Meaning of "Strumektomie" in the German dictionary

Strumar resection is an operation for the treatment of thyroid enlargement, in which the thyroid gland is removed to a different size. According to the first descriptions of the most frequently used surgical technique today, it is also referred to in the full text as "two-sided subtotal strum resection according to Enderlen-Hotz". The term strumectomy is sometimes used, but factually incorrect, since the removal of a complete organ is understood as an ectomy. The complete removal of the entire thyroid gland is called thyroidectomy, the complete removal of a thyroid hemihyreoidectomy. Die Strumaresektion ist eine Operation zur Behandlung einer Schilddrüsenvergrößerung, bei der die Schilddrüse bis auf einen unterschiedlich großen Rest entfernt wird. Nach den Erstbeschreibern der heute am häufigsten angewendeten Operationstechnik wird sie im vollen Wortlaut auch als „beidseitige subtotale Strumaresektion nach Enderlen-Hotz“ bezeichnet. Gelegentlich gebräuchlich, aber sachlich falsch, ist auch die Bezeichnung Strumektomie, da unter einer Ektomie die Entfernung eines kompletten Organs verstanden wird. Die restlose Entfernung der gesamten Schilddrüse wird Thyreoidektomie genannt, die restlose Entfernung einer Schilddrüsenhälfte Hemithyreoidektomie.
