Riverside County, California, held primary elections for county board of supervisors, county assessor-clerk-recorder, county auditor-controller, district attorney, county sheriff-coroner-public administrator, county treasurer-tax collector, county superintendent of schools, county board of education, and superior court judges on June 5, 2018. Whoever received the most votes for the county board of education won the seat outright in the primary. Candidates who received a majority of votes in the primaries for the other seats on the ballot also won outright. Because no candidates received a majority of votes in the primary races for sheriff-coronor-public administrator and the District 2 and 5 seats on the board of supervisors, the top two vote-getters in each race advanced to a general election that was held on November 6, 2018. The filing deadline was March 9, 2018.[1]
Races for Riverside Community College District trustees and Western Municipal Water District seats were also held on November 6, 2018.

There are no Pivot Counties in California. Pivot Counties are counties that voted for Barack Obama (D) in 2008 and 2012 and for Donald Trump (R) in 2016. Altogether, the nation had 206 Pivot Counties, with most being concentrated in upper midwestern and northeastern states.
In the 2016 presidential election, Hillary Clinton (D) won California with 61.7 percent of the vote. Donald Trump (R) received 31.6 percent. In presidential elections between 1900 and 2016, California voted Republican 53.33 percent of the time and Democratic 43.33 percent of the time. In the five presidential elections between 2000 and 2016, California voted Democratic all five times. In 2016, California had 55 electoral votes, which was the most of any state. The 55 electoral votes were 10.2 percent of all 538 available electoral votes and were 20.4 percent of the 270 electoral votes needed to win the election.
