NHL 23: Broken Sternums and Broken Dreams

The part from Maurice's interview about his dad is going to be in commercials for a long time.

He is from Sault Ste Marie like Kyle Dubas, former GM of the leafs and current president of the Pittsburg Penguins.

I was just in the Sault a few weeks ago and they are really struggling. Their YMCA just got shut down because they couldn’t pay their bills. You would think one of their big time NHL people could have stepped in a donated a couple of bucks to save one of the only athletic facilities they have left up there

McDavid devastated in this interview, understandably so.

It feels like the playoffs are a bit too long tbh. I remember being at Mother's Day talking about the playoffs with my brother in law. It was already the 2nd round. That feels like it was forever ago. So yeah, they put in all that work over more than 2 months and lose by 1 goal and the very end. That has to be pretty brutal.

Might have been worse to get swept in 4 straight tho

Probably. As a fan, I'm happier with a game 7 loss than I would've been with a game 4 loss.

If you get swept in the finals it almost negates what you did up until that point. Like you weren't really the 2nd best team. At least in the eyes of the public.

You going to get that pic of Bobby Loo framed?

i met trevor linden once at a winery. he personalized an autograph for me on a picture of him and i have that framed.

my mom seen wayne gretzky at a restaurant once in calgary and got his autograph on a newspaper. i think it was during a 1984 canada cup tournament and i guess the whole team were coming in there to eat or something.

You always would rather lose in 7 than get swept as a fan. But losing game 7 stings far worse.

What do you think is the salary of those 2 keepers of the cup?

It's very modest. Enough to be middle class but you're on the road constantly and everything is paid for and top class travel.

I believe there's 3 keepers of the cup now

It wasn't too bad until the final. The two days between games when there was a change in location really dragged it out. That coupled with 4 days between the conference finals to Stanley Cup finals really dragged it out.

The season needs to be recalibrated back to when the Cup was presented around the end of the first week of June

Bring back the Smythe, Norris, Adams and Patrick divisions with 1st round best of 5

Congrats to the Florida Panthers! Well deserved! Mad respects to the Edmonton Oilers for making it a competitive series and giving their all in game 7. Just couldn't get it pass Bobrovsky. He was dynamite.

Should be a fun off season.

I didn't downplay his performance, at all. I also didn't overstate it. He was nonexistent in the two most important games. One of which they won without him. There were a couple crucial games this year in the playoffs that Edmonton won in spite of McDavid. Florida couldn't even win a game when Bob was struggling. That speaks volumes. He is the clear cut, not even close, MVP and he was robbed because the NHL wanted to give their darling some sort of participation trophy. Disgraced the Conn Smythe in process.
Sounds like you are still trying to pump Mackinnon's tires by downplaying McDavid.

Sorry mate. Mcdavid is still better lol

Talent wise, MacKinnon is always gonna be the Lemieux to Connor's Gretzky. But when they talk legacy, this series is gonna be a hot topic if McDavid never gets a Ring, or even if he only gets one. Full credit to the Panthers for tightening back up and closing things out though. If the Oilers had managed to convert some of their chances in the first 3 games this is a much different series.
