Abstract

A gel (I) for protection against insects comprises (by weight) (a) 0.5-2% carbomer, (b) 2-4 % polyoxyethylene hydrogenated castor oil, (c) 30-50% denatured ethanol suitable for cosmetic use, (d) 0.5-2% citronella essential oil, (e) 0.5-2% geranium essential oil, (f) perfume (as required), (g) 0.2-1.5% triethanolamine and (h) water to 100%. An Independent claim is also included for the preparation of (I), comprises: (i) introducing the water (h) into a mixer; (ii) adding (a) under stirring; (iii) homogenizing to give a clear solution; (iv) adding (b) under continued stirring; (v) adding (c), (d) (e) and (f) under stirring; (vi) adding (g); and (vii) mixing thoroughly.

  The present invention relates to a protective gel formulation of the person from insect bites (mosquitoes, wasps, etc.). It is based on natural elements deriving from plants and flowers such as geranium and lemongrass. The formula, based on the aforementioned essential oils, protects naturally, leaving the skin pleasantly perfumed.



  Unlike the insect-repellent products that have so far found widespread application, which are based on traditional insect-repellent formulations having an unpleasant smell and a more or less high content of DEET and whose effectiveness is due almost exclusively to chemical or pharmaceutical components, the applicant developed the product covered by this application based on natural elements, such as essential oils of geranium and lemongrass.



  The formula based on essential oils of geranium and lemongrass, which ensures an effective repellent effect, the action of which has been scientifically tested in independent laboratories with rigorous criteria, leaves the skin pleasantly perfumed for several hours and is particularly suitable for sensitive skin and for the delicate skin of children. The gel product ensures a non-greasy formulation, allows rapid absorption and is ideal for the face and for application on specific areas.



  The individual essences used have been indicated by the name under which they are widely known both by the manufacturing companies and by all those skilled in the art.

 Processing method
 



  - (A) Dissolve utrez 10 in the demineralized water, under vigorous stirring. Before proceeding with the processing, make sure that the polymer is perfectly dissolved and the solution is free of lumps.



  - (B) Apart from dissolving essential oils and perfume in alcohol. In this solution, carefully disperse the cremophor.



  - Add the alcoholic solution B to the aqueous solution A under stirring.



  - Add the triethanolamine slowly, mixing carefully until a homogeneous opal gel is obtained.
