Theis and the Pelicans agreed to a one-year deal Monday, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reports. Theis will be entering his eighth NBA season and will bring valuable veteran leadership to the locker room. With the Pelicans losing Jonas Valanciunas, Theis could potentially step into a sizable role right away in the frontcourt. Throughout his career, Theis holds averages of 7.4 points, 4.8 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 0.9 blocks.

Latest Pelicans News
Daniel Theis : Joining the Pelicans
Theis and the Pelicans agreed to a one-year deal Monday, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reports. Theis will be entering his eighth NBA season and will bring valuable veteran leadership to the locker room. With the Pelicans losing Jonas Valanciunas, Theis could potentially step into a sizable role right away in the frontcourt. Throughout his career, Theis holds averages of 7.4 points, 4.8 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 0.9 blocks.
Naji Marshall : Signs three-year deal with Dallas
Marshall has agreed to a three-year, $27 million deal with the Mavericks, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports. Marshall has spent all four years of his career with the Pelicans, but he will now be joining the Mavericks, who look to gear up for another deep run. The 26-year-old pro averaged 7.1 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.9 assists in 19.0 minutes per game across 66 appearances last season. Marshall could hold a sizable role next year since Derrick Jones has elected to sign with the Clippers.
Dejounte Murray : Dealt to New Orleans
The Hawks traded Murray to the Pelicans in exchange for two first-round picks, Dyson Daniels and Larry Nance on Friday, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports. Murray averaged a career-high 22.5 points, along with 6.4 assists, 5.3 rebounds and 1.4 steals in 35.7 minutes across 78 games in 2023-24. However, his fit alongside Trae Young was troubling, especially on the defensive end, as the Hawks finished with a 36-46 record. In New Orleans, Murray will likely compete for a starting job in the backcourt with CJ McCollum and Brandon Ingram.
Jeremiah Robinson-Earl : Team option picked up
The Pelicans are picking up Robinson-Earl's $2.2 million team option for 2024-25, Christian Clark of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reported Friday. After two campaigns in Oklahoma City, Robinson-Earl joined the Pelicans last season and made 39 regular-season appearances (one start). He averaged 2.9 points and 1.9 rebounds in 8.6 minutes per game. Robinson-Earl will presumably be an end-of-bench frontcourt option again next season.
Jose Alvarado : Sticks in New Orleans
The Pelicans are picking up Alvarado's $1.99 million team option for 2024-25, Christian Clark of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reported Friday. An undrafted point guard out of Georgia Tech, Alvarado has solidified himself as the Pelicans' top backup point guard over the last three seasons and will likely maintain that role next season. Last season, Alvarado averaged 7.1 points, 2.3 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.1 steals in 18.4 minutes per game across 56 regular-season appearances.
Naji Marshall : Leads bench with 16 points
Marshall recorded 16 points (5-9 FG, 4-7 3Pt, 2-2 FT), three rebounds, one assist and one block across 22 minutes during Monday's 97-89 loss to the Thunder in Game 4 of the first round of the Western Conference playoffs. Marshall turned in an efficient shooting performance, scoring nine of his 16 points from beyond the arc. He had an inconsistent series at best, as he was held to five points in two of his team's four matchups on the way to being swept.
CJ McCollum : Paces scoring effort
McCollum amassed 20 points (9-16 FG, 2-7 3Pt), six rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal in 37 minutes during Monday's 97-89 loss to Oklahoma City in Game 4 of the first round of the Western Conference playoffs. McCollum didn't have his best shooting night from beyond the arc, but he still led the Pelicans with 20 points and also managed to stuff the stat sheet. The 32-year-old averaged 17.8 points, 4.8 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 1.5 steals in the opening-round series loss (four games).
Jonas Valanciunas : Strong effort in loss
Valanciunas supplied 19 points (6-15 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 7-8 FT), 13 rebounds, one assist and one steal across 26 minutes during Monday's 97-89 loss to Oklahoma City in Game 4 of the first round of the Western Conference playoffs. Valanciunas finished second on his team in scoring and put together a valiant effort on the glass, marking his second double-double of the first round. However, his production wasn't enough to avoid a series sweep as the Thunder were simply too much to handle without the help of Zion Williamson (hamstring).
