Jones and Pennington lead Tuskegee over Kentucky State 72-66

TUSKEGEE, Ala.  __ Martez Jones scored 26 points, while D'Anthony Pennington added 15 and Tuskegee pulled away late to beat Kentucky State 72-66 in the conference matchup on Saturday afternoon.

A free throw from Jones with 8:27 left gave Tuskegee the lead for good at 57-55, in a game where the team led for over 37 minutes of play. The forward scored ten points over the last eight minutes of play that stretched the Golden Tiger lead and secured the win.

Jones and Pennington were a combined 16-of-25 from the field and a combined 10-18 from the free throw line in the ball game, while Jones also finished with a game-high 13 rebounds for his sixth double-double of the year.

Kusamae Draper also added 16 points, eight rebounds and three assists for Tuskegee (4-11, 3-6 SIAC), which shot 51% (25-of-49) for the game.

Ogien Ayo scored 14 points on just 3-of-6 shooting and grabbed ten rebounds to lead Kentucky State (4-9, 1-8 SIAC). Aziel Blackwell added 13 points, followed by Lavar Miller and Joseph Owens each with 11.

Pennington scored all 15 of his points in the first half to help Tuskegee take an early lead, helped by a 12-0 run to start the game. The guard hit all three of his long-range attempts, as TU shot 80 percent (4-of-5) from three in the half.

The Golden Tigers remained hot throughout the contest, and outscored the Thorobreds 36-22 in the paint, in the home win.
