Modern paradigm of Software Defined Networking (SDN) inspired researchers to solve many of the network and security challenges in crucial fields such as the Smart Grids. However, integrating SDN within Smart Grid context raised many challenges in terms of network and security management such as the optimal design of SDN controller's placement. Recent researches proposed the Controller Placement Problem (CPP) to determine the optimal number and locations of SDN controllers in extremely wide area networks. In this paper, we present a solution to the CPP problem within Smart Grid context. Our simulation results demonstrate the optimal SDN controller(s) placement considering the preferred metrics and the trade-off computation between these metrics.

In this paper we address the problem of Community Question Answering (CQA) for Arabic language. We mainly explore the direction of combining both lexical and semantic features for enhancing the retrieval task of possible answers to a posted question. We show a comprehensive evaluation on the SEMEval2017 CQA dataset for Arabic language. Our Mean Average Precision (MAP) achieves 62.85% when using a supervised machine learning approach (linear SVM). We outperformed best reported results on such dataset. This is achieved by defining a mix of word embedding, latent semantic similarity features and other lexical similarity features.

ABSTRACT Objectives To assess the efficacy and safety of high-dose tranexamic acid (TXA) during bipolar transurethral resection of the prostate (B-TURP) in patients with large prostates compared to placebo. Patients and methods From February 2018 to May 2020, 204 patients with enlarged prostates of 80–130 g and in need of surgical intervention were randomised into two groups. Patients in Group A underwent B-TURP and received TXA as an intravenous loading dose of 50 mg/kg over 20 min before induction of anaesthesia followed by a maintenance infusion of 5 mg/kg/h until resection was completed. The patients in Group B (placebo) received a saline infusion of a similar volume. Results There was highly significant drop in haemoglobin in the placebo group at 4- and 24-h postoperatively compared with the TXA group (P < 0.001). However, there was no significant difference in the blood transfusion rate between the two groups with five patients (5.5%) in the placebo group and four (4.2%) in the TXA group requiring a transfusion (P = 0.74). The procedural time was significantly less in the TXA group vs the control group, at a mean (SD) of 79.93 (22.18) vs 90.91 (21.4) min (P = 0.001). Also, the intraoperative irrigation fluid volume and postoperative irrigation duration were significantly less in the TXA group vs the control group, at a mean (SD) of 19.21 (3.13) vs 23.05 (3.8) L and 14.75 (5.15) vs 18.33 (5.96) h, respectively (P = 0.001). Catheterisation and hospital stay durations were comparable between both groups (P = 0.384 and P = 0.388, respectively). No complications were recorded with use of high-dose TXA. Conclusion High-dose TXA was effective in controlling blood loss during B-TURP in patients with large prostates, with no adverse drug reactions.

Abstract This study focused on the genotyping of A. hydrophila isolated from diseased Nile tilapia, virulence genes, and their relation with motile aeromonad septicemia (MAS) clinical signs, and the resistance profile of the recovered isolates to the frequently used antimicrobials in aquaculture. We determined the prevalence of A. hydrophila and the associated mortality in fish in various farms. We also investigated the extent of homogeneity of isolates sampled from various aquaculture farms and fish organs and how these variables would drive A. hydrophila heterogeneity to help developing control strategies against this infection. Of the 41 Aeromonas isolates recovered from diseased fish in four aquaculture fish farms (faced 35–50% mortality rates) located at different geographical regions in Egypt, 39 (39%) were confirmed by 16S rDNA-PCR amplification. Five distinct patterns were found for the distribution of virulence genes among 41% of A. hydrophila isolates. Thirteen isolates (33.33%) were positive for aer gene; 9 (23.1%) harbored lip gene, 2 (5.13%) carried hlyA gene, and one isolate (2.56%) was positive for ast gene. A positive correlation was found between hlyA and ast, and between lip and aer genes (r = 0.6 and 0.5, respectively). All isolates were resistant to ampicillin and amoxicillin. The least resistance was noted for doxycycline and gentamicin (7.7%) followed by streptomycin (10.3%), trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole (17.9%), chloramphenicol (25.6%), colistin (43.6%), and erythromycin (47.7%). Most isolates were susceptible to ciprofloxacin. Multiple antimicrobial resistance index values ranged from 0·2–0·6 among MDR isolates (87·2%). Enterobacterial repetitive intergenic consensus (ERIC)-PCR allowed differentiating A. hydrophila isolates into 3 ERIC clusters, each contained isolates belonging to different farms and organs. The fingerprinting profiles of isolates were diverse without any obvious regional or organ-specific isolates. Our results indicated that sampling localities and sampled organs differ, albeit none substantially, in terms of the respective isolates heterogeneity. In conclusion, the high prevalence of A. hydrophila in Nile tilapia and its diverse antimicrobial resistance and virulence profile suggest the increased risk of this infection and raise concerns about its public health importance. The prudent use of antibiotics in the fish industry is now becoming mandatory to avoid the great losses in aquaculture due to MDR A. hydrophila. Our study also indicated the importance of ERIC genotyping for the analysis of A. hydrophila diversity during future molecular epidemiology investigations.

Mine detection techniques require extremely high detection rates. In this paper, signal processing algorithm is introduced to be applied in the ground penetrating radar (GPR) which is more suitable for this application. In GPR microwave signals penetrate into the ground until a buried object reflects them back and the reflected signals are processed in order to extract information about the target. The proposed algorithm generates complex range profiles by applying Inverse Fast Fourier Transform (IFFT) and corrects phase shift due to the system delay. Afterwards in order to improve resolution, synthetic aperture radar (SAR) processing is applied and SAR matrix is formed as GPR moves to the next position. The results obtained show that this algorithm has overcome the problem of the strong reflected signals from the ground and also the other unwanted signals and clutter Keywords—GPR; Landmines; IFFT; SAR processing

Background: Extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) is one of the most used modalities in treatment of renal stones, but its effectiveness can be influenced by many factors related to the patient or the stone itself which may affect the success of stone disintegration. The aim of our study was to investigate the predictive value of some patient and stone-related factors for ESWL success for renal stones. Methods: A total of 100 patients with single radiopaque renal stone 10–20 mm in diameter, undergoing ESWL were enrolled in this study. All patients had non contrast computed tomography (NCCT) done before ESWL. We evaluated body mass index (BMI), skin-to-stone distance (SSD), stone size and Hounsfield density comparing these values between stone free (SF) and residual stone (RS) groups. Results: Of the 100 patients, 70% had successful disintegration. There was no significant difference between stone free (SF) and residual stone (RS) groups as regard age or BMI. Meanwhile, there ...

Tarlov cysts, also known as perineural or sacral nerve root cysts, are cerebrospinal fluid-filled dilatations of the nerve root sheath most commonly found at the sacral spine, near the dorsal root ganglion. The cysts are relatively rare and usually asymptomatic, but some can exert pressure on the nerve root, causing perineal pain/discomfort or lower back pain or sphincter/sexual dysfunction. Tarlov (perineural) cysts of the nerve roots were first described in 1938.

The object of this study is to determine the effect of tibial rotations on the three-dimensional patello-femoral motions and contact areas during a physiological loading condition, the knee-extension exercise. A commercially available device, the 3-SPACE digitizer and tracker system, was used to collect the motion data, utilizing cadaveric human lower limbs as well as the geometric measurements describing the articular surfaces at the patello-femoral joint. It was found that tibial rotations caused statistically significant differences, at the 0.05 level, in patellar tilt, patellar rotation and patellar medial-lateral shift. It was also found that while the magnitude of the total contact area at a given knee flexion angle did not change significantly with tibial rotations, medial and lateral components of the total contact areas were affected by tibial rotations. Medical femoral contact areas increased with internal tibial rotations at all flexion angles; lateral femoral contact areas increased with external tibial rotations at all flexion angles. This correlates well with the kinematic data since it was found that the patella shifted medially with internal tibial rotations at all flexion angles, and titled more medially near full-extension causing an increase in the medial contact areas and a decrease in the lateral contact areas.

Laboratory studies show the existence of some strains of bacteria in field crude oils and formation waters. This work is concerned with studying the effect of the reservoir conditions such as temperature, salinity and lithology on the indigenous bacterial activities. Such study is an original contribution to the knowledge of microbial enhanced oil recovery (MEOR). Egyptian MEOR project at Cairo University succeeded to isolate a surfactant-producing microorganism "Pseudomonas Aeruginosa" from crude oil produced from an Egyptian oil field. Several displacement tests were conducted in sand pack model. A modified media was used to incubate and improve the growth rate, behavior and stimulation of Pseudomonas Aeruginosa. The results obtained from the current work showed that Pseudomonas Aeruginosa succeeded to increase the oil recovery by 20%. Pseudomonas Aeruginosa becomes able to resist the effect of temperature up to 70°C and salinity up to 150,000 ppm, when a specific incubation technique is applied. There is no significant effect on the behavior of the bacteria in the presence of the Dolomite and Kailinite inside the reservoir. The value of the oil recovery factor in case of incubation of the bacteria outside the model is greater than its value in case of incubation inside the model by about 5%. The results obtained are discussed and analyzed in terms of surface tension, hydrogen ion concentrations, viscosity, and conductivity of the effluent solutions.

Issaran was discovered on 1981 and the cumulative production up to 1998 was 0.7 MMbbls from 9 wells and the total reserve were 5 MMbbls from 500 MMbbls as original oil in place which result in a recovery factor less than 1% and reflect the big challenge to produce this field. The problem was that each reservoir has its own characteristic, which requires special approach to overcome its problems and optimize its production and reserves. As Zeit Formation contain massive sand, Upper and Lower dolomite due to its shallow depth the oil could not be produced as cold production, Gahrandal formation is consisted of three limestone bodies with permeability below 20 md and the last one is Nukhul zone which give some cold oil production due to its naturally heavy fracture. Theses difference characterization lead to apply different ways of reservoir management for each zone. The challenge of Scimitar is to produce these zones and reach to a production plateau in spite of the aging of the fields ...

The Issaran field, situated in the Egyptian Eastern Desert, is one of the few heavy oil fractured carbonate reservoirs in the world (Refs.1 to 3). Oil production and recovery from such fractured heavy oil carbonate reservoirs is generally lower than conventional reservoirs, with primary recovery being as low as 1% in some cases, with ultimate recovery generally being lower than 30%, as per studies.Issaran is estimated to contain 700 MMBBLS of 10–12 degree API heavy and highly viscous crude in 3 main reservoirs. These are the Upper and Lower Dolomite reservoirs and the deeper Nukhul (fractured Dolomite) reservoir. The field produced 5000 STBOPD in 2008 and is forecasted to produce 8500 STBOPD in 2009 after further development. A Cyclic Steam Stimulation (CSS) program was started in the field in 2006.Scimitar planned to develop the Nukhul formation with cold production in vertical open-hole well completions, as the initial wells gave high liquid rates, possibly due to the high fractur...

The first production log in heavy oil in Egypt through y-tool, using a high capacity ESP pump, in an open hole completion was performed recently by Scimitar Production Company in Issaran heavy oil field. The objective of the job was to identify the source of water, evaluate the contributions from the different open hole zones and determine whether or not there is cross flow in this fractured heavy oil carbonate reservoir. These wells had originally not been completed with y-tool. Therefore a special y-tool with high capacity ESP was designed especially for Scimitar by Zenith to be able to log the wells under special dynamic conditions. This was the first application world wide of this y-tool, which was used as a temporary completion in the wells.Production logging (PL) was successfully carried out in 3 Issaran wells at different rates, to identify the high permeability (super-K) layers dominating production and calculate their pressure/PI. Likewise flow profiles were determined and ...
