Meaning of "struma" in the Polish dictionary

Struma, ancient Strymon - a river in western Bulgaria and northern Greece, in the catchment of the Aegean Sea. Length - 415 km, catchment area - 10 797 km², average flow 76,167 m³ / s. Sources of the Strume are at an altitude of 2180 m. on the southern slopes of the Vitosha massif. From there the river flows westward through the Rhodope, crosses the town of Pernik, then turns south and flows through Kiustendil and Blagoevgrad. On the Bulgarian-Greek border, the river breaks through the gorge between Belasica and Slawjanka. In Greece, the Strumy valley widens, the river builds a rather complicated system of branches and supplies the artificial lake of Kerkini. The Struma descends to the Gulf of Tanger. The streams are numerous and small. The biggest ones are Jerman, Strumica and Angitis. In the Bulgarian part of the Struma Valley there is a hard coal basin. In the Greek part of the valley there is intensive farming. Struma, starożytny Strymon – rzeka w zachodniej Bułgarii i w północnej Grecji, w zlewisku Morza Egejskiego. Stamtąd rzeka płynie na zachód przez Rodopy, przecina miasto Pernik, po czym skręca na południe i płynie przez Kiustendił i Błagojewgrad. Na granicy bułgarsko-greckiej rzeka przełamuje się przez wąwóz między masywami Belasicy i Sławjanki. W Grecji dolina Strumy znacznie się poszerza, rzeka buduje dość skomplikowany system odnóg i zasila sztuczne jezioro Kerkini. Struma uchodzi do Zatoki Orfańskiej Morza Trackiego. Dopływy Strumy są liczne i drobne. Największe z nich to Dżerman, Strumica i Angitis. W bułgarskiej części doliny Strumy znajduje się zagłębie węgla kamiennego. W greckiej części doliny prowadzi się intensywne rolnictwo.
