The Tutorial Project was able to gain support from Baltimore City Public Schools, local Community Action Centers, private donations, and university funding. But in order to cover the costs of the array of volunteer initiatives under the Office of the Chaplain, students also dedicated many hours to fundraising. By day, the second floor of Levering was an administrative hub, but on Friday and Saturday nights this transformed into “Chester’s Place” (named after the University Chaplain, Chester Wickwire). Students would gather for drinks and live music at this student-run café. Any revenue fundraised from sales were donated to the Office of the Chaplain and its efforts.
