This article is practically a word for word copy of the History page on the P&G site. Revise please.
"Old Spice is now the No. 1 antiperspirant/deodorant stick and body wash brand in the United States." Is there any way to prove this claim?
I just watched the film "Red Dragon" and I believe Hannibal Lecter said: "Something a child would select" not ""Something a child would wear". I interpret that as not as a joke but as a threat ("I know you have a son"). / Elinnea 19:46, 28 July 2007 (UTC)
creepy i wear old spice all the time. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 4.152.120.127 (talk) 19:52, 23 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
It appears the Grand Turk referred to was a privateer built in 1781 in Hanover, Massachusetts for Elias Hasket Derby of Salem, MA. [1] She was a brig of 300 tons. If this is correct the reference to the original motif beginning during the "Colonial" period may stand as accurate by a matter of several months.
The Friendship originally linked to was an obscure and short-lived British transport ship that carried prisoners to Australia and was scuttled unceremoniously just four years after being launched when her crew caught scurvey off of Borneo. The relevant Friendship was doubtless a post-Colonial era 171-foot, 342-ton, three-masted East Indiaman built in Salem, Massachusetts 1797 [2] Wikiuser100 (talk) 08:16, 20 November 2009 (UTC)Reply
the advertising section is sadly deficient. old spice was noted for its ads early in its history. what about 'old spice means quality, said the captain to the bosun, look for the package with the ship that sails the ocean'? Toyokuni3 (talk) 00:26, 9 October 2017 (UTC)Reply
Above is stated: "This article is practically a word for word copy of the History page on the P&G site." How true and how sad. Not a word about old products. Not even a picture of the old White Glass shaving mug, and the appropriate refills, that were ousted (removed from the product line) about 1990. Being a life-long user of Old Spice shaving products, I miss this information. --Stein s (talk) 11:19, 1 April 2014 (UTC)Reply
- I agree. See section Sailing Ship logos above. I always wondered about those ships
- and I recall many of the names. Let us research this ship subject. ♫ Old Spice means quality said the Cap'n to the Bo's'un.....so ask for the package with the ship that sailed the ocean ♫ Tjlynnjr (talk) 01:20, 6 August 2014 (UTC) .Reply
See history.
The add campaign slogan was "Believe in your smellf". Not "smelf" or "smell". Examples abound, Google it.

The details of the advertising campaigns on separate pages seems excessive, so I suggest merging at least Make a Smellmitment into the advertising section of Old Spice. This was also prompted by an earlier merge discussion elsewhere: Talk:Make a Smellmitment#Proposed merge with The Man Your Man Could Smell Like. Klbrain (talk) 23:09, 21 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
- Over the years there has been some pretty obvious WP:COI editing here. The average person is not interested in writing about advertising campaigns for a product, but you can guess who might be interested in doing this. Various editors have tried to keep this article on topic by writing about the product itself rather than getting bogged down in the details of the various advertising campaigns, the staff involved etc. This should not be given excessive prominence in the article.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 06:21, 22 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
- Is that an oppose? NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 09:37, 22 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
- To some extent yes. There are WP:DUE and WP:TOPIC issues here, because the article is about Old Spice, not the advertising campaigns of Old Spice. The article has already experienced problems with excessive details about the campaigns.--14:08, 22 December 2017 (UTC)
- Closing, given the absence of support. Klbrain (talk) 12:34, 3 February 2019 (UTC)Reply
There should be a mention of the famous Old Spice whistling theme song, when it debuted, who wrote it and what its traditional name is 2607:FEA8:10E0:1C00:1D52:C8CA:E290:418A (talk) 18:26, 17 February 2020 (UTC)Reply
- There is some sourcing here. It says "Old Spice has been using some variation of a six-note whistle in its advertising campaigns since 1953. For example, this commercial from 1972 features a whistle that sounds like a refrain from the folk song, “Scotland the Brave.” My Scottish ancestry recognized this straight away, but it isn't the entire tune. Also, I wonder if the whistling tune has ever been used in Britain, or only in America. Ask a British person to name the music from an Old Spice commercial, and they are likely to name "O Fortuna" which accompanied the man on a surf board back in the 1970s.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 19:49, 17 February 2020 (UTC)Reply
- ~ Here is a little help for you two also ~ I agree there should be a at least a mention of The Old Spice Sea Shanty ~ Toots Thielemans, ~ "that's his whistling in the commercial jingle for Old Spice toiletries"[1] Nice to meet both of you all ~mitch~ (talk) 20:58, 17 February 2020 (UTC)Reply
So I just added Foxcrest and Lionpride to the Wild Collection list and I'm not sure if that list is supposed to contain all of the wild collection or just the current members of it.
