Category:Gay men by nationality[change source]
- Category:Gay men by nationality (edit · talk · history · links · watch · logs · delete)
- Category:American lesbians (edit · talk · history · links · watch · logs · delete)
- Category:American bisexual people (edit · talk · history · links · watch · logs · delete)
Osiris has nominated these pages for deletion for the reason: Overcategorisation, for the same reasons as given on the English Wikipedia. Upmerging all entries into the corresponding subcategories of Category:LGBT people by nationality (plus Category:Gay men, Category:Lesbians and Category:Bisexual people) will be sufficient for our purposes. Osiris (talk) 08:03, 3 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I am nominating this category along with all of its subcategories, which I will list here:
- Category:American gay men
- Category:British gay men
- Category:English gay men
- Category:Canadian gay men
- Category:French gay men
- Category:German gay men
- Category:Russian gay men
- Category:Gay African Americans
- Comment: I've just found Category:British bisexual people, I missed it when making the nomination. I'll leave it to the closing administrator to decide what to do. If these categories are deleted, I don't mind starting a procedural nomination for the leftover. Osiris (talk) 09:38, 6 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Please discuss this request below, but keep in mind that you shouldn't vote on everything and that there may be options other than "keep" or "delete", such as merging.
Discussion[change source]
- Keep I'm fine with it, including all the "French gays" subcats. Just my 2 cents, it's good to be specific and nah, this isn't overly specific/detailed. (✉→Arctic Kangaroo←✎) 09:09, 3 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- Delete. Most of us were quite happy with a simple Category:LGBT people by nationality. Together with Category:Gay men, Category:Lesbians and Category:Bisexual people we have all the information that is neeeded. We do not need to have every single permutation as a separate category. Delete as over-categorisation. Macdonald-ross (talk) 09:57, 3 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- Delete. Unnecessary categorisation and the up-merging will be sufficent. Beefball Talk 16:39, 3 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- Delete - Mac says it all. --Peterdownunder (talk) 06:24, 4 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- Delete: Over-Categorization. Enfcer (talk) 17:36, 4 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- Keep: There are major differences in how LGBT people are treated depending on culture/nationality/ethnicity/religion. There is also a difference between how bisexuality is viewed compared to homosexuality - many people, including some gays, say that bisexuality doesn't really exist. Some say that all self-identified bisexuals are merely confused or only coming halfway out of the closet. There is a gender difference in that young attractive female bisexuals tend to be regarded as 'hot', (for example Megan Fox, whose popularity has increased due to coming out) whereas bisexual men are often viewed negatively, for example Michael Barrymore. - And subjects will still be separated in their own sexuality and nationality categories. We're just proposing to get rid of one rung of the ladder. How does a three-fold category (two of which come under WP:EGRS, gender and sexuality) help readers of the Simple English Wikipedia? We want a simpler category structure than the English Wikipedia, yet even the English Wikipedia has decided this is too much. So how is it beneficial for us? On the contrary, I think it actually makes entries more difficult to find. Osiris (talk) 10:08, 6 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
