Crackle is adding thirteen more titles to its impressive horror library this June. While some people will use Stage Fright or The Wretched as an excuse to stay inside with the air conditioner on, I have to be different. I have found five movies for this month’s streaming guide that I’m excited to see ASAP. All of them are off the beaten path, and some are new watches for me. As usual with this streamer, the films that caught my attention showcase what sets Crackle apart from the other apps. I have a New Zealand horror comedy, a 1970s slasher, and another Tony Todd sighting alongside other movies that I want to insert into my eyeballs right now.

Dead
A stoner who can see ghosts helps a dead cop find a serial killer. This sounds like the silly kind of fun that I will allow. I also have a soft spot for movies that had the misfortune of getting lost in 2020. It was a rough time for everyone, and I am still discovering films from that year that never got a fair chance. More importantly, though, New Zealand horror comedies are usually a damn good time. I expect a few chuckles and something to do on a Friday night.
Driller Killer
An artist snaps and takes to the streets of New York with a power tool. They had me at 1970s black comedy slasher. The title invoking Slumber Party Massacre imagery does not hurt the cause either. I am willing to bet I know where those ladies got the idea for their driller killer. I am also here for this one because the artist is pushed over the edge partly from the stress of trying to pay rent. Nothing on this Crackle list will be more relatable. Especially as most of us are paying rent as I write this because rent is due!
Honeymoon
A newlywed couple’s honeymoon takes a turn for the strange when the bride is found wandering around and disoriented in the dead of night. Game Of Thrones fans will be happy to see Rose Leslie in something without dragons. I owe this movie a rewatch, and I am glad Crackle seemingly knew that. This movie came up on my podcast when we covered repro horror last month, and I have been meaning to hunt it down for months.
Patchwork (2015)
Two women awake from a night of partying to find they have been sewn together. They set out to get answers and revenge. How am I not supposed to root for a women-led body horror comedy? I also love that our Frankenstein-esque creature is made up of two women this time around. I believe that is a message Mary Shelley would support, and I cannot wait to hit play on this chaotic movie.
Shadow Puppets
Two people wake up in separate cells in an abandoned institution without any prior memories. While trying to escape, they meet six other strangers and must fight off a murderous shadow. You need to know I will hit play on anything Tony Todd is in. He remains the reason for the season, and horror fans are welcome! The Buffy the Vampire Slayer fans might also be interested to know James Marsters is also in the cast. If you are new to this title, I suggest you take advantage of it being on Crackle this month!

Crackle is a free app and website that offers a massive list of movies but boasts an impressive horror library. If you have not checked it out yet, you should fix that immediately.
