Jones Named Second Team All-SIAC

The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference released its post season honors and All-SIAC teams on Friday, as Martez Jones earned second team honors.

This is Jones' first postseason honor, which he earned after averaging 13.7 points and a team-high 10.2 rebounds per game during the 2023-24 regular season. The Tuskegee native also recorded a league-leading 12 double-doubles, blocked out 128 assists, came away with 23 steals, and blocked 15 shots in leading TU to a 13-14 overall record and 12-8 mark within the SIAC, that includes an 11-4 record since January 4 and leading the conference in rebounding for anyone playing over 15 games.

Jones' .595 field goal percentage (125-for-210) was one of the top marks in the league, while his 10.2 rebounds per game ranked her second among all SIAC players on the season. The forward has played in 77 games since joining the Golden Tigers, and this season saw increases in production in close to every category. He went from averaging 8.2 points and nearly 6.0 rebounds over his first two seasons to 13.7 and 10.2 as a junior.

Jones hit double digits in scoring 21 times, including four 20-plus scoring outings, and recorded a career-high 26 points along with 13 rebounds on Jan. 13 vs. Kentucky State. He finished the year with seven games with 13 or more rebounds and garnered her SIAC Player of the Week honors once.

The Golden Tigers next game is set for Friday, March 8, at 5 p.m. ET in the quarterfinal round of the SIAC Men's Basketball Championship, presented by Cricket. They will face the winner between Benedict and the victor of a matchup between LeMoyne-Owen and Fort Valley State who play on Monday at 2:30 p.m. ET.
