Charlton Reid Beattie
Charlton Reid Beattie (1869-1925) was a federal judge on the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana.
He was nominated by President Calvin Coolidge on January 13, 1925 to replace Rufus Edward Foster. He was confirmed by the Senate on January 19, 1925, and received commission on January 21st. He served until his death on August 23, 1925.[1] Beattie was succeeded in this position by Louis Henry Burns.
Early life and education
Judge Beattie received his undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia in 1889 and his LL.D. degree from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1891.[1]
Professional career
Judge Beattie began his career in 1892 as a private practice lawyer. He worked in this position for his entire career, first in Thibodaux, Louisiana and then in New Orleans (beginning in 1913). From 1909 to 1913, he was a U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Louisiana. He also worked as faculty at the Tulane Law School[1]
