Why can't I edit some particular pages?
Some pages that have been vandalized repeatedly are semi-protected, meaning that editing by new or unregistered users is prohibited through technical measures. If you have an account that is four days old and has made at least 10 edits, then you can bypass semi-protection and edit any semi-protected page. Some pages, such as highly visible templates, are fully-protected, meaning that only administrators can edit them. If this is not the case, you may have been blocked or your IP address caught up in a range block.
Where can I experiment with editing Wikipedia?
How do I create an article?
See how to create your first article, then use the Article Wizard to create one, and add references to the article as explained below.
How do I create citations?
  1. Do a search on Google or your preferred search engine for the subject of the Wikipedia article that you want to create a citation for.
  2. Find a website that supports the claim you are trying to find a citation for.
  3. In a new tab/window, go to the citation generator, click on the 'An arbitrary website' bubble, and fill out as many fields as you can about the website you just found.
  4. Click the 'Get reference wiki text' button.
  5. Highlight, and then copy (Ctrl+C or Apple+C), the resulting text (it will be something like <ref> {{cite web | .... }}</ref>, copy the whole thing).
  6. In the Wikipedia article, after the claim you found a citation for, paste (Ctrl+V or Apple+V) the text you copied.
  7. If the article does not have a References or Notes section (or the like), add this to the bottom of the page, but above the External Links section and the categories:
==References==
{{Reflist}}
What is a WikiProject, and how do I join one?
A WikiProject is a group of editors that are interested in improving the coverage of certain topics on Wikipedia. (See this page for a complete list of WikiProjects.) If you would like to help, add your username to the list that is on the bottom of the WikiProject page.

Introduction to contentious topics[edit]

You have recently edited a page related to articles about living or recently deceased people, and edits relating to the subject (living or recently deceased) of such biographical articles, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

  • adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
  • comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
  • follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
  • comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
  • refrain from gaming the system.

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

Naseem Hamed[edit]

Greetings. Please read MOS:ETHNICITY (and MOS:IDENTITY) for why he should not be listed as British-Yemeni. He has Yemeni ancestry (described in Early life), but born in Sheffield and is a British national. We don't list Anthony Joshua as British-Nigerian or Tyson Fury as Irish for the same reason. Mac Dreamstate (talk) 19:07, 13 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The way to go about this is to continue the existing discussion at the talk page; not keep adding content until the issue is resolved, per WP:BRB. So you found one source, but WP:WEIGHT still has to be considered, especially if the other sources labelling him as British-Yemeni are Arab-centric. Disambiguation link notification for March 14[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Sucker punch, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Victoria. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, --DPL bot (talk) 06:03, 14 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

March 2024[edit]

Information icon Hi ActionHeroesAreReal! I noticed that you have reverted to restore your preferred version of Naseem Hamed several times. The impulse to undo an edit you disagree with is understandable, but I wanted to make sure you're aware that the edit warring policy disallows repeated reversions even if they are justifiable.

All editors are expected to discuss content disputes on article talk pages to try to reach consensus. If you are unable to agree at Talk:Naseem Hamed, please use one of the dispute resolution options to seek input from others. Using this approach instead of reverting can help you avoid getting drawn into an edit war. Adding warning for WP:EWN formalities. Mac Dreamstate (talk) 20:43, 14 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop adding unreferenced or poorly referenced biographical content, especially if controversial, to articles or any other Wikipedia page, as you did at Salma Hayek. Content of this nature could be regarded as defamatory and is in violation of Wikipedia policy. If you continue, you may be blocked from editing Wikipedia. - FlightTime (open channel) 19:49, 15 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi ActionHeroesAreReal, Good day. We dont put ethnicity, bloodline, heritage, which country's flag he carries, what languages does he speak of certain nation, which countries where his/her parents were born, representation of other countries outside where he is born, have a citizenship in the lead section in Wikipedia or the country he was resides when he was notable - see MOS:NATIONALITY. Pls do not add back the info again. Cassiopeia talk 02:37, 3 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Cassiopeia, thanks for informing me about that. Representation should also be removed from Khamzat Chimmaev’s article too. In the lead it says, “…who competes in the Middleweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) representing the UAE and formerly Sweden.” ActionHeroesAreReal (talk) 03:16, 3 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
OK. See your edit on the said page. Cassiopeia talk 03:43, 3 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Bard Hari (ethnicity)[edit]

Provide a reliable source which states his parents are of whatever ethnicity mentioned per reference. If you won’t provide a source, your edits will keep on being removed as they are of no use to the article (Badr Hari). Wikipedia as a site is based on sourced information. As long as there is no source, your edits will keep being removed even if it was true. Check Wikipedia:But it's true! for a better understanding. Articlread (talk) 01:19, 25 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

April 2024[edit]

Information icon Hello, I'm Cassiopeia. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, Dustin Poirier, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. You can have a look at referencing for beginners. If you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Cassiopeia talk 09:31, 25 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Please do not add or change content, as you did at Badr Hari, without citing a reliable source. Please review the guidelines at Wikipedia:Citing sources and take this opportunity to add references to the article. Thank you. Cassiopeia talk 09:32, 25 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

You are being overly emotional and are letting your feelings get in the way. Being disrespectful will get you blocked on Wikipedia. This is a site which works by adding reliable sources to the information you are putting out. Reliable sources and not just any source as you did on this article (Vidyut Jammwal). Not any martial art practitioner is a martial artist, martial artist is mainly put for real fighters who fight and have a record to show for it and not an actor who plays roles of a fighter in a film. Don't be stupid and attack users on Wikipedia when you do not have a clue about what you are doing. @Cassiopeia do you mind to intervene and help out with this situation. You are far more experienced as a user. Articlread (talk) 14:13, 25 April 2024 (UT

Warning icon Please stop. If you continue to use disruptive, inappropriate or hard-to-read formatting, as you did at Jet Li, you may be blocked from editing. There is a Wikipedia Manual of Style, and edits should not deliberately go against it without special reason. Thedarkknightli (talk) 00:32, 29 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Jet Li. This means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be although other editors disagree. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus, rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Points to note:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made;
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes and work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing. Thedarkknightli (talk) 13:00, 29 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
