Erik Sumo Band is a hungarian indie-pop-group from Budapest. The band was formed by Ambrus Tövisházi and ranges between Pop, Dub and Jazz always combined with hungarian Folkelements.

History[edit]

What started out as a solo-project of the singer/songwriter Amburs Tövisházi (fromer member of Amorf Ördögök and Crate Soul Brothers) under the name Erik Sumo in 2002 has 2005 turned in to the Erik Sumo Band, a seven-strong project. The official name of the group is "Erik Sumo Band feat. Erzsi Kiss", Erzsi Kiss being a permanent guest singer. In 2005 the Erik Sumo Band released their first album "My Rocky Mountain" in Hungary, a few months later it was released in Germany, too. 2009 they released their second album "The Trouble Soup" in Hungary. In Germany "The Trouble Soup" was released in February 2010. Destinctive features of the Erik Sumo Band are harmonies of three voices and vocals in an almost french-like phantasy language. The single "Disco in My Head" reached the 4th place in the Hungarian State Radio Charts in 2009.
