The Empire Theatre Trust

The Trust’s congratulations go to everyone at the Empire for their amazing efforts as part of Eurovision 2023.

The theatre roof was used for a pre-final event which saw a zip wire attached across Lime Street to St George’s Hall, while the theatre itself was lit up beautifully as it staged a big screen viewing of the final.

Perhaps most impressively, the Creative Learning Department, which the Trust helps fund, organised performances from the Youth Theatre, schools, partners and professionals at Chavasse Park on a sun-kissed terrace stage in Liverpool ONE, showcasing their talents and spreading the Eurovision vibe which swept Liverpool, the UK and so many other countries.

There was much more Eurovision involvement from the Empire in other ways, too. All in all an outstanding effort and we applaud everyone involved from the theatre and, especially, Theatre Manager Diane Belding. Indeed everyone at the Empire can take a proud Eurovision bow… it’s douze points from us!

THEATRE FOR ALL

We believe everyone should be able to enjoy the thrill of live theatre. We continue to work hard to improve our accessibility offerings, including programming a variety of tailored performances which allow more people to enjoy the magic of theatre.

AUDIO DESCRIBED PERFORMANCES

Live verbal commentary is given through headsets to assist patrons who are visually impaired. The description doesn’t change the performance for any guests, but fills in the gaps for those who require it.

CAPTIONED PERFORMANCES

Similar to television subtitles, captions give patrons who are deaf, deafened or hard of hearing access to live performance. The actors’ words appear on unobstructive display units at the side of the stage at the same time as they are spoken or sung.

RELAXED PERFORMANCES

Designed to benefit patrons with additional needs, including those on the autistic spectrum, those who make involuntary noises, patrons with dementia or anyone who would benefit from a more relaxed environment. These informal performances have slight alterations that don’t impact on the content of the show.

BSL INTERPRETED PERFORMANCES

Trained British Sign Language signers stand to one side of the stage and interpret the script used by the performers at the same time as the actions are being performed.

FURTHER INFORMATION

Did you know, that for every performance (not just assisted performances), we have dedicated members of staff on hand to ensure any patrons with access requirements have everything they need?
