Early life and education

edit

Chloé was born in Paris, France. At age 11 her family moved to Toulouse, France when her father took a job with Airbus. She developed an interest in the classical guitar and her parents enrolled her in classical-guitar lessons. After high school, she signed up for a two-year audio-engineering program and learned how to use FL Studio, posting tracks she created via SoundCloud.[4]

Career

edit

CloZee's musical journey began with an exploration of glitch hop and UK bass, where she honed her skills and developed a distinctive style characterized by intricate melodies, complex rhythms, and a fusion of global sounds. While the majority of her tunes do not use lyrics, CloZee loves to use processed human voice samples as instruments in her music. CloZee used to describe her music as "world bass," but she found that people often had misconceptions based on the term. So, she no longer classifies her music as such and invites people to listen to and come up with a name for it themselves. [5]

Her music production for Ocke Studios films and self-released work on Soundcloud and caught the attention of electronic music enthusiasts and record labels, alike—especially Gravitas Records. In 2012 she released her first official EP on Gravitas, Dubious, as well as the Poetic Assassin EP the following year. In 2012, she also self-released two albums in which she showcased her take on other people's music, Remixes and Guitar Covers. These early projects showcased CloZee's penchant for glitch and bass music, as well as her talents with the classical guitar and musical arrangement.

In 2018, CloZee released her debut album of original music, Evasion, which marked a significant milestone in her career. In French, the word evasion means an escape from reality, when used in the context of music. CloZee's goal with this album was to transport the listener to an alternate and welcoming reality [6]. The album showcased her ability to seamlessly blend diverse musical elements, creating a sonic tapestry that captivated listeners worldwide. Tracks likeSpiral[7] and Red Forest exemplify the fusion of electronic beats with world music influences, establishing CloZee as a mainstay in the experimental bass and world bass scenes.

CloZee continued to evolve her sound with the release of her second album, Neon Jungle, in 2020. The album further solidified her reputation as an innovative artist, exploring new sonic landscapes and pushing the boundaries of electronic music. Neon Jungle demonstrated CloZee's growth as a producer, with tracks like Us and Winter Is Coming showcasing her mastery of intricate soundscapes, and four collaborative tracks showing her versatility as an electronic music artist.

In 2023, CloZee released her latest album, Microworlds, a testament to her ongoing artistic evolution. The album is about all the many subworlds that we inhabit. It delves into quieter territories with tracks like Courage and Contemplation while maintaining the signature elements that define CloZee's music with dancefloor-rattling tunes like Antares and Visions. This album truly showcases her ability to create immersive and otherworldly sonic experiences.

CloZinger project and Odyzey Records

edit

CloZee's collaborative project with fellow French artist Scarfinger, known as CloZinger, further highlights her versatility. The duo explores a fusion of glitchy beats and world music, creating a unique synergy that has resonated with fans. CloZinger's releases, such as Ovation and Forest Echo showcase a seamless blend of both artists' creative energies.

In addition to her solo endeavors, CloZee founded Odyzey Records in 2020, a record label dedicated to promoting boundary-pushing electronic music. The label serves as a platform for emerging artists to showcase their talent and contribute to the ever-evolving landscape of experimental bass music.
