Tokyo’s upscale Ginza shopping district just became even more stylish with the opening of one of the city’s hottest new hotels, The Tokyo EDITION, Ginza. 

Why go?

In the upscale district of Ginza, The Tokyo EDITION, Ginza opened a few months ago and is fast emerging as one of Tokyo’s most sought-after addresses. A collaboration between Marriott’s luxury lifestyle brand EDITION and renowned hotelier and Studio 54 co-founder Ian Schrager, along with Tokyo-based architect Kengo Kuma, this second venture in Japan comes after the success of The Tokyo EDITION, Toranomon. 

Located just steps away from luxury boutiques like Hermès and Louis Vuitton, The Tokyo EDITION, Ginza artfully blends traditional Japanese culture with EDITION’s avant-garde vision. It offers 86 sophisticated rooms and suites, a modern all-day dining brasserie, and unique bar concepts such as Japan’s first punch-focused cocktail bar and Ginza’s first natural wine bar. 

Who comes here?

Much like EDITION hotels worldwide, this property caters to trendsetters, offering understated luxury with room prices starting at around USD 750 per night, which can increase significantly during peak seasons such as Japan’s cherry blossom bloom. Guests can expect a sense of exclusivity, privacy, and tranquillity along with exceptional service and personal touches throughout their stay. 

The rooms

Hallways are lined with only a few rooms on each floor, creating a sense of exclusivity. The rooms are contemporary and luxurious, with a minimalist design combining warm walnut accents, clean white textiles, and creamy leather. The beds are adorned with white faux fur throws, and framed modern monochrome photography hangs on the walls. The bathrooms exude a sultry glamour with dark green marble, chrome fixtures, and circular mirrors. The windows offer stunning views of Ginza, and even the smallest rooms feel spacious. The hotel features suites with deluxe living areas and standalone white bathtubs, and the Penthouse Suite on the 13th floor is the epitome of luxury with its wood-wrapped dining and living spaces.

What’s on the menu?

Mornings start with nourishing breakfasts at SOPHIE, an all-day dining restaurant on the 14th floor. Think classics such as Avocado and Scrambled Egg Tartine, Matcha French Toast with red bean puree and whipped cream, or delicate and flakey Croissants. Lunch continues with wholesome tarte flambee with creme fraiche, gruyère, bacon, Tokyo Miso Chicken Paillard with green salad and fresh herbs.

Dinner is a sophisticated affair with options including Bouillabaisse, the freshest catch of the day, and roasted blue lobster cooked in saffron dashi broth. Alternatively, there is the option of Roasted Whole Chicken for two, served with herb-roasted potatoes and seasonal vegetables. For dessert, indulge in Sophie’s extravagant Strawberries and cream Layer Cake. To complement the meal, a cocktail menu changes with the seasons.

And drinks?

As Ginza’s first natural wine bar, The Roof offers a selection of biodynamic champagnes, unique orange wines, and refreshing cocktails made with local wines and spirits. Downstairs, the Punch Room offers a unique bar concept with a Japanese twist. The menu features Japanese-inspired punch recipes incorporating sake and ryokucha tea. Enjoy your drinks in silver punch bowls with matching ladles, adding to the distinctive experience.

Final thoughts

From gestures such as remembering guest names to a handwritten welcome card and daily in-room sweet treats, the service at The Tokyo EDITION, Ginza, was exceptional.  The rooms offer a sense of familiar luxury and the location is unmatched. We’d stay again in a heartbeat.
