According to statistics " road to safety " [1], in a highly populated country like India, the usage of vehicles is rapidly increasing and at the same time people lose their lives because of accidents and poor emergency facilities. Hence, the value of human life is ignored. These lives could have been saved if medical facilities were provided at the right time and if drunk drivers were prohibited from driving. As fuel and vehicle have become even more dearer there is an increasing number of fuel thefts taking place. This project proposes a system which can be installed in any car at a minimal cost, acting as a solution to the mentioned drawbacks. An accelerometer sensor is used to sense the vibrations and tilt generated by the vehicle when it meets with an accident. Using this digital output via the controller an SMS is sent to preprogrammed numbers such as ambulance, police station, family member of the victim etc. indicating that an accident has occurred with a link in the SMS depicting the accident spot via Google map service provider. Alcohol sensor is used to detect alcohol in the breath of the driver, if sensed the vehicle ignition will not turn on. Antitheft system is also included for fuel wherein if theft of either is detected then there will be an SMS sent to the owner indicating a theft occurrence, along with an immediate siren so as to alert the surroundings.

This digital output from the sensor is used by the Arduino Uno controller, which is the heart of the system, to trigger the GSM module to deliver an SMS to preprogramed numbers such as ambulance, police station, family member of the victim etc. indicating that an accident has occurred. The accident location is provided by the global positioning system (GPS), which provides the latitude and longitude of the location, and with this information a link is sent in the SMS depicting the accident spot via Google map service provider.

In this article, a Smart Ping Pong Paddle has been introduced as an example of the use of sensor technology in sports. We have devised an accelerometer and a gyroscope sensor for the analyzing purpose and have gathered motion data of the game object to make a real-time 3D replica of the paddle to get an actual orientation of it. Technical details and principles of how to get the digital motion processing data from sensor to microcontroller and again transfer that wirelessly to a 3D modeling software are examined. Technical details are applied in practice, and the working demo of Smart Ping Pong paddle is built. Also, a couple of examples of other similar applications in the realm of object orientation sensing are overviewed.

A secure, user-convenient approach to authenticate users on their mobile devices is required as current approaches (e.g., PIN or Password) suffer from security and usability issues. Transparent Authentication Systems (TAS) have been introduced to improve the level of security as well as offer continuous and unobtrusive authentication (i.e., user friendly) by using various behavioural biometric techniques. This paper presents the usefulness of using smartwatch motion sensors (i.e., accelerometer and gyroscope) to perform Activity Recognition for the use within a TAS. Whilst previous research in TAS has focused upon its application in computers and mobile devices, little attention is given to the use of wearable devices-which tend to be sensor-rich highly personal technologies. This paper presents a thorough analysis of the current state of the art in transparent and continuous authentication using acceleration and gyroscope sensors and a technology evaluation to determine the basis for such an approach. The best results are average Euclidean distance scores of 5.5 and 11.9 for users' intra acceleration and gyroscope signals respectively and 24.27 and 101.18 for users' inter acceleration and gyroscope activities accordingly. The findings demonstrate that the technology is sufficiently capable and the nature of the signals captured sufficiently discriminative to be useful in performing Activity Recognition.

Motorcycles have a higher rate of fatal accidents than cars or trucks and buses. With the increase in the commonness of motorcycling, the safety of the riders has become an issue. Hence crash guards have become a necessary safety measure for motorcycles. But the crash guards available have a fixed and broad frame, this makes maneuvering through dense traffic difficult. Although subjective, some riders remove crash guards because it affects the motorcycle's appearance. This system proposes varying width crash guards. The crash guard has two modes retracted and extended. The crash guard ideally remains in retracted mode but, if the motorcycle crosses the threshold roll angle, the crash guard extends. Accelerometer sensor is used for sensing the roll angle of the motorcycle and, motors are used to extend and retract the crash guard. This system will prevent the motorcycle from falling on the rider's leg and protect its engine in case of an accident.
