ओड़िशा-प्रदेशस्‍य राजधानी । इयं मन्दिर-मालिनी नगरी इति सुविदिता । अस्याः पूर्व-दिशायां विश्‍व-प्रसिद्धं कोणार्क-मन्दिरं विराजते । पुरी-स्थितं श्रीजगन्नाथ-मन्दिरं सर्वजन-परिचितम् ।

It is sometimes called the Temple City because of the numerous 17th and 18th century temples that can be found throughout the city. To the east are the famous Sun temple of Konark and the Jagannath temple of Puri.
