Disney Will Not Screen 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' Early for Awards Consideration to Keep Spoilers Under Wraps

11 hours ago | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

The Internet will inevitably spoil "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" for those who don't see the movie immediately, but Disney is hoping they can at least contain the purity of experience as far as opening day. Even if it means coming at the cost of acclaim from the awards bodies. The Wrap reports that Disney won't be screening 'The Force Awakens' for contention for National Board Of Review's best films of the year on December 1st. And they are likely to do the same with other organizations handing out their trophies in December including New York Film Critics Circle, the Los Angeles Film Critics Association, and the Screen Actors Guild Awards. And this decision is being made to prevent any story spoilers from leaking out before opening day. Of course, Disney doesn't need to the approval of awards bodies to get audiences to pack 'em in, and they are likely »

Bonnie Curtis and Julie Lynn are producing through their Mockingbird Pictures banner with Elliot Webb co-producing.

The film is based on a short story of the same name by E.L. Doctorow — which is a retelling of a story by Nathaniel Hawthorne, also called “Wakefield” about a man who unexpectedly leaves his wife for an extended period of time.

Cranston revealed the casting on a recent interview on “The Howard Stern Radio Show,” explaining that he will play a married Manhattan lawyer who sees a racoon in the attic of his home and winds up staying in the attic for several months due to a nervous breakdown. He also said his character will become romantically involved with a younger woman at some point in the story.

Forecast: 'Spectre' and 'Peanuts' Hope for Strong Second Weekend Holds

2 hours ago | Box Office Mojo | See recent BoxOfficeMojo.com news »

Spectre's $70.4 million opening last weekend was the seventh largest of 2015 and this weekend it faces little to no incoming competition. The week's new wide releases include the Chilean miner drama The 33, the Christmas-themed family feature Love the Coopers and the period, football drama My All American. Not one of these three new wide releases will be threatening the top two spots at the box office, which means the second weekend of Spectre and The Peanuts Movie draw the majority of our attention. Starting with Spectre, the first instinct is to look to Skyfall's second weekend back in 2012. After a monster opening, Skyfall dropped 53.5% in the face of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2's $141 million opening weekend. Quantum of Solace dropped 60% when it faced off, and took second to, the first Twilight film back in 2008. Twilight, however, isn't exactly direct competition. Taking that into consideration, it would suggest those weekend »

The ‘Van Helsing’ Reboot Finds New Writers

11 hours ago | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

Van Helsing is a bad movie. It’s about as soulless as a popcorn movie gets. Director Stephen Sommers brought some fun to the original Mummy reboot, but he stripped Dracula, the Wolf Man, and Van Helsing of their appeal in his garish film. There’s been talk of a reboot for a few years now, and it was once speculated the film […]

The Richard Pryor Biopic Has The Perfect Actor For Redd Foxx

49 minutes ago | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

Casting actors for biopics, where they will, by necessity, play people who actually exist, or at least existed, is a tricky proposition. Steve Jobs recently proved that you don.t necessarily need to cast someone who looks like the person in question, but they at least have to be able to capture the spirit of the individual. And all things considered, the Richard Pryor biopic that.s been in the work for some time, may have found the perfect person to play legendary comedian Redd Foxx. Foxx was a groundbreaking, not to mention foul mouthed as all hell, comedian most known for his explicit comedy albums and the sitcom Sanford and Sons. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Saturday Night Live and 30 Rock alum Tracy Morgan will play him in the as-yet untitled movie. In a statement, Morgan said: Mr. Foxx, I hope I do you justice! Patricia Arquette got the Academy’s stamp of approval earlier this year, picking up an Oscar for her phenomenal, decade-spanning work in Richard Linklater’s Boyhood. The Big Problem With Air France's Star Wars: The Force Awakens Promotion

1 hour ago | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

Disney has been keeping a tight lid on promotional material for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but now that the release is only a month away, marketing is being kicked to the next level. The past couple months have seen new previews and merchandise being released, and it’s only going to get more hectic over the next couple weeks with more TV spots and the press tour kicking off. Unfortunately for Air France, their contribution to the promotional festivities didn't receive the Disney/Lucasfilm seal of approval. The airline announced on November 2 that they were featuring a "Flight & Cinema” promotion under the Star Wars logo. Costing $1,500-$2,000, this package not only provides a flight from San Francisco, Los Angeles or New York to Paris, France on December 15, but also a ticket to see Star Wars: The Force Awakens at EuropaCorp Cinemas on December 16, »
