30 money tips

1

GET REAL. What are your total debts? Total assets? Annual expenses? Monthly expenses? Sit down and add it all up. Don’t forget to look at monthly subscriptions and other recurring expenses.

2 CREATE A MONTHLY BUDGET. Now that you know exactly what you spend what can

you eliminate from your monthly expenses? By proactively managing the dollars that are coming in and going out we choose how to grow, spend, save, invest or give those dollars away.

3 BUILD AN EMERGENCY FUND. Minimum: $1000. Ideal: 6-12 months of living expenses. (Get a second job or start selling stuff you own to build this up).

4 CREATE MONEY WELLNESS and healthy spending habits. Ask yourself, is this a need or a want? Add it to a list and if you are still thinking about it 10 days later and have the cash for it, go ahead and buy it.

5 6 7 8 9

PAY OFF YOUR DEBT. Make a plan and get after it. GET MONEY IN THE DOOR. What can you do to make money today? This week? BUILD UP SPECIAL SAVINGS ACCOUNTS for taxes, travel, holidays, etc. MAKE A PLAN TO SAVE AT LEAST 15% OF YOUR INCOME for retirement. START PAYING EXTRA towards your mortgage or saving up money for a house

10 11 12 13

SAVE MONEY FOR YOUR KIDS' COLLEGE FUNDS. Even small amounts add up. MAKE A PLAN TO RETIRE EARLY. Life is short. SCHEDULE MONTHLY OR WEEKLY BUDGET MEETINGS with your partner. USE CASH ENVELOPES. Try to store your credit cards away to get a handle on your

down payment.

spending. Initiate a 72 hour rule. Wait to see if you still want it.

14 SHOP WITH SMALL BUSINESSES as much as possible. They are the life-blood of our

communities. I know Amazon prime rocks. But if there is something I can buy locally I do.

15 TALK TO YOUR PARTNER AND FAMILY ABOUT MONEY. Talk to your friends about money. Share your financial goals.

16 MAKE MONEY A PRIORITY IN YOUR LIFE. I’m not talking just about earning it, and I’m not talking about being greedy or selfish but making it a priority to earn it, save it, spend it wisely and work towards financial freedom.

30 money tips 17 BE A GOOD STEWARD OF YOUR FAMILY'S RESOURCES. I like to ask myself “Is

this the best use of our money right now?” Be gentle with yourself - if you end up spending money forgive yourself and try again.

18 MEAL PLAN. Meal planning is one of the best ways to save money on eating out and avoid wasted food, hands down.

19 AVOID STORES. The best way to not spend money in stores is to avoid them all together and when you do go in to stick to your list and budget.

20 UNSUBSCRIBE FROM STORE EMAILS. (not ours of course.) 21 NAME YOUR BANK ACCOUNTS. Our business account is Booming Business. Our separate savings account for our future Lake House is called Lake House Dream. Our college savings accounts are named Give Our Kids Wings fund.

22 SCHEDULE 1-4 NO SPEND MONTHS EACH YEAR. Use up what you have. 23 TRACK EVERY PENNY. It’s hugely eye-opening consciously reviewing how we are spending money.

24 READ ALL THE BOOKS YOU CAN ON MONEY AND INVESTING. Educate yourself about money and get inspired by others financial successes #debtfreecommunity

25 REWARD YOURSELF. Each time you pay off a debt or succeed at a no-spend month,

create a small reward for yourself (for example - taking your family out for ice cream to celebrate a season of frugality).

26 FIGURE OUT A WAY TO INCREASE YOUR INCOME. Can you take on a second job a

few nights a week for the short term? Can you sell unused items on facebook marketplace, ebay or craigslist?

27 OPEN AN IRA OR ROTH IRA FOR YOU AND YOUR SPOUSE. Contribute as much as you can each year.

28 TAKE ADVANTAGE OF YOUR EMPLOYER’S 401K MATCH if it is an option where you are employed.

29 CONSIDER MEETING WITH A FINANCIAL ADVISOR. I always thought that you

needed LOTS of money to have a financial advisor but meeting with one in the early stages of our marriage and business was hugely helpful in putting together a plan for our financial freedom.

30 LIVE YOUR DREAMS AND GIVE GENEROUSLY.
