Partisanship in United States municipal elections (2021)

In 2021, 220 seats were up for election across three of the nation's 99 state legislative chambers. As a result of the elections, control of 16 seats (7.3%) flipped from one political party to another.

Democrats lost control of the Virginia House of Delegates, while they maintained their majorities in the New Jersey State Senate and the New Jersey General Assembly. Control of seven seats flipped in Virginia, while the control of the other nine flipped in New Jersey.
