Preview: SIAC Men’s Basketball Championship Quarterfinals vs. Benedict

SAVANNAH, Ga. __ Tuskegee men's basketball opens its postseason run in the 2024 SIAC Basketball Championship, presented by Cricket on Friday evening versus Benedict. Tip-off for the quarterfinal matchup is set for 5 p.m. ET inside of Tiger Arena.

Tuskegee plays its first game of the Championship tournament on Friday, after receiving a double bye as the second-place team in the SIAC West.
 
The Golden Tigers are led by the trio of All-SIAC forward Martez Jones along with guard D'Anthony Pennington and forward Kusamae Draper. Jones, the second-team All-SIAC selection, averaged a double-double and led the team with 13.7 points and 10.2 rebounds per game this season. The Tuskegee native has scored in double figures in 21 of 27 games on the year. 
 
Meanwhile, Draper and Pennington also averaged double figures in points this season, both at 13.6 points per game respectively, while Draper added 6.0 rebounds and Pennington added a team-high 3.5 assists per contest. Kevin Sesberry is just under the double figure mark with a 9.8 scoring average.

Benedict comes into the matchup after defeating LeMoyne-Owen, 90-76, in the opening round of play on Wednesday afternoon.
 
The Tigers enters Friday at 22-6 overall and a two-game win streak after defeating Clark Atlanta to end the regular season and the win over LeMoyne-Owen in the opening round. The team has the top offense in the SIAC, averaging 85.0 points a game and has top scoring differential at 10.9 points.
 
Benedict has displayed a balanced attack offensively, with four scorers averaging at least ten points per contest. All-SIAC performers Tim Moore and Asanti Price lead the charge, averaging 15.3 and 14.1 points respectively, while Malachi McCoy and Marshaun West average 11.2 and 10.8 points per game.

BC won the only meeting between the two programs this season, taking a 96-73 win in Tuskegee on January 6.
