National Championship Summary13099449

Johns Hopkins has won a total of 57 national team championships since the school fielded its first intercollegiate athletic team in 1882. Of the 57, 44 have been won by the Blue Jay men's lacrosse team, while eight belong to the women's cross country team, three belong to the men's swimming team and one has been captured by the volleyball and women's soccer teams.

The women's cross country team claims eight of the last 10 national championships for Johns Hopkins as the Blue Jays took home the walnut & bronze in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2019, 2021 and 2022 (the 2020 championship was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic). Hopkins won its eighth national title in 10 years in 2022.

Have a Day - JHU Wins Two Titles in One Day
Johns Hopkins won two national championships on November 23, 2019 as the women's cross country team claimed its sixth national title during the day in Louisville, Kentucky and the volleyball team swept Emory to claim the program's first championship later than evening in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Men's Lacrosse Claims 44 National Titles, Nine NCAA Crowns
The record of success of the Johns Hopkins men's lacrosse team is as impressive as it is long. The Blue Jays won six ILA National Championships between 1891 and 1903 before taking 29 USILA Championships from 1929 through 1970.

The NCAA began sponsoring the men's lacrosse championship in 1971 and Johns Hopkins has since won nine national championships under the NCAA's banner. In 1978 and 1979, Johns Hopkins won the NCAA championship in men's swimming in the winter and added an NCAA title in men's lacrosse in the spring.

Many Contenders For National Titles
While only men's lacrosse, men's swimming, women's cross country and volleyball have won that elusive title, Johns Hopkins is a regular contender for the national championship in several sports. Since 1990, the Blue Jay football, baseball, men's soccer, women's lacrosse, women's soccer, men's swimming, women's swimming, women's cross country, men's cross country, men's tennis, women's tennis, field hockey and volleyball teams have all finished in the top eight in the nation.
