Alchemy has bought the U.S. distribution rights to the upcoming thriller “Free Fire,” starring Brie Larson and Armie Hammer.
The deal was closed on Wednesday, the final day of the American Film Market. Martin Scorsese is exec producing.
Ben Wheatley is directing “Free Fire” from a script he co-wrote with Amy Jump. Cillian Murphy, Jack Reynor, Sam Riley, Noah Taylor, Sharlto Copley, Michael Smiley, Enzo Cilenti and Babou Ceesay also star.
The story is set in Boston in the late 1970s. Larson will portray a woman who has brokered a meeting in a warehouse between two Irishmen (Murphy and Smiley) and two gang members (Hammer and Copley) who are selling guns.
Andy Starke and Wheatley are producing through their Rook Films banner. Film4 and BFI have co-financed the film, with Protagonist handing international sales and co-representing the domestic sale with Wme.
