I ever thought I could be. I think our children show us the way through difficult times. I want to provide a safe place for them to be creative, to express themselves, and to grow into their own self.”

Transition to Two

“I think it was actually harder going to two because it was a harder season of life. There are so many outside factors that can affect being a parent. It made me realize that having children is a beautiful blessing, but depending on what other stressors we have going on, it can affect us so much. If you have support and minimal stress in your life, it can be a lot easier. But if you have a harder environment, then it can be more difficult. Couple that with sleep deprivation and it’s just really tough mentally and physically. ”

What I Learned

"[To moms about to have their second

baby], set your life and family up to have minimal stress. It’s key to have as little commitments as possible and a peaceful and calm environment. If you have a job, ask for extended maternity leave and postpartum therapy support. Don’t be afraid to ask for help, because you never know. Also, someone told me to 'Never blame the baby,' and it helped so much. If you’re tired and can’t run around with your first born, try not to say it’s because their sibling kept you up. Or if they want you to play, but it’s breastfeeding time, say something along the lines of, 'I can play with you in 10 minutes. Can you go set up the toys and get the space ready for us? I’ll be there soon.' This helped tremendously to prevent Isabelle ever being upset with Colette.”

Journey to Baby

"Along with lots of complications along the way, we ended up in an emergency C-section. I hemorrhaged in the OR causing me to lose more than half my blood volume. They gave me three blood transfusions to save my life and I am so grateful that I am here. I thank God, my nurses, and doctor that I am here and get to be a mother each day."

JENNA ELLIOTT
“ I think our children show us the way throughdifficult times.”

The Name Game

"Isabelle Margaret is both our grandmother’s names. Colette Jane is a name we loved, plus my mom’s name, Jane."

On Working with Her Husband

"We work together really well! Brian is a brilliant product developer and innovator and I’m a creative, so between the two of us, we have a lot of fun. The challenges of working together are making sure we shut work off and connect as a couple and as parents."

Proudest Career Moment

"It’s hard to think of just one thing, but yesterday, I had a moment that brought me to tears. I’m designing swimsuits and it may seem small, but my daughter came up and said to me, 'Mommy, you made this?' and I answered her, 'Yes, this is one of mommy’s designs.' She held it up and said the words, 'Wow, we can make any project we wish for!' She calls artwork "projects" and my heart just burst with happiness. Whatever I do, I hope I inspire my daughters, and any woman out there, that she can create the life of her dreams. As long as we’re creating art and loving what we do, we can find joy and fulfillment."

Making Time for Herself

"I’m still working on this. I try to

take time for working out before the girls wake up. Now that Colette wakes up just one time throughout the night, I can finally wake up and do something for me. I also journal and listen to at least one book a week. I listen while on walks or doing housework. I really enjoy listening to other women and their wisdom and lived experiences."

On Her Home

"Thanks for coming over Mini Magazine! Our home is in Manhattan Beach. We love

how open the space feels. Isabelle can be playing in the living room while we are cooking and we can all still feel together.

On Her Kids Spaces

"Our whole house kind of turns into a playhouse. We do have a toy bin next to our sofa, but Barbies can be found everywhere. We always have arts and crafts on our dining room table too. It’s rarely clean, but I love it so much. I love seeing artwork out and paintings halfway done. We also set up a small playroom on our bottom floor with

toy and craft bins. My favorite part of our home is a big white board in the kitchen where we hang Isabelle’s artwork and school projects.

Advice to Her Daughters

"I can't think of just one thing— so here's a short list! Listen to your intuition… it’s your strongest guide in life. Also, mistakes in life are so normal and okay— how we react and recover is what’s important. Don’t dwell too long, have the courage to live happy. Find joy in small acts of kindness each day. Give to the less fortunate, talk to the elderly, smile at strangers, ask how your barista is doing and remember their name, and volunteer. Lastly, love so deeply that it outweighs any turbulence you experience, because life is a wild ride, but love conquers all."

What's On Deck

"We just launched Mommy and Me sweatshirts on ShopBabyBarn.com. They’re in the most beautiful powder blue color. We also started carrying more sizes and expanded the brand to toddlers as well. I also have a podcast called Live Beautifully where I interview women (and some men) about living beautifully through all of life’s challenges."

Soon-to-be mom of two Meghan Trainor has a knack for telling it like it is and this spring, she's taking it to the page with Dear Future Mama , the funny yet factual TMI guide to motherhood we all need before welcoming baby.

MOTHER KNOWS

BEST

MEGHAN TRAINOR is not one to hold back. From her wildly successful music career to divulging the intimate details of her life on her podcast, Workin' On It, Trainor is the Queen of TMI and that is not stopping with motherhood. “I had no clue when you start pumping and the process of how your milk comes," the Takin' It Back singer-songwriter tells Mini. "I was rattled when they pulled me out of surgery and told me to start pumping." With other moms experiencing similar shock and surprise after baby, Trainor decided to bundle rarely-talked-about concepts—plus all of the other information she wished she had during her first pregnancy and birth with now twoyear-old son, Riley—and poured it onto the page in Dear Future Mama: A TMI Guide to Pregnancy

MBirth, and New Motherhood. The hilarious and heartfelt book includes Trainor's own personal stories on body image and mental health, as well as advice on everything from ovulation apps to random hair growth with expert insights from her OB/GYN, registered dietician, and personal trainor (notes from husband Daryl Sabara might make an appearance too!). "The moms of YouTube and TikTok really helped me to feel less alone, which is why I wanted to write the book!" the soon-to-be mom of two tells us.

MORNING ROUTINE

“Riley gets up like clockwork at 6:30

a.m. and most mornings, I will get up with Daryl and we go together to get our boy up. He’s still in his sleep sack, which is great because he never tries to escape the crib! We change him into a fresh diaper and a new outfit, then we brush his teeth with a cake flavored toothpaste. Every morning, we say hi to the cars in the driveway out the window, 'Hi cars!' Then we go downstairs and Daryl makes us both oatmeal and we eat breakfast together as a family. I feed the dogs and unload the dishwasher. If we have time, we do a workout while my mom comes to babysit or we all go for a walk outside. Then, the work day begins!"

THE MOST IMPORTANT WHEN RAISING KIDS

“So far, it's affirmations. I try to tell Riley how smart and awesome he is, and I get him to say it about himself as well. I’ll have him say, 'I’m awesome!' and 'I’m smart!'"

THE GREATEST CHALLENGE

“[The greatest challenge of motherhood] is the mom guilt that I put upon myself when I have to go work.”

MY BIGGEST WORRY

"That my kid gets hurt— physically or emotionally. My mom always said she is as happy as her least happy kid, and that is so real. When your kid is suffering, you are suffering. They are your heart walking around outside of your body."

PREPARING FOR A SIBLING

“We aren’t sure if he understands what is happening yet. We point to my belly and he says, 'Baby!' Sometimes he even says 'baby brother' or the name of the baby. He is so sweet and gentle with his friends that we are not too worried about how he will react with the baby.”

ON PARENTING WITH HUSBAND DARYL

“We communicate about every single thing and we always make sure we are on each other’s team. We are always looking out for each other. If I am really tired from a long day of work, he will put Riley to bed for me or if I see that he is struggling, I will let

him go meditate while I spend time with the boy. We visualize the airplane oxygen method where you put the oxygen mask on yourself first and then you put it on your kid. We have to make sure we are OK so that we can take the best care of our children.”

THE NAME GAME

“We always loved the name Riley and we never knew anyone with that name. We liked the idea of not naming him after anyone. This time around, it is quite the opposite. He will be named after a few people we love and even a cartoon character in a movie.”

ON LEARNING SHE WAS EXPECTING BABY NUMBER TWO

“I was trying for a while so I was overjoyed! There is a TikTok video of the moment I found out. You can watch exactly how I was feeling."

HER SECOND PREGNANCY

"I had a lot of bleeding in the beginning to the point that I didn’t think that I was pregnant. I thought I was having my period. Turns out that implantation bleeding really got me this time. I also experienced all of the first trimester symptoms this time that I did not have with Riley. I was

“ They are your heart aroundwalking outside of your body.”

nauseous, weak, and cold all the time! I walked around with heated blankets for a long time. In my first pregnancy, I also had gestational diabetes and this time I don’t, which is amazing!"

THE FOURTH TRIMESTER

“Living with my family really helped. I always had a babysitter on hand. Having Daryl saved me. He literally changed my diapers and the baby's diapers when I couldn’t. Due to my C-section, I couldn’t even go down and pull up my pants and Daryl helped me with everything. Also, living in a one story house with no stairs was helpful. I’m a little worried for the climb to my bedroom in this new house. Lastly, the moms of YouTube and TikTok really helped me to feel less alone, which is why I wanted to write the book— Dear Future Mama!"

WHAT SHE WOULD TELL HER NEW MOM SELF

"Talk to a therapist about all the nights you cried yourself to sleep. It could be a sign of PTSD. Also, ask for help. I didn’t really get into that until Riley was one year old. Don’t stress about breastfeeding. Pumping is just as good and you are doing the best that you can."

THE MOST SURPRISING PART OF PREGNANCY AND BIRTH

“It may be because I never did a pregnancy class since I was pregnant during COVID, but I had no clue when you start pumping and the process of how your milk comes. I was rattled when they pulled me out of surgery and told me to start pumping. I was told by a lactation specialist that my nipples were too small; I did not know that was even a factor. I also wish that somebody told me to play music during my C-section so that I didn’t hear all of the noises!”

ON MOM GUILT

"My first job back to work was a TV show with long filming days, so I missed a bunch of Riley’s 3-month-old life. But I was lucky enough to have him there with me during my lunch breaks, in the mornings, and after work, so I made sure to make the most of my moments with him. Being as present as possible in the moments that we do have together is the most helpful thing for me."

THE ADVICE SHE WOULD GIVE HER KIDS

"Dream big! I never thought I could do any of this in my wildest dreams and I want them to know that the sky is the limit."

“He literallychanged my diapers and the baby's diapers when I couldn't.”
