MEET BOBBI-JO MEULEMAN BOISE METRO CHAMBER’S NEW PRESIDENT AND CEO

We were thrilled to have Bobbi-Jo Meuleman officially join our team in October. As a way to get to know her, we thought it would be fun to ask her a few light-hearted questions:

Read the Aug. Press Release

What traits have you lived by in your career? Be kind, be responsive, work hard, maintain relationships, build strong partnerships, and have fun. Does your family have any big traditions? Every year before Christmas we go to the Botanical Gardens Winter Garden aGlow. I also let my boys decorate the Christmas Tree on their own. It is something I look forward to each year. We have hot chocolate and put a Christmas movie on. They have so much fun looking at all their ornaments and actually do a pretty good job decorating. The tree has only fell over once from not being decorated evenly! What phone app do you use the most? Infinite Campus, making sure my oldest son is turning his homework in. What do you do in your free time? I guess you could say I am a sports mom! Most of my free time is spent at our boys sporting events from baseball, football, basketball, soccer, skiing and swimming. It is hectic at times, but keeping our boys involved and active is a big priority for me and my husband, and I love cheering my guys on! When we don’t have sports I love taking our dog Pete to the river. What is your favorite movie? Hands down Lonesome Dove. I am also a BIG fan of Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter. What is your favorite topic to talk about? I could go on for days about the importance of strategic investments in infrastructure and education. What are you most excited for in your new position? This is a great area to live, and a lot of that success can be attributed to the investments and support the business community provides. I am excited to advocate for and promote the businesses of the Treasure Valley to keep the great success we have going and provide the business sector the support and resources they need to succeed. 2

SANJAY MEHROTRA, MICRON CEO SPEAKER SERIES - OCTOBER 4

SAVE THE DATE FOR THE FINAL CEO SPEAKER SERIES TH

DECEMBER 12 , 2023

BOBBI-JO MEULEMAN

NEW PRESIDENT & CEO, BOISE METRO CHAMBER

Sanjay Mehrotra, CEO of Micron Technology, discussed the future benefits of cutting edge memory manufacturing in Boise and the USA during his fireside chat with Dr. Marlene Tromp, President of Boise State University, at the Boise Metro Chamber’s second 2023 CEO Speaker Series. The event took place at Stueckle Sky Center. Mehrotra shared news about the $15 billion expansion of Micron’s Boise campus which will be the size of 10 football fields. “Micron is a great source of pride for Boise and the United States,” stated Mehrotra. “We are working hard to help develop and advance the workforce for the future starting with a dedication to bringing back production to Boise and the United States.” He said the facility is estimated to bring 2,000 direct jobs and 15,000 community jobs over the next ten years. “This expansion project will improve wages in the community and aide child poverty.”

“Currently only 2% of memory is made in the U.S., and it is all produced by Micron,” shared Mehrotra. Micron has its sites set on increasing domestic production over the next two decades through the manufacturing plant in Boise, and a megafab, which will be the largest semiconductor fabrication facility in the United States, located in Syracuse, New York. These plants will, “Strengthen U.S. technology leadership as well as economic and national security, driving American innovation and competitiveness for decades to come,” according to Sanjay Mehrotra. Mehrotra predicted Micron will have a very important role in the development of AI since Micron is creating the industry’s fastest high bandwidth memory (HBM) which is also low powered.

ADVOCACY UPDATE Stay up-to-date on your city and state's government af fairs

Tori Thomas Community and Government Affairs Manager

It’s a pleasure to share with you our collective commitment to advancing the economic and educational prospects and the broader Idaho community. The Boise Metro Chamber strongly backed the Governor’s expansion of the Idaho Launch program last session. This grant program aims to cover 80% of tuition and fees, up to $8,000, for students pursuing in-demand careers at eligible institutions. With a budget of about $75 million, it could potentially grant up to 10,000 awards annually. Idaho is a diverse state with both rural and metro communities. This program is a great

opportunity to bridge the gap between industry, school, and state; to better understand what each community needs in their workforce and train students to fill that need. As Idaho’s largest business-first organization, we believe this program will ensure our workforce stays strong, our families stay united, and the next generation feels empowered and supported to stay in our great state. For more information about Idaho Launch, you can visit: nextsteps.idaho.gov In the realm of federal legislation, we’ve seen a surge in travel since the COVID pandemic. HR 3935, Securing Growth and Robust Leadership in American Aviation Act, seeks to reauthorize the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) through FY2028. This legislation addresses numerous

aviation-related issues, including the pilot shortage, by extending the pilot retirement age from 65 to 67. This change will enable more experienced pilots to continue working and training new generations to enter the workforce. Over the years, travel and tourism have been central to our advocacy efforts, and we believe that this legislation will help ensure that opportunities continue to flow into our state as we continue to grow. As we near the upcoming legislative session, we express our gratitude to everyone, both within and beyond our state borders, for their ongoing efforts in making Boise an exceptional place to live and do business.
