Men’s Basketball Defeats LeMoyne-Owen for Third Straight Win

MEMPHIS, Tenn. __ Junior D'Anthony Pennington scored a game-high 19 points along with four assists and grabbed three rebounds as the Preseason SIAC All-Conference guard led Tuskegee (6-11, 5-6 SIAC) to its third straight win, after a 64-58 victory over LeMoyne-Owen (6-11, 4-6 SIAC) on Saturday afternoon inside Bruce-Johnson Hall.

The first half of the game was a battle of runs, as LeMoyne-Owen jumped out to an early 9-4 lead in the first four minutes, followed by a 6-0 run in response from Tuskegee to take is second lead of the game at 10-9.
 
The two teams battled back-and-forth over the next few minutes, exchanging leads multiple times before another short burst from Tuskegee, this time a 9-0 run to go up 23-15 with 3:34 to go. From there, the Golden Tigers controlled the remainder of the half, leading 29-23 at the break.

Despite pushing the lead to eight points a minute into action, Tuskegee saw the momentum change to start the second half, as LeMoyne-Owen tied the game with an 8-2 run at 35-35.

Minutes later with the game tied 40-40, the Magicians went on an 8-4 run over a two-minute span, however Tuskegee battled back to tie the game for the seventh time at 48-48 with just over eight minutes to play.
 
Following a forced turnover, the Golden Tigers took the lead once more, scoring six straight points, before finding the game tied for the final time at 54-54 after a 6-0 run from the Magicians.
 
From that point on, it was all Tuskegee. Kris Mickens proceeded to score five straight points to help the Golden Tigers close out the game with the six-point road victory.

LeMoyne-Owen was only able to manage four points in the final, all coming from the free throw line.

Tuskegee ended the game shooting 43.4 percent from the field (23-of-53) and made just 1-of-11 from long range in the contest. The team hit 17-of-25 from the free throw line and outscored the home team in points in the paint 42-18, second chance points 16-10, and bench points 28-22 in the first true road win of the year.
 
The Golden Tigers' other primary scorers, Martez Jones and Kusamae Draper added 14 and 11 points respectively, as Jones recorded his league-best seventh double-double of the season after grabbing ten rebounds. Sophomore Dylan Cambridge grabbed a career-tying nine rebounds on the day, while Julian Watson added six points and three rebounds in the win.
 
LeMoyne-Owen's Tariq Shepherd led his team offensively with 11 points, the only Magician in double figures. The home team shot 36.4 percent from the field (20-of-55) but made only six three-pointers and committed 15 turnovers.
