We live in Mina and the trailer we are renting is falling a part. We are interested in Tonopaugh...and we are fine with the isolation. We need a house or mobile home on a big yard with room for a garden, chickens, and room to breathe. My husband is retired. We want to upgrade to a place without broken pipes and mold issues. We have two older dogs. If you have a house or trailer in good condition for rent that would us allow our chickens.....email us at padres46@yahoo.com. We don't smoke or drink. We get along fine with those who do....we just live our life and let others live theirs.

By the way isolation is in the way you look at things. Here is Mina we have less than you have in Tonopaugh. People may drink here but they are all really nice. We have less than 100 people here. I enjoy the peace and quiet of Mina. I like my neighbors and the old timers who have lived here for years. I write for a living. However, there is not much to rent here for an upgrade. We have lots of room but the rental trailer is going down hill quickly. Tonopaugh has more to offer than Mina in businesses and jobs. There are no jobs here other than mining. If you are older mining is not an option. We have no children at home so that makes a big difference in where you live. I just thought I would leave a perspective on the isolation issue. Some people deal with it fine. We don't drink or smoke but get along with most that do here. It also has to do with attitude and seeing the good in people and places. Mina is tiny but people have a good heart here. The VFW here is a great place to have some fun at times. We have been welcomed here and it has been appreciated. I have even grown to appreciate the old broken down buildings. They have personality after you live here awhile. Moving to a tiny community takes time to get your mind and heart around it. I cried when we moved here. The first month I hated it....I missed green trees. I can now honestly say I appreciate the beauty of the area with its mountains and desert. The cold fierce winds are not my favorite but it beats the smog and traffic of the city. I just thought I would offer the view of a woman who hated this area 6 months ago when we first moved here. We spend less money because we shop once a month. We eat less junk food....and fast food. We buy less stuff we don't need. When you must go two hours away to buy it, somehow a lot of things are just not needed. You can walk your dog at dark without being mugged or raped. There are not gangs here. There is little violence or killings. There are advantages to living out in the sticks...if you hate shopping like I do...you are in the right place. Anyway, just to offer an alternate view on living in the area. Jobs are a big problem...and that is true of all small towns.

I spent some time at the air force base in tonopah. Not much else there.
