Legislative Priorities

Agriculture is the cornerstone of Ventura County’s economy, supporting thousands of jobs throughout our region. It is also a proud part of our heritage, giving our community its unique beauty. In Congress, I have worked hard to support our farmers, farmworkers, and businesses that help feed the nation.

We have a sacred responsibility to those who have served our country in uniform. As a daughter, sister, and niece of veterans, I take no responsibility more personally and seriously. When I came to Congress, the very first committee I asked to serve on was the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee. Both here in Ventura County and at the national level, I have made it my priority to put our nation’s veterans first. That means helping our servicemembers transition back into civilian life and caring for our veterans by ensuring they all receive the timely, high-quality healthcare and benefits they have earned and deserve. It also means tackling veterans homelessness and unemployment and addressing high suicide rates that continue to plague our nation’s heroes. Finally, as more and more women join our Armed Forces and return home after their service, I’ve made it a special focus to ensure that the VA is prepared for the changing veteran demographics. Women represent the fastest-growing veteran population and the VA needs to adapt to meet their needs. That means making sure the VA offers gender-specific healthcare, addressing the unique circumstances leading to female veteran suicide, and providing critical wrap-around services like job-training, child care, and caregiver assistance. It’s long past time to recognize the contributions that all veterans, female and male, have made to our great nation.

We must invest in our nation’s infrastructure including our airports, roads, bridges, and waterways that are vital to the movement of people and goods across our country. As a member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, I have been working to address the infrastructure challenges facing Ventura County and the nation.

As Ventura County’s Representative in Congress, I view everything I do through the lens of how it will create jobs and grow our economy. From our ports, to our large and small businesses, to our naval base, to our agricultural community, I strive to advance federal policy that will support our diverse job creators.

The 26th District

The district includes most of Ventura County and a portion of Los Angeles County, including the cities of Oxnard, Santa Paula, Fillmore, Camarillo, Newbury Park, Moorpark, Thousand Oaks, Simi Valley, Westlake Village, Agoura Hills, and Calabasas. If you are interested in browsing district-specific population statistics, you can look up Census data for the 26th District. I am honored to serve the residents of the 26th Congressional District of California.

As we head into Father’s Day weekend, I want to highlight the incredible work that Migrant and Seasonal Head Start Association is doing to strengthen the bonds between fathers and father figures who are farmworkers and their children in #VenturaCounty.

Typically working long hours, ...living in rural areas, and traveling the country to meet seasonal agricultural demands, these hardworking fathers don’t regularly get to see their children. Through a new educational initiative across California, migrant workers are provided with the tools to write a letter to their children, which they read while at Head Start!

Not only do these letters from their fathers carry messages about their days in the fields, orchards, and packhouses, but these letters are filled with words of encouragement and lots of love! ❤️❤️❤️

Bump stocks enable semi-automatics to mimic the rapid-firing capability of automatic weapons, essentially turning these weapons into machine guns.

Today’s reckless and dangerous decision puts the lives of Americans in danger, in order to cater to the demands of the NRA and extreme MAGA ...Republicans.

Before one more innocent life is lost to the scourge of gun violence in this country, Congress must come together to pass common-sense gun safety legislation including the Closing the Bump Stock Loophole Act.

Supreme Court strikes down Trump-era ban on rapid-fire rifle bump stocks, reopening political fight

A Texas gun shop owner challenged the ban, arguing the Justice Department wrongly classified the accessories as illegal machine guns.

Funding our military to ensure its strategic readiness, to build and maintain our Armed Forces’ capabilities, to meet our global defense challenges, to support our service personnel and their families, as well as strengthen our ability to defend our country and democracy is typically a bipartisan... exercise due to the extraordinary weight of this bill.

I voted against the House version of the FY2025 NDAA, because I could not stand idly by while Republicans included dangerous provisions that demean and degrade our servicemembers and attack not only reproductive health care, but also make a pronounced assault on diversity and equality, in an effort to turn back the clock to a time when our military – and much of American society – was closed to women, LGBTQ people, and people of color.

#ICYMI: Yesterday, the House adopted my amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act to provide an additional $20 million for the C-130 modular airborne firefighting system (MAFFS), which is the remaining amount necessary to complete acquisition of the new, improved iMAFFS system for the ...four MAFFS units across the country, including the 146th Airlift Wing at Channel Islands Air National Guard Station.

The 146th is a critical asset for wildfire fighting in our state, and I have been working for many years to ensure these MAFFS units get the upgraded systems, which will help fight wildfires not only in California but throughout the country.

In a horrific attack against the LGBTQ community eight years ago, 49 innocent lives were lost at Pulse Nightclub in Orlando.

All people deserve to live authentically and without fear of violence. As a member of the Congressional Equality Caucus, I join the LGBTQ community in remembering ...the victims, their families, and loves ones, and I remain committed to standing up to bigotry and hatred and ending the epidemic of violence against LGBTQ people.

Women have served in our military since the Revolutionary War, and they have played invaluable roles in the defense of our country.

On Women Veterans Recognition Day, we recognize the more than two million women who have served our nation in uniform, and we honor their service in ...protecting our founding ideals of freedom and democracy. On this day which marks the signing of the Women's Armed Services Integration Act in 1948, let us reaffirm our commitment to work towards true equity for our nation’s women veterans and ensure they receive the care, benefits, and services they have earned and deserve.

Overseeing the operations of a mission-critical naval base with over 4,000 active-duty military personnel, 24,000 civilians, and 110 tenant commands is hard work!

On Friday, I was proud to welcome to Capt. Daniel “DB” Brown as Naval Base Ventura County’s new commanding officer. At ...this critical juncture in NBVC’s history of defending our nation at home and around the world, I am confident that Capt. Brown is the right person for the job.

As we applaud Capt. Brown for this distinguished honor, I would like to recognize Capt. Robert “Barr” Kimnach’s outstanding leadership and steadfast service over the years. Capt. Kimnach, thank you for carrying out the mission of the U.S. Navy here in Ventura County and throughout the region. Fair winds and following seas to you and your family!
