October 2013, Guatemala- On October 10-11, 2013, the U.S. President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR)--including the Office of the Global AIDS Coordinator (OGAC), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Department of Defense (DOD), Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) with additional support from the Foundation for AIDS Research (amfAR), the Global Forum on MSM (MSMGF), and the Pan-American Health Organization (PAHO)--conducted a regional workshop in Guatemala City, Guatemala on HIV Prevention among Men Who Have Sex with Men (MSM) and Transgendered Persons (TG) in Latin America and Caribbean (LAC).
The workshop brought together over 85 participants from 25 countries to advance the discussion of and build upon PEPFAR’s Technical Guidance on Combination HIV Prevention in addition to the latest knowledge on relevant topics in HIV prevention among MSM and TG for community, civil society, practitioners, health service managers, and government. This workshop focused on issues relevant to HIV prevention, care, and treatment among MSM and TG, including fostering an enabling environment in these respective regions.
September 2013, Tanzania- From September 4-5, 2013, the PEPFAR OVC Technical Working Group, with additional support from the USAID/Tanzania and the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare of the Government of Tanzania, conducted a technical workshop in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania on Building Capacity on Post-Rape Care (PRC) for Children and Adolescents. The workshop brought together 52 clinical staff from Tanzania and relevant stakeholders to build country capacity to advance a coordinated post-rape care (PRC) response for children under 18 in Tanzania. This venue also allowed implementers to present country-level experiences and challenges to providing clinical care for children who have experienced sexual violence and exploitation, and identify technical assistance needs and sources to support the development of Tanzanian PRC technical guidelines.
May 2013, Washington, DC- The goal of this two-day technical consultation was to provide a forum for key stakeholders in HIV research, programming, implementation, and evaluation to take stock of important developments in the field and develop strategies to improve communication technology for enhanced HIV services. During the meeting, which was co-sponsored by the U.S. President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, the National Institute of Mental Health, and the American Foundation for AIDS Research, participants shared perspectives, programs, and research from the public and private sectors and learned about programmatic examples from Africa, Asia, Latin America, Europe, Australia, and the United States.
October 2012, Johannesburg, South Africa- This technical exchange brought together Gender Focal Points from PEPFAR country teams and headquarters to provide a technical update on gender and HIV within the context of PEPFAR, and share implementation successes and challenges from a variety of country settings. The exchange provided a forum for fostering collaboration across countries, sharing resources, identifying ongoing needs, and addressing long-term planning. Presentations included an update on progress to date, gender integration, gender and monitoring and evaluation, and panel discussions sharing country experiences.
September 2012, Guatemala - With support from the U.S. President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), through the Latin American and Caribbean Bureau of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), AIDSTAR-One hosted a technical consultation, "Substance Use and HIV Prevention, Care, and Treatment in Latin America," in Antigua, Guatemala from September 18-20, 2012. Other collaborating agencies included the U.N. Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), the Joint United Nations Program on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS), the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMSHA), the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

August 2012, Bangkok, Thailand - From August 28-30, 2012, the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief’s (PEPFAR) most-at-risk populations technical working group, with additional support from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), conducted a regional workshop in Bangkok, Thailand on HIV Prevention among Men Who Have Sex with Men (MSM) and Transgendered Persons (TG) in Asia.
July 2012, Washington, DC - PEPFAR and AIDSTAR-One organized a satellite session at the International AIDS Conference entitled Where the Tide Will Turn: How is Community Level Participation Most Effective in Turning the Tide? The session provided context on community level participation and evidence base from country level examples of community involvement that demonstrated improved HIV outcomes. The session also mobilized a key working group to draft a call to action aimed at increasing the evidence base on community involvement.
PEPFAR Expert Meeting on Post-Rape Care for Children in Primary Health Centers that Provide HIV Care
April 2012, Washington, DC- This meeting, hosted by the PEPFAR Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) and Gender Technical Working Groups, focused on the development of technical considerations for the delivery of post-rape care for persons under the age of 18 in primary health care to inform work in PEPFAR specifically, and, more broadly, the work of other partners and implementers.
February 2012, South Africa - This regional workshop, funded by PEPFAR's most-at-risk populations technical working group and supported by CDC and USAID, brought together 150 participants from 22 African countries to provide a forum to disseminate the 2011 PEPFAR Technical Guidance for Combination Prevention for MSM. This venue also allowed implementers to share state-of-the art knowledge on relevant topics in HIV/AIDS prevention among MSM for practitioners, health service managers, civil society and community.
February 2012, Gabarone, Botswana - The U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief PMTCT/Pediatric Technical Working Group and the United States Agency for International Development’s Africa Bureau hosted a field-driven learning meeting for U.S. government staff and key African partners from February 7-10, 2012, in Gaborone, Botswana. The consultation was held in response to calls from practitioners, government officials, and programmers to share knowledge, experience, and resources on how to best care for the increasing numbers of perinatally infected children surviving to adolescence and adulthood.
December 2011, Ethiopia - At the 16th International Conference on AIDS and STIs in Africa (ICASA), PEPFAR, UNAIDS, and WHO collaborated on several key events in support of VMMC for HIV prevention, including a joint PEPFAR/UNAIDS/WHO meeting on accelerating scale-up; a PEPFAR/UNAIDS satellite session on the cost, impact and challenges of accelerated scale-up; and a press conference to launch the five-year action framework for accelerated access to VMMC.
November 2011, Ethiopia - This field-driven learning technical consultation—hosted by the PEPFAR Technical Working Groups (TWGs) for Care and Support, PMTCT, Pediatric Treatment, OVC, and Nutrition—focused on sharing promising practices and approaches to integrating services along the continuum of care for mothers, infants, and young children.
June 2011, Washington, DC - Together with partners from United Nations Joint Programme on HIV/AIDS, the World Health Organization, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and the Ministries of Health of Swaziland, Botswana, and South Africa, the Male Circumcision Technical Working Group for PEPFAR premiered a short film on voluntary medical male circumcision (VMMC) for HIV prevention at the National Press Club.

April 2011, Thailand - AIDSTAR-One organized this technical consultation to present and review the use of HIV rapid tests, focusing on program successes, challenges, and barriers.

April 2011, Namibia - More than 80 participants representing fourteen countries joined multilateral donors and organizations to share approaches to alcohol-related HIV prevention programs in Eastern and Southern Africa.
March 2011, Washington, DC - Participants at this meeting shared FP/HIV/MNCH integration experiences, identified research priorities for expanding the evidence base, outlined facilitating factors for integration and circumstances under which integration is likely to maximize outcomes, and discussed strategies for strengthening integration policies and translating research findings into practice.

March 2011, Caribbean - This summit provided a forum for participants to discuss HIV programming for most-at-risk populations and other vulnerable populations in the Caribbean region.
February 2011, Ghana - Seventy participants from 11 countries with mixed epidemics in sub-Saharan Africa, members of the PEPFAR Technical Working Groups (TWGs), and participants from other multilateral or partner organizations participated in this technical consultation to share promising practices for resource allocation and HIV prevention programming within mixed epidemics.
November 2010, Mozambique - Responding to substantial demand for discussion around linkages to and retention in HIV care, AIDSTAR-One and the PEPFAR HIV Care and Support Technical Working Group coordinated this consultation for participants to address opportunities and challenges, share emerging practices, and identify country-specific next steps for strengthening linkage and retention in key services.
September 2010, South Africa - This three-day meeting brought together 117 health professionals from 14 countries in Eastern and Southern Africa and international experts from Europe and North America to advance knowledge and to share promising experiences and communication materials for adolescent and adult voluntary medical male circumcision in three key areas: demand creation, client counseling, and advocacy.
May 2010, Washington, DC - At this consultation, country delegates along with invited research, program, and gender-based violence experts, exchanged recent research findings, promising practices, and emerging approaches.
May 2010, Dominican Republic - This technical consultation addressed maintaining and increasing access to quality antiretroviral therapy (ART) services in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC).
December 2009, Guatemala - The purpose of the meeting was to share evidence and program experiences to inform policies, develop effective strategies, and improve HIV programming for most-at-risk populations (MARPs) in Latin America.
November 2009, Kenya - AIDSTAR-One, in collaboration with the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) Technical Working Group on Counseling and Testing, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), convened a technical consultation to identify key features of HBHTC programs, challenges and strategic approaches, lessons learned, and suggestions for new and ongoing HBHTC programs.
October 2009, South Africa - This technical consultation focused on strategies to support the expansion of gender integration into United States Government programs.

February 2009, India - This meeting centered on a discussion of essential program dimensions that must be part of any effort to reach MARPS, including: measurement approaches, enabling environment, capacity building, a minimum package of prevention services, scaling-up the coverage, quality and intensity of prevention activities and monitoring and evaluation.

October 2008, Washington, DC - This technical consultation on multiple and concurrent sexual partnerships (MCP) convened researchers, US Government representatives, and program implementers to address the role of MCP in fueling the HIV/AIDS epidemics of Southern Africa.
