Michael Thomas Bowers (born December 4, 1963 in a US Army Base in Asmara Ethiopia) is an published author, software engineer. pianist, and composer.

Biographical background[edit]

In 1981 Bowers graduated Valedictorian from High School in Elizabethton, Tennessee. In 1988 he graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor Degree in Music Composition from Brigham Young University. In 1991 he graduated with a Masters Degree of Music Theory from Florida State University. In 1993 he finished the Ph.D. program in music theory and received a dissertation fellowship for his work on applying Schenkerian analysis to 20th century music.

In 1993 Bowers career changed directions and he began pursuing a career in computer programming. From 1993-1995 Bowers worked Mainline Information Systems as a software developer. From 1995 to 1996 he worked at Circle C Equipment as a robotics engineer. From 1996-1999 he worked at Mitsubishi Silicon America as a software architect. From 1999-2000 he worked at Systems Management Specialists as a systems engineer. From 2000-2004 he worked at Freightliner Trucks as a software developer. From 2004-2006 he worked at Circle C Equipment as a general manager. From 2006-2007 Michael Bowers wrote Pro CSS and HTML Design Patterns, which was published by Apress in April 2007. In 2007 he began working for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as a software architect specializing in database and XML technologies, such as the Oracle database and Mark Logic content server.

Bowers is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. From 1983-1984 he served as a full-time missionary (LDS Church) in the Idaho Boise Mission under the leadership of John K. Carmack.

Bowers is an Eagle Scout of the Boy Scouts of America and belongs to the Order of the Arrow.
