My name is Tyler Sondag and I am running to represent Subdivision 8 on the Omaha Public Power District Board of Directors. As a licensed professional civil engineer I am running for the OPPD Board to bring a fresh technical perspective to the Board, making decisions based on facts not opinions.

I have spent most of my life in Nebraska, growing up in the Millard School district and graduated from Millard West High School. I am also a three time graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a BS in Civil Engineering, MS in Architectural Engineering, and an MBA. I am currently employed as a project manager and have delivered millions of dollars in infrastructure projects in Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas, and Missouri. As an engineer, I know firsthand about the complexities of engineering projects from both technical and financial perspectives. As technologies continue to change and affect the way our community interacts with the power grid, I know that as a licensed professional civil engineer I am well positioned to make the right decisions that will ensure our energy remains reliable and affordable.

-Tyler Sondag

  • Reliable power is the backbone of our community’s success. Ensuring uninterrupted access to our homes and businesses is essential and my number one goal.
  • Maintaining affordable energy costs is crucial for ensuring rate stability and access to essential power services.
  • Having a mix of power generation sources, including natural gas, wind, solar, coal, etc. ensures energy security. If one source faces disruptions (such as supply shortages, technical issues, or increased fuel costs), other sources can compensate, preventing both widespread power outages and increased energy costs.

One of the most important challenges facing our public utilities is our aging infrastructure. As a professional civil engineer I know firsthand about the importance of maintaining our infrastructure, and how regular maintenance can lead to long term savings.

Making sure that our government maintains financial transparency and our communities have access to voice concerns and work with elected officials is critical for preserving a representative democracy.
