Bishop Swanson Reconsecrates Church Renamed in His Honor Jasmine Haynes, Communications Specialist
Bishop James E. Swanson Sr., some of the cabinet and a few lay and clergy
from the Greenwood District gathered in December for a service of relocation, renaming and reconsecration of what is now Swanson United Methodist Church. Due to COVID protocols, only a few representatives from the former Glendora and Barwick United Methodist churches were there to celebrate their cooperative ministry, acknowledge Swanson UMC’s roots and discuss the vision for its future. Sykes Sturdivant, a member from the former Glendora UMC, reflected on special moments there as he handed the deed over to the newly renamed congregation. “When I see the yard and the building—the whole thing just looks great,” said Sturdivant. “This is where I was baptized—this is my home, so you might see me every now and then.” [Read More]

Mississippi Annual Conference Festival of Preaching Clergy and laity are invited to attend the Mississippi Annual Conference Festival of Preaching. 2022 Annual Conference Session Dates – July 13 - July 15 The 2022 Session of the Mississippi Annual Conference will begin Wednesday, July 13 and conclude Friday, July 15, and will be held at the BancorpSouth Arena located at 375 E. Main Street in Tupelo. Saturday, July 16 will include a worship service and a recognition of Bishop James E. Swanson Sr. and the episcopal family, followed by a reception. Ordination will take place July 13 at 7:00 p.m. at the BancorpSouth Arena. The clergy session will be held online on June 9 from 9:00 a.m. to noon.
