LENSES
Bases
The base of a lens is the curvature of the lens itself.
The higher the value of the base, the more the lens is curved and the glasses wrap around the face.
It Is important to know this data when choosing a lens to mount on a frame.
It is necessary to select the lens with the most suitable base according to the curve of the bevel of the eyepiece.
Base 2
Suitable for the world of fashion frames with straight fronts.
Base 4
Much used for trendy and latest generation sunglasses. Available in many variations according to specific needs.
Base 6
For sunglasses with classic sun lenses. Available in different variants according to specific needs.
Base 8
Suitable for sport and wrap around sunglasses. Base 8 lenses are more curved to ensure a greater wrapping of the sunglasses, to protect more of the eyes and increase the visual field of the wearer.
The optical centre is decentred from the geometrical axis to ensure a clear and better vision even in lateral areas.
LENSES
Materials
CR39
It is the most used plastic polymer for making sun lenses and for ophthalmic use. It is thinner and weighs half as much as a glass lens. Offers impact resistance above FDA (the American regulatory body) requirements but it is not unbreakable and therefore not recommended for use in active sports. CR39 lenses offer a high quality of vision and transparency, UV protection up to 360 nm and with a particular treatment up to 400 nm
POLYCARBONATE
It is an organic material that is characterized by a high level impact resistance compared to CR39 and glass. It is used to make children’s sunglasses, sports and safety frames. Polycarbonate also offers ultraviolet protection, ensuring a UV protection up to 380 nm as well as good vision quality and transparency.
NYLON
Nylon, or polyamide, is a new high performance material, because it combines the advantages of polycarbonate and those of CR39 lenses. Nylon lenses have considerable impact resistance and do not break when drilled with the drill (making them perfect for clip-ons and rimless). It is compatible with all the materials used for frames, light and easy to work with, coated with a hard coating it has good resistance to impact and scratches; it is recommended for coatings including mirroring.
POLARIZED SHEETS
Polarized lenses made of a material called Tri-acetate of cellulose orhave many advantages including a natural abrasion resistance. The lens is lighter and thinner than other sun lenses. The polarizing filter with which it is fitted allows shielding the reflections created by highly reflective surfaces such as water or asphalt, reducing glare, improving comfort, the perception of contrast and the vision of the wearer.
GLASS
High optical quality and remarkable scratch resistance characterize mineral glass lenses. The low chromatic dispersion ensures a clear vision, full of contrasts and comfortable. The greater specific weight and frangibility limit the use in the case of sports and dynamic activities.
Coatings
HARD COATING HC
Hard coating on both sides of the lens. Protects from scratches. Extends the life of the lens. Recommended on all organic lenses.
ANTI-REFLECTION HMC HARD MULTICOATED
It is an anti-reflection treatment combined with hard coating; ensures excellent transparency, reduces the reflections of sunlight and artificial light by increasing the light transmission up to 99%. Indispensable for all high index lenses, it improves the aesthetic appearance and visual comfort.
HYDROPHOBIC
The hydrophobic treatment allows water to slide quickly on the surfaces of the lens; it repels moisture and oily substances thanks to hydrophobic and oleo-phobic properties. This treatment allows a simple and easier cleaning of the lens and reduces the possibility of superficial scratches.
BLUE LIGHT FILTER
It protects the eyes from the harmful effects of blue light by reflecting it better than a lens with the anti-reflection coating – It blocks the blue light component up to 40% making the use of electronic devices more comfortable. Ensures 100% protection from ultraviolet light (UV 400).
MIRROR COATING OR FLASH COATING
Mirroring is a highly reflection treatment that significantly reduces the amount of light reaching the eyes of the wearer of glasses. This treatment is usually applied on sun lenses and can be applied on a base of any colour.
Requirements and testing methods.
Filters suitable for continual use
• For spherical and astigmatic powers: no more than ± 0,12 diopters
Recognition of the colours of signal lights
Q = Inferior limits of the Q transmission values

TESTING METHODS
• Static, dynamic and inflammability tests: To verify the filter is not dangerous for the eyes.
• Optical tests to check transmittance: verifies the refractive power and light diffusion as well as quality defects.
• Ageing test: To verify the durability of the filtering performance.

ANTI-REFLECTION HMC HARD MULTICOAT

HYDROPHOBIC
