Hello and welcome to WikiProject Women in Red (WiR) whose objective is to turn redlinks into blue ones. Our project's scope is women's biographies and women's works. Did you know that according to WHGI only 16.97% of the English Wikipedia's biographies are about women? Not impressed? Content gender gap is a form of systemic bias, and this is what WiR addresses. We invite you to participate whenever you like in whatever way suits you and your schedule. Women in Red warmly welcomes you! |

Women in Red is hosting a virtual editathon from May 1 to 31, 2017, on Women in sports and athletics.
The virtual edit-a-thon allows enthusiasts from around the globe to participate in the work. The main goals of the event are:
- to encourage inexperienced editors and show them how they can contribute to Wikipedia by creating biographies of some of the world's most prominent women
- to draw the attention of more experienced editors to the need for concerted action on a specific area
- to support Wikipedia in combating the systemic bias against the coverage of women and women's works
- to promote the new/improved articles and images through social media (Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter)
The objective is to create or improve articles on women in sports, whether as players, writers, organizations, trophies, or other areas relating to sports and athletics.
Redlists (lists of redlinked articles to be created)
edit
Add other red links here, if possible with a source:
- National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame#Hall of Fame honorees has a bunch of redlinks. Any of these folks should easily prove notable, though for the older ones, finding sources could be a challenge. the list at the HOF has some good clues for people to search, and the list itself hasn't been updated since 2013 or 2014 -- it's missing a lot of redlinks (like this one. - Also, what would it take to generate a list, such as the above, for women in horse racing -- jockeys and trainers. Trainers who should qualify as notable (need to have trained a Grade I winner, see NHORSERACING) but with no article include Linda Rice (top 10 right now), Patricia Farro (in top 50), Kathleen O'Connell, Michelle Nevin and Carla Gaines Equibase is a good database to find the top people in these fields, look for those listed as "Multiple Graded Stakes Winning Trainers" (or jockeys). - How about Equestrians or do we need to name the individual sport? Atsme📞📧 00:19, 29 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
