Microscopy images[edit]

I was editing the biochar article and I noticed you've been adding a lot of microscopy images of different things, which are tagged as your own work. It looks like you've been trying to add the author names in the author field, but I think you've been doing it wrong. On Wikipedia you can generally only upload images if the authors release them under CC licenses (free use) or to public domain, so if that's not true the images need to get taken down (see the image use policy). To upload images from another source, you have to click "made by someone else" on the upload wizard. Mrfoogles (talk) 17:09, 25 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

If it is your own work, it would be helpful if you would add more description to the biochar image: it's hard to tell what it's looking at. Mrfoogles (talk) 17:11, 25 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes these are all my own original work, and were taken with help from students in my course. I can remove the additional authors if necessary, in the future I presumably will need to have students create their own commons account and upload themselves...just a lot more work. I can add more description for the biochar. An updated image will be added later that has a lower magnification and shows nice wood cellular structure- when it is determined whether it is needed for scientific publication or not. 206.85.214.81 (talk) 17:35, 25 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, that makes more sense. Thanks for responding, it's cool that you're putting these images online. I'm not really an expert in whatever the policies are, but I think there's definitely no problem with putting the additional authors in: I just saw the formatting was off and thought you might have typed it in the wrong box. For the student accounts, I think (given you're having them sign something, which I think you need to) you can also click "This is someone else's work and is free to share" on the page, and have your students release it under one of those licenses, if you want to avoid having to make them accounts. That seems to be the intended method: I think it'd fixes the formatting issue. I'd definitely appreciate it if you could elaborate more on the biochar. I think you should probably put some of this on your user page (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:G_Lens_Microscopist), that'd clarify things. Good luck with the microscopes.
