FACULTY OF INFORMATICS AND DESIGN

WELCOME MESSAGE DEAN – FACULTY OF INFORMATICS AND DESIGN Please find a warm welcome from the Faculty of Informatics and Design. Our faculty is a home of five Departments (Information Technology, Architectural Technology, Applied Design, Media and Urban and Regional Planning). The diverse nature of the faculty is presenting possible staff and students’ collaborations for technological cutting-edge projects. The design and technology nature of our programmes prepares our graduates for the world of works requirements demanded by the Fourth and Fifth Industrial Technology. The staff and students in the faculty have won different national and international competitions, which presents the quality of work our faculty is contributing to the global community. The students have an opportunity to explore possibilities of applying for the international student exchange programs. Part of Service/Work Integrated and project-based learning, our students are given opportunities to engage with industry partners. The faculty strives to embrace inclusiveness that harnesses appropriate technologies in a collaborative, supportive and transformative academic environment by being responsive and adaptive to local, national, continental, and global socio, eco and cultural context. This vision is supported by our mission statement which seeks to embrace the spirit of oneness (ubunye) in providing diverse innovative T&L, research, and community engagement, for students and staff towards achieving excellence in academic performance, entrepreneurship, and lifelong learning. We work hard in producing well rounded graduates that are ready for industry and be able to be employers by starting their businesses. Welcome to FID you have made a right choice to join the family that focuses on bringing solutions to national and global communities.

STUDENT ONBOARDING

14-16 FEBRUARY 2024

TIME

During the student onboarding process, students will do a short course in the library dedicated to academic basics such as plagiarism and referencing. The course will cover how to use the library as resource and understand citations and referencing. LEARNING STUDENT PORTALS: BLACKBOARD 101 During the student onboarding process, it is important to introduce students to the BlackBoard portal and provide them with the knowledge and skills they need to effectively use it throughout their academic journey. BlackBoard and Telegram are an important resource for staying up to date on coursework and communicating with instructors, therefore our first-year students will do an introductory course on how to use BlackBoard, and how to use the library as resource. This will be done during term 1 at the campus library. NOTE: All registered first year students have been added to the BlackBoard and TELEGRAM groups. © 2024 Cape Peninsula University of Technology | Faculty of Informatics and Design

FACULTY OF INFORMATICS AND DESIGN ORIENTATION PACKET: All first-year students will receive an orientation packet during their orientation, which will include important videos about the university, courses and its policies and procedures. NOTE: This is accessible on BlackBoard under the Directing and Producing course folder. VIDEO DEPOSITORY:
